HRHL# CHAPTER 214
Added 2025-06-16 05:30:09 +0000 UTCVeratia turned her head away, feigning interest in the white bedsheet beside her, forcibly suppressing a laugh.
Harry, teased, began to make excuses: âThatâs where youâre wrongâit wasnât my Basilisk. It was bred by Slytherin, only obeying the Heir of Slytherin⊠and Ominis is the Slytherin descendant. So, by rights, heâs the Basiliskâs master. If you want to settle scores, you should go after him.â
Without waiting for Sebastian to respond, Harry deftly changed the subject: âAnyway, I spoke with Professor Dumbledore. He said Morfin Gaunt doesnât know where Voldemort hid Ominisâs portrait, but after some analysis, we think itâs likely his Horcrux is with the portrait. For example, a Gringotts vault could very well be one of the hiding places for his Horcruxes.â
âSounds like heâs quite the prodigy,â Sebastian said with a loud whistle. âTo successfully split his soul and create a Horcruxâthat kind of pain tolerance alone makes him remarkable. And from what youâre saying, he made more than one?â
âYes, his diary is one of them,â Harry nodded. âProfessor Dumbledore and I suspect that ringâMarvolo Gauntâs ringâis likely another Horcrux he created.â
âThatâs going to be tricky for you,â Sebastian said, his ghostly form rippling like water. âIâm just a ghost now, only able to watch you fight Voldemortâwhat a pity, what a pity.â
Harry eyed the rippling Sebastian suspiciously. The ghost looked almost⊠excited.
âYou donât seem to think itâs a pity,â Harry said. âYou seem thrilled.â
âOf course I am,â Sebastian grinned. âYouâre my protĂ©gĂ©âwell, in dark magic, at least. Iâm dying to see what kind of electrifying showdown youâll have with the most powerful dark wizard of the century, Harry.â
Well, there it wasâa troublemaker who loved watching the chaos unfold.
âI knew it,â Veratia suddenly turned back, glaring at Sebastian. âAll his dark magic came from you, didnât it? The three Unforgivable Curses, right? Couldnât you have taught him something good?â
âEr, actually, I also taught him Bombarda and other nasty curses,â Sebastian raised a hand, unfazed. âOh, and Fiendfyre, Conjunctivitis Curse, and so onâŠâ
Harry quickly grabbed Veratiaâs wrist to stop her from raising her hand and blasting Sebastian with ancient magic.
âWith a friend like you, heâs truly blessed,â Veratia said with a cold smirk. âIf he didnât know ancient magic, heâd probably have been driven mad by the Cruciatus Curse by now!â
âBut I know that those who study ancient magic channel their emotions into that emotional nexus,â Sebastian chuckled. âBesides, how can you fight dark wizards without knowing a few dark spells? Didnât Professor Hao Ying always say? Know yourself and know your enemy, and youâll never lose, not even in a hundred battles.â
âAnd honestly, when did you become so sanctimonious, Grindelwald?â Sebastian added. âYouâre the one who developed the method to use Avada Kedavra to kill every target in range simultaneouslyââ
Before Veratia could retort, a teasing voice interrupted from behind.
âI must say, I never expected you to have such colorful experiences.â
The three turned to find Dumbledore standing behind them, having appeared unnoticed.
âHowever, I must add that I donât approve of learning dark magicâat least not before fourth year,â Dumbledore said. âDark magic affects the mind, and young witches and wizards may struggle to control it, potentially leading them astray.â
âYouâre right, Professor,â Veratia nodded in agreement.
Sebastian stood, facing Dumbledore.
âYou must be the current Headmaster of Hogwarts?â he said. âThe name Dumbledore⊠Iâve heard it somewhere beforeâŠâ
âOh, you may not remember me, Mr. Sallow,â Dumbledore said with a warm smile. âBut you might recall my sister, Arianaâthe little girl with the Obscurus.â
Sebastianâs face lit up with realization.
âAh, yes, I remember now,â he said. âAriana Dumbledore, right? I recall meeting your sisterâand your rather hot-tempered brother, Aberforth Dumbledoreâwhen I was researching ways to control Anneâs condition. How is she? Ariana?â
Dumbledore sighed and recounted the story to Sebastian.
