Esh here with this week's patreon devlog.

Sorry for the late update today. I meant to do it earlier, then got distracted. And by afternoon I was feeling pretty bad and didn't have the energy to focus on an update. ;A;

But here we are - 10:30 PM and I'm posting on patreon!

Writing:

So let's talk about writing this week.

Back when I started Gilded Shadows, I knew that the original six LIs would have two problem children - Caleb and Magnus. I just had a feeling those two routes were going to be tricky to write. Annoyingly so.

And I was right on at least one count. Caleb's route is so difficult to write. The plot is intricate, Caleb is just a difficult guy to write. The romance is tricky. The whole thing is just frustrating and slow going.

Making progress on his route is like slogging through mud. I write and write and realise I have to go back and rewrite it all because it's not going to work. Or because I have to change something about the plot. It's frustrating to see progress on this route slow to a trickle.

His route is currently at about 70% complete and just...ugh. It's frustrating me a lot. ;A;

Out of frustration, and because I needed a break, I decided to work on the first chapter of Jack's route instead for a while.

Jack is the route I intend to do after Caleb anyway. So I thought it would be nice to just tinker with the start of it a bit. 

I didn't want to pause and work on editing Ari because, while that needs to be done, editing feels a bit like treading water since I can't talk about forward progress to getting to the word count goal. 

And I really wanted to be able to tick off a bit toward the goal. Editing is progress, but it doesn't let me adjust my spreadsheets. And I really just needed to see some visible progress happen this week.

Anyway, I wrote just over 8000 words for Jack's route so that puts it at 8% done. LoL

I will go back to Caleb's route over the weekend but I really needed to just get my head out of his story line for a bit because it's really getting to me with how difficult it's being. ;A;

I'm glad I only have about 30000 more words left on it. I'll be glad when the rough draft is done and I can move on to something else. =w= I'm already tired of you, Caleb. Sorry. But it's your fault for being a huge pain in the butt!

This week in art, we got a few more backgrounds in!

We got this background which may look a little familiar to you all. But oops. A thing has happened. 8D

And we got a few more BGs from the Court! 

We have a lot of BGs completed but still quite a few to go. We actually haven't gotten any of the ones from the Endgame complex yet at all so we still  need all of those.

We'll be continuing to have BGs coming at us for a while yet!

Still waiting on one more track from the cellist but I thought I'd let everyone who hasn't heard this one yet listen in! 

Upcoming Week:

Just going to continue to plug away at Caleb's route. Having gotten Jack's Chapter One: V.Potato done, I feel like I can jump back into Caleb and make that idiot behave himself. >=V

I don't know why there's always one character that I *like* and that I *enjoy* writing…..but that is just weirdly difficult to write. If Magnus doesn't behave when I get to his route, I will scream. >=O
