THE PENGUIN SEASON 1 EPISODE 1 [REACTION]

Following Oz in his escalation to power, as he becomes one of the most infamous crime bosses in Gotham, the Penguin!

Great beginning! I'm actually pretty impressed with how well this first episode flowed! From the get go I feel like I get an understanding of who Oz really is and wants, but at the same time there's so much room to learn and be surprised by him!

Like you said, I think she did the best with the material she had. Her Catwoman was written very cartoonish in comparison to Anne and Zoe, but it was the 90s😂 I think Zoe was my favourite, I don’t know why but I just never got into Anne’s🫢

Hahaha! It’d be interesting if they end up in some kind of seriously questionable relationship in this😅 But I mean Jim Gordon is still a man, and if she’s hot what else could he do🤷🏽‍♀️ It’s also Ryan from the OC so she was doing well for herself too😜🤣

It was. I'm not gna knock it. It was the 90s. Pfieffer did a good job as Catwoman as well but she isn't my favourite version. I have to say it's a tie between Anne Hathaway and Zoe Kravitz. I think both did a great job in their respective movies

Right. And Penguin is more unhinged in Gotham than he is here. Funnily enough he also entangled with Sofia Falcone in Gotham who is also very hot but unhinged. Sofia in Gotham has a toxic relationship with a young Jim Gordon. Lmao

Oh, I guess in the penguin version the riddler’s actions don’t make much sense to this version of Oz. Probably just feels erratic and crazy to him because there’s no financial/power grab for it🤔

I think I saw the first half of season 1, but fell off. Not because it was bad, but I think it was cause I was watching it on TV and started missing episodes🤣🤣🤣 Maybe when I’ve got some time I’ll give it another go! I guess the divergence in character can also be because of the age difference? Gotham was going for a younger version of the character, but the Penguin gives you a more confident version? Not sure obviously, but I’m just guessing lol! Regardless it’s nice to see the character being more fleshed out!

Interesting!! I always love Batman villains cause they aren’t super overpowered, there’s such a realness to them! And Milotti is killing her role! The acting throughout the series has just been great so far!

Lol penchant for umbrella weapons🤣Yeah it’s clear Burton was going for a fantasy story that wasn’t based in reality in any way haha! And he did a great job! For the most part the acting in Burton’s movies was pretty damn good!

Hahahaha! Yeah I never read the comics! Just watched the animated Batman series, and all the DC movies, so yes you will be impressing 😂

Yeah Gotham version has some similarities as Dan Delion said. The waddle, started as low level enforcers etc. Big difference though is that in Gotham Penguin admires The Riddler and in this Penguin hates the Riddler...calls him a madman. Both differently acted but still compelling. I took prefer this version. Gotham was good for the first 3 seasons and then it just became....I don't know...bad all of a sudden. Lol

Gotham as a show was pretty good in the first season, primarily when it came to Oswald. Robin Lord Taylor did a great job and stole the show for me. I feel like he was one of the best characters, alongside Barbara Kean. That show lowkey did some interesting new things sometimes and was full of references and homages. But it went off the rails hard though trying to do the most lol I eventually dropped it somewhere in the middle of season 4. There were a few of similarities between the two Penguins i suppose. Of course conniving and ambitious, which is the core of the Penguin. Both were mama's boys, which I don't really think is a comics thing that I ever heard. Started off as underlings. Both had a physical impairment that made them "waddle" (though in Gotham it was the result of a beating during the show). A temper. But beyond that I feel like they diverge quite a bit. Ultimately I think this one comes out as my favorite version though.

Dan Delion

So more info on The Hangman without revealing too much. In the comics she first appeared in Batman Dark Victory. She is a serial killer as they said in the comics. The show will go on to explain more about her. Just know she is a serious but underutilized villain. And the actress playing her Cristina Milotti did a terrific portrayal. She seems unhinged. Just right on the edge of losing it. Something about her eyes lol.

Jonny

You know DeVito's penguin was not comic accurate at all. He is just a regular stocky criminal who happens to waddle when he walks and has a penchant for umbrella weapons. Lol. Don't ask me why. So yeah this actually is closer to the comics than Devito. Who btw did a great job with what he was given

Jonny

Yay! You're watching an absolute great series. They really did transition it well from the movie. Colin Farrell did an amazing job man. And with this you mean I get to impress you with comic knowledge as well instead of anime...lol say no more.
