EXTENDED VOCAL ANALYSIS: ‘Ghost Love Score’-Nightwish

FIRST WATCH THIS 👉 https://youtu.be/0DNWpNXWPB4 then continue on to the PATREON EXCLUSIVE BREAKDOWN attached to this post.

I had an ABSOLUTE BLAST breaking this one down. For you all over here on AMBASSADOR LEVEL 1 and up, you get an extra 20 minutes of this masterpiece. I could’ve easily done another 20 minutes because I didn’t get a chance to talk about her vocal technique choices and how they tie into the expressive world of the song, I had to stop simply at breaking down the techniques.

This is such a unique fusion of styles not unlike some of the other artists we’ve listened to on this channel. How do you feel about symphonic metal?

It was well worth the wait! What should I check out of theirs next?

I hope you have an amazing start to your week next week!

Cheers!

Tim

Came running for this

Well, you are the one who finally got me to sign up to something on Patreon, and I'm glad I did :) As was said in one of the other comments, this was a COVID find for me too. I was listening to a reaction to "Disturbed - Sound Of Silence live on Conan" (Which btw, I highly recommend), and a reaction to this song came on afterwards, and I just let it play, boy am I glad I did, and I've never looked back since. They have such a wide variety, but all with the Nightwish signature vibe. Two of their biggest are "The Greatest Show On Earth (At Tampere)" (Not them being egotistical but rather named after the book by Richard Dawkins upon which the song is based) and "Poet and The Pendulum (Live at Wembley)". If you're purely in it for the vocal techniques, then these are both excellent examples. If you want The Journey, then before those, I'd recommend a few others. As someone else has said, "Phantom Of The Opera (Live End Of An Era)" with Tarja, their first singer will give you a taste for the first singer. Then from Floor, their most recent singer, as someone else has said "Shoemaker (Official Lyric Video)", this is one of the very few instances where I might recommend the studio over the live as there is no definitive best live. "Poet and the Pendulum" (PATP) is steeped in band and fan lore, and it would be good to see why the fans were so upset when the band fired Tarja by listening to her before doing "PATP". Kind Regards from the UK.

At the end they are chanting her name Floor. Next up, from Wacken 2013, Romanticide, Storytime or Song of Myself. Or really any/all of that concert none of them will disappoint.

I very much enjoyed your analysis you have much more to experience with Nightwish as they perform songs with many styles. This song was written by the keyboard player Tuomas who writes almost all their music, This song was written for their first singer Tarja Turonnen. For a different type of her singing I would suggest Yours is an Empty Hope, and hear our Valkyrie growl.

There are about 7 or 8 artist that I love to see reactors find them on their channels on YouTube. Then for the best of them, I will join their Patreon channel to give some support for a while. You still have a couple more artist that I don't think you've seen yet to react to (SoHyang from Korea) that I don't see on your channel yet. Nightwish was the first new group I ran across while watching young reactors reacting to music from the 70's and 80's which was during my youth. This version you picked was only a few months after Floor joined the band.

As I said over on the YT first video, as a classical and jazz musician myself, I love the composition of Nightwish. They were one of my COVID finds. I was lucky enough a few years ago to see The Warning live at a small venue in Reading PA, then two days later see Nightwish in Wash DC. That was a fabulous couple days of live music. Next? I would do Storytime from Wacken. I would also do Shoemaker. I like the studio recording of this one a lot. I think it is also important to know they have had three singers. Go do Tarja performing Phantom of the Opera live. It also features hands-down the best Phantom ever, the bass player Marco.

Thanks for joining up over here! I have so many more reactions coming to them. What an exciting project.

I have been waiting to see if you were going to get to Nightwish. I just joined your Patreon as you finally got there. Yay!!! You have so much more to experience from this band. As I said in my YouTube comment, every member of this band is such an accomplished musician. And, since your focus is on vocals, you have other Nightwish singers to experience, also. First singer with the band was Tarja, who was more operatic. Second singer was Annette, more poppy. Floor, of course is known for her versatility, and then you have the bassist/male singer, Marko who is rock/metal all the way and also known for his ability to harmonize beautifully with anyone. I very much enjoyed my first experience with your deep dive and look forward to hearing more from you, from Nightwish, and, maybe, from some of the other, very talented symphonic metal bands like Epica.
