1st LIVE LISTENING PARTY!
Added 2025-02-13 21:08:43 +0000 UTCThat was a lot of fun! You all had some super interesting song and artist recommendations.
I thought Twitch worked great for this purpose, so I will be using this platform into the future for this type of thing. I'll probably do some streams from time to time for the public, and also do some aimed at particular Patreon tiers. As I mentioned, I'll be sorting out the new tier structure over the next week.
2 things I learned from this today:
1. FREESTYLE PARTIES: If we do a freestyle party like we did here, where there's no theme and I'm just taking recommendations as we go, I will need someone to collect song recommendations. It'd be great to have someone curate them and feed them to me so I can focus on listening to the songs and commenting.
2. SPECIFIC ARTIST PARTIES: I think it will be a lot of fun to have these scheduled and themed to a particular artist so that all of the fans of the artist can come, and we can have a hang that would be focused. I could see us doing some of both.
I was really pleased with the overall logistics of this experience and I'm looking forward to doing it again! We tried it one time before with Crowdcast, but the audio wasn't so great and it was clunky getting people in there. Twitch seemed to work pretty well.
I'm going to be away next week, but I will have a couple videos go live while I'm gone. Once I get back, I will do some more scheduling of live streams, and we will discuss themes that would be fun to do them around. I see a lot of potential with this!
Feel free to leave some thoughts below, and thanks so much to those of you that popped by.
Cheers,
Tim

It started during the pandemic, each one would do something, answer questions, bake a cake (yes Pau did that)

2025-02-16 20:56:14 +0000 UTCAle absolutely slays Flea's bass line, and Dany's grit adds a really cool take on the song.

2025-02-15 16:17:49 +0000 UTCOne of the main reasons is that Japan has a very high level of musical education. In elementary and middle school, they teach music theory, the basics of playing instruments, and the basics of an orchestra. In high school, there are already music clubs where school groups are formed. Many artists start in such groups. Also, in Japan, there are many venues, literally in every block, and there is always someone performing there. Therefore, the appearance of 22-year-old virtuoso musicians with 5-6 years of experience is not uncommon.

2025-02-15 08:53:05 +0000 UTCFriday is Dany Day, Saturday is Pau Day, Sunday is Ale Day, the rest are The Warning days. As far as I know (TWA keep me honest here) itβs a fan/TWA thing π€π

2025-02-15 00:24:07 +0000 UTCThe Warning turned down a lot of labels before eventually signing with Lava/Republic records. The other labels wanted to change them and their sound and they stuck to their vision by not signing on with those other labels thankfully.

2025-02-15 00:21:29 +0000 UTCThis was wonderful! Just how I needed to end my day! Thanks, Tim! Wonderful suggestions folks! Loved every single one of them! Tim, THANK YOU SOOOO much for listening to Nicotine Dolls! The live version you did of 'What Makes You Sad' is one of my favorites. I played this reaction you did at least a dozen times. Hoping you don't lose the audio so I can play it again tomorrow. I'm also thrilled to know that you reacted to the wrong video of Nicotine Dolls (your recording with no audio). The one I recommended is a different song, live in their living room. You loved Sam's vocals in what you played today. Amplify that by 10 for the song I REALLY want you to listen to! I'm keeping my fingers crossed you'll react to it on your main channel at some point. The song is, 'How Do You Love Me (Reimagined) | Live' https://youtu.be/eHct7RvNKS0?si=_Dvm8ahIUA_UwZJd It builds slowly to an amazing level of vocal agility and heart on his sleeve raw emotion. Blessings to everyone. So bummed I couldn't be there with you all. π

2025-02-14 00:35:39 +0000 UTCIf you are interested in learning about the Japanese music scene (it is very big and innovative), I can be a reference. I have been studying for 2 years, although I have not watched half of it yet.

2025-02-13 21:39:14 +0000 UTCAs an information, Reol, the Japanese singer you listened to, is also a songwriter, composer, poet and also a multi-instrumentalist. She is in the top ten in J-pop. She is small in stature, 145 cm (even for Japan), but has a great voice and an overwhelming stage presence. She writes and produces all her own music. One of two artists whose concert Blu-ray I ordered from Japan. The other is Ado.

2025-02-13 21:39:07 +0000 UTCI thought the twitch stream went great and I learned of some great artists. Glad you like Dany's midnight show.

2025-02-13 21:25:17 +0000 UTCThey crush it. I think the best version is on the Don-Music youtube channel. He brought the bass up just a little. It was live at Sirius XM but Sirius never released a recording so everything is copies of the original broadcast.

2025-02-13 21:24:04 +0000 UTCJust so you know: I had Twitch open on both PC and mobile phone simultaneously, and had no issues at all. Only issue, if you can even call it that, is the absence of standard emojis on the PC. On the other hand, the PC allowed me to have the chat in a seperate window on my second monitor, which makes no sense for the mobile app.
