CHAPTER THREE - So Happy!

Kyle's overdue sense of freedom lasted all of five seconds before he realized how hard it'd become to reach behind him to undo his bra. It lessened even more when he got a painful reminder in the form of a kick to the ribs. The kick reminded him that though he'd freed himself from reporting to work for the time being, Kyle still had a rather important job he was responsible for completing for Steven and Chad…

He shimmied his underwear down his thickened thighs and then stepped carefully out of them since bending more than just a little was now all but impossible. Next came the belly band, which Kyle had to twist and yank to get un-suctioned from his pregnancy and then, he was finally free, naked as the day he was born, which he found more than a bit ironic given how heavily with children he presently was.

"Ahh…" he sighed, closing his eyes as he just stood there and let the air flow over his bare body.

Kyle's sense of touch had become incredibly heightened since his skin was so stretched, leaving each and every nerve ending susceptible to both pleasure and pain. He lotioned himself up twice a day in a long and tedious but vain attempt to keep stretch marks and skin damage at bay, but as much rubbing as he (and sometimes Wes) did, it hadn't worked.  His entire torso was covered with marks from the sides of his engorged breasts to the rounded sides of his bulging middle. Kyle's only hope was that since he was still (relatively) young and had been in very good shape, his body would recover after giving birth, which was a whole other matter he still had to deal with.

When he found out he was carrying twins, the junior lawyer felt like throwing up. When he realized he still had to tell Steven and Chad since they never accompanied him to any of his appointments (too busy and not even really interested,) he almost really did. Kyle doubted they'd take the "exciting news" as such as he believed they'd decided to start their family just to "fit in" and because everyone else was.

He was very surprised how excited they ended up being when he told them they were going to have two babies over yet another working lunch. But then the more Kyle thought about it, the more he realized that in having twins, Chad and Steven were "one-upping" most others as they so loved to do.

Recalling the encounter reminded Kyle it was just about time for lunch. At least this time, he wouldn't have to work through it… It'd only been a few hours since he'd wolfed down his massive breakfast, but that plethora of calories he'd consumed were almost all used as his body worked overtime to finish growing and developing Chad and Steven's twins to their full potential.

Without the belly band supporting it, their double stuffed surrogate cupped his swell to keep it from becoming too pendulous as he lumbered into he and Wes' walk-in closet. When they'd moved in together two years back, the master closet had seemed huge to them seeing as it was only slightly smaller than Wes' old bedroom. Now though, filled with their clothes (especially the massive ones Kyle presently wore) it seemed small, or maybe it was just him?

As he waddled into the closet, he noticed the sides of his belly were just inches from touching the clothing hanging to either side of him. Before getting pregnant and before he'd started showing, he and Wes had been able to stand in the closet together and pick out their outfits for the day at the same time. It'd been a tight fit, but it had been possible… The last time they'd tried to do so a couple months back, Kyle's belly had grown to be too big and he'd done a lot more growing since.

The left side of the closet belonged to him and for what he was looking for, he didn't have to go too deep. Kyle eyed the folded stack of belly bands he'd accumulated and debated putting another one on, but didn't feel like spending the time or energy doing so, so he bypassed those still somewhat supportive garments and went instead to pick out a fresh pair of underwear. One thing he couldn't skip out on now though, was a bra…

Most of the time, Kyle didn't wear one when he was home, because only Wes was around to see his enlarged nipples really protruding and/or the wet spots that frequently formed through his shirts. Presently in need of support and coverage, but seeking comfort, Kyle chose a sports bra he usually wore on the weekends or when he ran errands. Since it didn't have a clasp, it was much easier to get on, only requiring him to raise his arms and slip it down over, then left his heavy chest one breast at a time, into its respective cup.

As he next looked for a t-shirt to wear, he quickly realized how tight the bra he'd just put on had become. It wasn't uncomfortable or unbearably so yet, but probably would be before he went to the hospital… Still, he promised himself then and there that he wouldn't spend another dime on paternity clothes, even if it meant having to go naked. Just another example of enough having become enough.

"No more," he firmly declared as he thumbed through his casual shirt collection, which like the rest of his wardrobe that still fit (or came as close to as possible,) was pretty limited.

He picked a white and navy blue ring-necked baseball shirt with three-quarter sleeves, a top he'd been happy to find at the paternity store because that's how he liked to casually dress prior to becoming a baby incubator. As he slipped the shirt on and then pulled it down over his mass, Kyle had to chuckle because obviously, he wasn't about to go play baseball… Torso covered, he moved onto pants.