After listening, Sebastian gave Veratia a look that was hard to describe.
Veratia glanced away, slightly embarrassed, feeling awkward about her troublesome brother.
âI heard from Harry,â Dumbledore said, breaking the tense silence, âthat your sister, Anne Sallow, is currently sealed by Ominis Gaunt in a cave in the Forbidden Forest. Unfortunately, even a century later, weâre still powerless against dark magic curses.â
âSo we can only wait for the right moment, until we find a way to break the curse and save her,â Sebastian said, glancing down at his ghostly form. âI just hope she wonât be too upset seeing me like this.â
âAt least you can still be by her side, Seb,â Harry said consolingly. âThatâs much better than disappearing from her life entirely.â
âTrue, though not being able to eat is a bit of a hassle,â Sebastian said with a chuckle. âBut Iâm not like that Hufflepuff, Sweeting. Even as a ghost, not eating doesnât bother me.â
âSpeaking of Poppy,â Harry said, âsheâs not doing great either. Sheâs turned into a magical Muggle, unable to revert to her human form.â
Sebastian shot Harry a sidelong glance.
âSome people sure have a lot to answer for, Harry,â he said with a cold smirk. âLook at all theâŠâ
âAlright, Sallow,â Veratia cut him off. âInstead of thisâwhat are you planning to do over the holidays? Harryâs going back to the Muggle world, so he might not be able to take you along.â
âIâll stay at Hogwarts,â Sebastian said nonchalantly. âI quite like it here. Maybe Iâll become Hogwartsâ newest ghostâŠâ
âYouâre not the newest,â Harry added. âThatâs Myrtle WarrenâMoaning Myrtle. She was killed by the Basiliskâs stare in 1942.â
Sebastian shrugged. âWell, Iâm still new, since I just got here. And this time, if I sneak into the Restricted Section, the librarian wonât be able to stop me, right?â
âPeeves might,â Harry said with a grin. âOh, by the wayâsince youâre a ghost now, you could probably give Peeves a good thrashing. Remember when you dragged me to the Restricted Section to find a cure for Anne, and Peeves ratted us out? You got into quite a bit of trouble for that.â
Sebastian thought for a moment, then nodded seriously. âYouâre rightâIâd almost forgotten. Thatâs when I taught you the Disillusionment Charm, wasnât it? But⊠Peeves. I really need to teach that pest a lesson with my fists.â
Even as a ghost, his temper hadnât cooled.
Ask any Hogwarts studentâgraduated or notâwho theyâd most like to punch, and theyâd say Filch or Peeves. Those two were just that insufferable, especially FilchâŠ
Dumbledore seemed engrossed in studying his beard, utterly unconcerned about whether a ghost might get a thrashing.
âYour task is a heavy one, Harry,â Sebastian said, turning to him. âThis holiday, youâve got to track down Ominis and Malfoy. Remember what I told you? After Grindelwald and Sweeting vanished, Malfoy disappeared too. I bet sheâs coming for you. You know how she is.â
âKnow what?â Harry asked, curious.
Veratia cut Sebastian off.
âShe cares about you, Harry,â she said. âDonât let her sharp tongue fool youâCassandraâs the one who worries about you the most.â
Sebastianâs expression turned subtle.
WomenâŠ
Veratia would rather boost Cassandra Malfoyâs favor than let Harry know her true intentions.
Oh well, Sebastian thought. Itâs all just entertainmentâwhose drama was he watching, anyway?
Deep down, he always thought Cassandra Malfoy was the one Harry liked best. But neither Harry nor Malfoy had realized it yet.
Especially Harry, who even thought he disliked Malfoy. HonestlyâŠ
The more Sebastian thought about it, the more excited he got. He couldnât wait to see the look on Grindelwaldâs faceâthinking she had the upper hand, only to be outdone by Malfoy.
That said, if Sebastian had to pick who was better for Harry, heâd choose Miss Grindelwald.
She was inclusive, gentleâperfect for a kid like Harry, who lacked security. Only a warm, older-sister type could give him that sense of safety.
