Not a duke or something, but a baron, which is usually among the lowest of noble ranks. The Kings praise sounded much more moderate. That is probably significant here.

Probably has some skill that tells her stuff about the food. She can tell that no skills were used making it and that made a bias. The only chef who has ever properly complemented her cooking was Xakor and he was an otherworlder as well so he knows that the system is flawed and some things can’t be judged simply by their level. As a scientist who created a device for inter-dimensional something no system given skill can do he understands that the system isn’t omnipotent.

2023-09-20 17:20:34 +0000 UTC2 possibilities I see here. 1, the nobles genuinely like her cooking because they are so used to high end cuisine, that junk food ends up being delicious. Or 2, their smart enough to realize that something is going on and decided to play along. Why else would the king and the nobles be sitting with commoners being served by some stranger. Maybe the king want something from her and playing along is their best option?