He would've preferred jeans but the biggest pair he had stopped reaching all the way around his bloated waist the previous week. As such, he was left with a small selection of shorts and track pants to choose from. Kyle chose a gray pair of the latter, that had a lot of stretch in them and were soft enough to not bother his aching skin too much as he pulled the waistband up and tucked it under his belly after having expertly worked his underwear on one carefully raised leg at a time.

By the time it came to pick shoes, Kyle had run out of both fuck's and options. He only had two pairs of casual footwear that still fit his bloated feet, one being a pair of Nike slides, the other a pair of Crocs. Though he considered Crocs to be an absolute anti-fashion statement, Kyle still slid his feet into his and sighed with relief as their ugly rubberiness cushioned and coddled his taxed lower extremities.

On the way out of the closet, he grabbed a baseball cap from his alma mater and popped it on, messing up his still perfectly done coif in the process, but not caring. Kyle pulled the brim far down his forehead, barely leaving enough room for the aviators he still planned on adding to his ensemble, but that was the point. Obviously, there was no hiding his condition or size, but at least the hat and glasses allowed him to waddle through the streets with his vision diminished enough to not have to see or notice each and every one of the many stares now constantly directed his way.

Kyle grabbed his phone, keys, wallet and glasses and headed out. When he got down to the main floor of his building and exited the elevator, he dialed Wes, anxious to hear his boyfriend's voice as the phone rang.

"Hey, babe. How's court going? On a break?"

"I guess you could call it that," Kyle replied, not entirely lying. "What're you doing?"

"Trying to figure out what I'm going to do for lunch. I think I'm gonna go to the kabob place again, even though I've already been there twice this week."

"We can work with that. I'll meet you there."

"Babe… It's like halfway across town from court," Wes pointed out. "How long is this recess?"

"Long enough," Kyle replied as he waddled to the edge of the sidewalk to hail a cab, hoping he'd spot a minivan. "See you there in ten?"

"Ten? It'll take you at least twenty to get there from…"

"I'll be there in ten," he cut his boyfriend off. "If you beat me there, order me a chicken with rice, double meat, double rice," he requested.

Wes chuckled. "Alright… So two meals?"

"No. I don't want double side salad."

"Got it. See you soon."

Ten minutes turned into twenty after all because Kyle waited till he found a minivan that wouldn't kill his back getting in and out of. Five minutes out from his lunch date, he got a text from Wes saying he'd arrived, had ordered for them and found a table out front.

"Perfect…" Kyle quietly said to himself, resting his arms atop his belly as he sent back a smiley face. "He won't be able to get too mad at me if we're sitting out on the busy sidewalk…"

The cab pulled over half a block from the kabob place, leaving Kyle to make the rest of the trip on foot. Thankfully, Wes was sitting with his back to him, giving him a few more moments before he had to share the exciting but worrisome news of what had happened that morning following breakfast. Wes always liked it when on the rare occasion, they were able to meet up for lunch, so Kyle expected to see a smile once his presence was known, but no… Instead, his boyfriend met him with a frown as he took in his casual wear.

"Babe..?" He asked as he stood and came around to Kyle's side of the table to pull his chair out for him.

"Hi!" Kyle smiled as he leaned to the side to plant a big kiss on Wes' closest cheek. "How're you?"

"I'm… fine. How are you?" Wes asked skeptically as he returned to his side of the table.

"I'm… good. You're not gonna believe what I did."

"Um, I think I will…" he chuckled.

"I really let Steven and Chad have it!" Kyle said, leaning forward over his belly as much as he could. "I finally told them how I felt, and that I wouldn't be coming back till after I have the babies."

"How'd that go?" Wes asked, still sounding skeptical.

"Not so well…" his boyfriend admitted with a frown. "I mean, I don't think so?" He shrugged before filling him in on the rest of the showdown.

Before Wes could reply, their food was brought out. Kyle didn't mean to be rude, but he couldn't keep himself from digging in before Wes had even gotten his utensils out of his rolled napkin. The patent attorney watched silently for several moments as his boyfriend chowed down like the meal (almost two) in front of him was the last thing he'd ever eat, then shook his head and chuckled.

