Composition Screencast - Returning Home - Part 1
Added 2021-01-04 09:14:10 +0000 UTCI have been announcing it for quite some time now that I eventually wanted to do some videos of me talking you through my composition process. Until now however, either a rigid deadline or rights issues didn't make it possible to do so. However, towards the end of the year 2020 I found some time to start another composition that I had laying around for quite some time already and always wanted to transform into a proper piece.
So here's the first composition screencast. I'll try and take you from the first steps to the finished mockup of this piece. It's a sort of emotional theme in a Disneyesque style, I didn't come up with a name for it yet as I'm actually not much further down with the composition yet than what you can see in the video, so it only is called "Romantic Theme" for now, which I will eventually change as soon as it is more finished.
I have to admit that I find it incredibly difficult to compose and explain what I do at the same time, so bear with me while I practice this within the next few videos :) The video above turned out already quite long at around 40 minutes in spite of me consciously editing out passages where I needed all my brain capacity to come up with a musical solution and didn't talk much but just figured things out. I think this format roughly is the most effective one where we skip ahead over passages that are not that spectacular.
I'm also still trying to find the right balance of how much I explain of what I do. Looking back at it, I notice that I took quite a lot of things for granted with the viewer and simply didn't mention many things that I would normally mention for instance in my Composition Walkthroughs. Yet, I feel that this sort of video is a nice addition to the material that I provide otherwise. Please let me know in the comments or via private message if you find this useful, or whether this is overwhelming, or too slow or whatever so I can optimize a bit on the next videos.
