a new critter comic! this month you get a comic about how i've been thinking of making a game. my partner and i have been wanting to make a game for a while, but it was only just a couple days ago where i was struck with an idea i think could be manageable. the plan would be me writing/plotting it while they handle the technical side of things, whereas for our twine game, they also come up with the concept and a bulk of the narrative text

i dont wanna say too much about the idea yet, but short pitch: it'll be a little horror-themed text adventure(?) about raising a strange pet. IN FUTURE, ideally, there will be multiple 'routes' and at least 3 kinds of endings you can get. FOR NOW, im going to see about writing ONE route with ONE ending. i had the idea that the final game will contain five 'chapters', so for now i'll focus on writing just two or three.

something i wanted to mention, which is a phrase i originally heard applied to game design (via Extra Credits, if yall have ever seen that youtube series) but always kept in mind as a creator: Fail Faster. it's got a lot to do with staying aware of yourself and your limits, and learning to edit and trim as needed, even when youve got a lot of ideas or feel super attached to some of them when they aren't working. it's been in my mind for a long, long time, but i feel like ive been trying to live by this more and more as i get older

so, whenever i caught myself starting to theorize game mechanics and plotlines i knew would be a tremendous amount of work to dive into right away, i'd think in my head 'fail faster!!!' and confront the fact what i was imagining is just unrealistic for where we're at now. i was already failing, because i was thinking too big and undermining my ability to get a small, rough, but COMPLETE thing done in a more realistic way vs endlessly daydreaming of a complex, polished game experience

in future, i may make more comics about the process as we go! maybe not critter comics strictly, since i have other, dumber ideas i've already got stacking up in the backburner. we'll see! if any interesting progress is made with game stuff though, i'll keep yall posted~