"What?" Kyle asked through his mouthful, cheeks bulging with rice and chicken.

"I just didn't think we'd be having this conversation today. Not yet, anyway…"

"Oh?"

"I thought we'd have it at dinner," he continued. "I was preparing myself to have to really lay into you, but you did it, babe!" He grinned. "I'm so happy!"

"You are?"

"Yes!" Wes nodded. "Those assholes had it coming! I hate how they treat you, and yes… I know they have one of the best firms in the city and it'll be awesome to have on your resumé that you worked there, but I hate that you do!"

"You've never told me that before…" Kyle shook his head.

"What? Yes I have!"

"I think I'd remember…"

"OK," Wes relented. "Maybe I said it in so many words, but here I am, saying it now, plain as can be: I hate that you work there for them."

"But the money…"

"Is no better than what you'd make at any other respected firm and babe… I make good money too," he felt compelled to point out.

"I know you do, but…"

"No buts," Wes shook his head. "I know how much you want the big job… You want that lead attorney title and someday, partner, and you'll get both someday, lead hopefully sooner than later, but Kyle…" he paused. "You know you're never going to make partner there… Chad and Steven would never share their power with anyone else, except for maybe their kids!" He nodded across the table at his boyfriend's swell containing the mentioned children.

"It'll be years before they're ready to take over, if either of them even want to!"

"I realize that, but those asshats will keep their positions till then."

"Jesus…" Kyle groaned as he set his fork down for the first time. "I'm a fucking idiot, aren't I?!"

Obviously, Wes loved Kyle, so he didn't take the easy bait. "You did what you did because you wanted to better yourself, your career and our futures, right?"

"Yeah…"

"So you're not a fucking idiot! And don't worry…" he shook his head. "You're going to get your promotion after this, believe me," he switched to nodding.

"Now you're sure? Why?"

"Because I'm going to be with you tomorrow when you talk to those douches. And guess what?"

"Hmm?"

"We're gonna do so on our terms, on our turf. If they wanna talk, which I know they do, they'll come to us, and you know what that means?"

"No…"

"Jeez, babe!" Wes laughed. "Aren't you the criminal law attorney?!"

"Yes!"

"It means they're going to be willing to listen and act accordingly! They know they have to do whatever you want them to from here on out. They're caught. They're gonna settle, so to speak."

"Why would they though?" Kyle asked. "I've only got the ball as long as I keep these two inside me!" He said as he looked down at his belly. "Then what?"

"That's what we finalize tomorrow," Wes replied with a wink as he popped a forkful of falafel into his mouth.

"And you're going to represent me during… mediation?"

"Sure am."

"Babe… I love you, and you're a good patent lawyer and all, but…"

"I've got this," Wes assured. "You've never seen me argue a case, but remember, I had to in law school and everyone said I should've gone into criminal law like you, not this easy patent shit."

"Easy, huh?" Kyle chuckled. "Then why do you always make it sound so complicated?"

"Because it is to most people, but you're datin' a smarty pants, babe!" Wes winked again.

"More like a smart ass!"

"You say that now, but just wait and see how smart you think I am after I mop the floor with Chad and Steven tomorrow!"

***

Kyle felt like a million bucks as he headed back home. A million stuffed, pregnant bucks, 'cause he'd totally overdone it at lunch, but hearing Wes say he was proud of him made it (almost) worth it. Despite feeling like he was on the verge of popping a seam or his dermis, Kyle asked the cabbie to change destinations and head to The Galleria instead.

The Galleria was the high-end mall where he went to shop and be fitted for his suits but on this day, Kyle wasn't looking for another expensive European piece, he was looking for an expensive piece of jewelry to put on his boyfriend's finger to make things official between them.

Neither he nor Wes were more "manly" than the other and were pretty much equals in their relationship. Wes was the more reasonable and balanced of the two, almost to a fault, which is where Kyle came in with his senses of fun, adventure and spontaneity. Even in bed they were equal, switching positions and duties regularly, though by then, it'd been a few months since the pregnant man had last topped… All in all, they were a perfect match and very happy together, but it had always been a question in Kyle's mind as to who would end up popping the question? Until recently…

After all he'd done and how his incredible boyfriend had stuck with him when probably anyone else would've left him, Kyle owed it not only to Wes, but himself to make the move. While he'd wondered which of them would be the one to ask, Kyle hadn't wondered in a long time whether or not he wanted to marry Wes… The answer was a resounding yes, and as he waddled towards his favorite jeweler, he already couldn't wait for the day when he could call his long-term boyfriend his husband.

