So what do you think?

American Psycho is a goddamn great movie. And Christian Bale as Patrick Bateman does a terrific job. This is just such a damn iconic scene and I felt it was a perfect portrayal of what a certain salty company must have felt being surpassed left and right by straight up better animations.
Animations after all, are the perfect business card for any company. That is, if it is quality animation.

Consider it like art. A real connoisseur doesn't mind the expense to create/purchase incredible art. On the other hand, a downright greedy approach (often characterized by stringent budget and deadlines) at making art is often a dead giveaway of a lack of genuine artistic intent. And just like Bateman, is just a façade to make oneself look good.

But when compared to true artistic works, it's superficial nature becomes altogether apparent. For those that it didn't reflect too well on, this results in feelings of resentment and a desire to take down those who are doing better.