It'd been awhile since he'd last visited the store. The last time he had, Kyle had been in one of his amazing suits and roughly a hundred pounds lighter, so it took the sales associates a few moments to recognize him. Once Kyle removed his sunglasses, the one closest to him, a male, smiled and approached.

"Mr. Worley!" He beamed. "It's so good to see you again!"

"Thank you. It's been awhile, I know."

"Indeed," the man nodded. "I believe the last time you were in, you were buying Mr. Cooper that incredible watch for his birthday."

"That's right," Kyle nodded. "He still wears it almost every day. It was the perfect choice."

"I'm so glad it worked out! Now what brings you in today?"

"Well…" Kyle sighed. "It's time to make another purchase for Mr. Cooper."

"Something to return to his favor?" The man asked with a chuckle.

"Oh, I'm still quite in his favor!" Kyle laughed back. "Amazingly, which is part of the reason I'm here, but the real reason is because I'd like to propose."

"Oh, how marvelous! Congratulations!"

"Thank you," he chuckled. "But I haven't even asked yet, so…"

"No, but he's bound to say yes, don't you think?" The associate shrugged. "After being presented with the perfect ring and, well…" he paused as he looked down at Kyle's exploded middle. "Other reasons too..?"

"Oh, right…" the pregnant man smirked. "I'm sure he'll say yes, but even still… I want to make sure the ring I pick is perfect like you said, represents both of us and how much I love and appreciate him."

"Are we thinking matching?"

"Possibly, but you know I tend to be a little more flashy," Kyle admitted.

“Absolutely nothing wrong with that, now why don’t you take a seat right here,” the associate said as he pulled out a nearby chair. “Get comfortable and give me a few minutes to select some piece I know you’re going to like!”

A few minutes later, Kyle was shown ring after ring, none of which seemed right till a platinum band came across the velvet mat in front of him, which was entirely encircled by a single row of diamonds. It wasn’t ostentatious but was a little flashy. Wes would love it.

This one!” Kyle grinned. “This is definitely the one for Wes. The one for me, though…

Would possibly look something like this?” The associate asked as he pulled another ring from his seemingly endless stash.

It was from the same collection as the one Kyle had selected for Wes but instead of a single row of diamonds, it had two. It totally bordered on being too much but at the same time, totally went with his big-time lawyer image. Still, Kyle felt bad for wanting it because he didn’t want Wes to think he thought of himself more than he did him.

Fortunately for all of them, the associate knew precisely what he was thinking. “You have to remember that like you said, you want your rings to not only represent each other, but the wearer too… This one is more your style.”

That was all it took to sell Kyle, who already knew in his heart, both rings were the right choice. After agreeing to the, and giving their corresponding sizes, he was given a flute of sparkling cider to sip on as the associate had the rings polished and boxed. Twenty minutes and several thousands of dollars later, Kyle was on his way out of the store with a small bag containing two of the most important things he’d ever had possession of, excluding of course Chad and Steven's twins.

After hailing another cab, the pregnant man made another detour before heading home. He had the cab drop him off a couple blocks from the apartment at he and Wes' favorite restaurant. Kelly's was nothing special, but they made excellent food ranging from burgers all the way to lobster tails and filet mignon. Holding his pricey bag tight, Kyle extracted himself from the cab and waddled into the restaurant, where he found himself warmly greeted by someone who strangely enough, had become a very good friend.

"Hey, Kyle!" Rose, the hostess beamed.

"Hey, honey!" He returned the grin in turn. "How's it hangin'?"

"Oh, you know…" Rose shrugged as she brought her hand up to her left breast and gave it a small shake. "A little to the left today."

"Same…" Kyle chuckled as he mimicked her motion.

"Wanna place an order to go?"

"Yeah, but…"

"Oh, there's a but?!" The younger girl wagged her brows.

"Uh huh," he nodded. "Can we sit?"

"Sure thing," she nodded back. "Come on," she waved as she led the way to the nearest table rather than booth, since Kyle no longer came close to fitting in one.

"Before you sit with me, and I do want you to sit with me," Kyle nodded. "Can you get Kelly?"

"Everything OK..?"

"Everything's fine, I just… I wanna talk to Kelly too, not that I don't trust you or anything, I just…"

"Oh, Babymaker!" Rose laughed, using the nickname she'd come up with for him. "I know you love and trust me. If you wanna see Kelly, all you gotta do is ask, which you did, so I'll be right back!" She winked.

As Kyle adjusted his now well-spaced rump in the wooden chair designed for someone with more reasonable proportions, he turned his attention to the bar. He smiled as he recalled all the times he and Wes had gotten drunk there and stumbled back home and couldn't wait till that could happen again. Kyle wasn't an alcoholic, but he sure did miss his drinks, his favorite being a Moscow Mule. He was mentally counting down the days till he could drink again (while pumping and dumping) when the proprietor of the establishment came out from the kitchen where he'd been busy.

"If your water breaks here, I'm gonna charge you with a cleaning bill so big you can't even imagine!" The large man bellowed at Kyle.

"You'd be lucky to have my water break in this dump!" The pregnant man playfully countered. "It'd finally bring some good press to the joint!"

"Yeah, yeah… Now didn't tell you to call before you came?" Kelly asked. "So I could be sure we'd have enough food for you?!"

"You did," Kyle nodded. "But something came up, so here I am."

"Oh?" Kelly asked, calming down some as he sat down across the table from Kyle, next to Rose, who'd joined them.

"Something very special actually. I'm going to propose to…"

Rose's squeal of delight that cut Kyle off was almost deafening, then she made even more noise clapping her hands like she'd never get the chance to again. She kept going till Kelly reached over and put his big mitt of a right hand over her two, gently clamping them shut.

"Congrats."

"Thanks, but save that till after Wes says yes…" Kyle rolled his eyes.

"And when's that gonna be?"

"Tonight."

"That's quick!"

"Not really," Kyle shook his head. "I mean, I did just get the rings," he said as he raised the bag he'd set on the chair next to him. "But I've known I've wanted to do this for a while… Some things changed and now suddenly seemed like the right time, so…"

"So why are you here?" Kelly asked.

"Because I need your help."

"Both of us?" Rose smiled.

"Both of you," Kyle confirmed. "If Kelly can spare you tonight?"

"Eh…" the big man shrugged. "I should be able to make do. So what're you thinkin'?"

Kyle broke it down. He told his two friends what he'd envisioned in his head while admitting to Kelly that he had no idea what kind of food would be best for such an important occasion.

Kelly laughed. "How can you almost always look so fancy but not know what kind of food to have when you propose?!"

"Well, considering I've never done so before… And, I don't plan on doing it again, so I'm counting on you to make sure everything's amazing."

"Oh, we will!" Rose confirmed with a series of eager nods before her boss could stop her. "Ooh, this is so exciting! A rooftop proposal, overlooking the city at night…" she sighed. "So romantic!"

"You got an elevator that goes all the way up, right?" Kelly asked.

"Yeah," Kyle confirmed. "But I wasn't thinking about that much food…"

"Not for the food," Kelly chuckled. "For you, and the table and chairs you probably need me to provide?"

"Oh, right. Yeah… elevator goes to the roof," Kyle nodded before asking with a sigh, "So how much is this gonna cost me?"

The proprietor laughed long and loud. "Big shot attorney like you, worried about money?!"

"I'm not worried about it, I'll probably just have to call my bank and let them know how much more I'll be spending today 'cause I've already spent a lot," the doubly pregnant man clarified.

"Tell ya what…" Kelly smirked. "You and Wes don't plan on movin' anytime soon, do ya?"

Kyle shook his head. "Not to my knowledge."

"Well then considerin' how much you guys spend here, I'm gonna do tonight at no charge."

"Kelly…" Kyle protested. "That's not why I asked for your help!"

"I know, but I insist! Rose and I will get a perfect dinner together, all you need to do is make sure we have access to the roof."

"I can do that, if you let me pay you!"

"Kyle… I've taken more than enough of you guys' money over the years. It would truly be my honor if you let me do this for you, OK?"

Kyle shook his head. "Honestly, Kelly… I knew you'd come through, but I really didn't expect or want you to do this!"

"Well I am, so deal with it!"

"Alright, alright…" he relented. "I know when I'm beat. Still, thank you so much!"

"You're welcome. Like I said, we're honored to be part of this special time for you."

"Aww, Kelly… I've never heard you say something so sweet!" Rose playfully swooned.

"Oh, shut it!"