As for Miss Malfoy, that tsundereâŠ
Merlinâs beard, if she didnât change, theyâd spend their days second-guessing each other.
âSheâs right, Harry,â Sebastian added, seizing the moment.
After chatting in the Hospital Wing, Sebastian returned to the Slytherin common room.
He was Slytherin through and throughâalways would be.
The Slytherin students were used to ghosts and barely batted an eye at Sebastianâs arrival.
But Sebastian immediately spotted the slick-haired Draco in the crowd.
Lucius had planned to send someone to fetch Draco, but Draco insisted on taking the train back to London tomorrow, so Lucius let him do as he pleased.
âHey, Malfoy kid,â Sebastian called, waving at Draco.
Draco approached, eyeing Sebastianâs youthful ghostly form uncertainly. âYouâre⊠looking for me? Do you know me?â
âOf course I do. Platinum hair, gray eyes⊠youâre just like your great-great-aunt,â Sebastian said with a grin. âAllow me to introduce myselfâSebastian Sallow.â
Dracoâs mouth fell open before his face lit up with realization.
âOh, I know! Youâre that Slytherin legend from back then!â he said eagerly. âItâs an honor to meet you, sirâI know all about your exploitsâŠâ
âIâm surprised anyone still knows my story after a century,â Sebastian chuckled. âWhat do you know?â
Draco launched into an enthusiastic recounting of everything he knew about Sebastianâs deeds.
âYou probably donât know,â Sebastian said casually, âthat I spent the rest of my life in Azkaban, do you?â
Draco blinked. âWhat?â
âNo big deal,â Sebastian drawled. âMeeting a descendant of an old acquaintance is always a pleasure.â He leaned in. âI also saw Drake Flintâs descendantâthat bucktoothed troll, right?â
Draco glanced back at Marcus, who was spitting enthusiastically in conversation, and nodded. âYeah, thatâs Marcus Flint, captain of our Quidditch team.â
âYour great-great-aunt really didnât like his ancestor,â Sebastian said with a grin. âShe even got the Board of Governors to warn their familyâif they bullied Harry Potter again, theyâd be kicked out of Britain.â He leaned closer to Draco. âYou didnât know, did you? Your great-great-aunt really liked Harry Potter.â
âOf course I knew, Mr. Sallow!â Draco said, practically vibrating with excitement. âMerlinâs beard, I canât believe you know too⊠Why havenât you told Harry? You know, given him a hint?â
âYou think Harry Potter would mourn for me?â Sebastian gave Draco a wry look. âYou know Miss Grindelwaldâs the jealous type. If she found out I meddled in their little love triangle, Iâd have been a ghost years earlier, no lie.â
âNo way,â Draco frowned. âMiss Grindelwald seems so kind⊠Besides, if sheâs like that, my great-great-aunt wouldâve been toast by now.â
âThatâs because sheâs the newcomer,â Sebastian said, exasperated. âShe feels guilty about your great-great-aunt. Think about it.â
âOh!â Dracoâs eyes widened as if struck by a revelation.
âSo hereâs the deal,â Sebastian said, glancing around to ensure Veratia wasnât nearby. âAs her great-nephew, youâve got a responsibility. You need to be her mouthpieceânot just passing messages, but translating them properly.â
âTranslating?â Draco asked, confused.
âBased on my guess, Cassandra Malfoy will be back by Christmas at the latest,â Sebastian said. âHer personality⊠itâs tricky. For example, if she says she hates Harry, she actually means she likes him but canât admit it because of her weird pride. So she says âhateâ instead, but itâs really about her own frustration, not Harry. Got it?â
âHold on!â Draco pulled out a notebook. âKeep going, Mr. Sallow⊠So, when my great-great-aunt says something like âhate,â I should translate it the opposite way, right?â
Sebastian gave Draco an approving look, as if he were a promising student.
âBut what if she says she likes Harry?â Draco asked innocently. âI just pass it on as is, right?â
âAre you daft?â Sebastian said, exasperated. âYes, that one you translate as is. But with her personality, expecting her to say âlikeâ is like expecting me to swear off dark magic forever.â
Draco made an OK gesture, signaling he understood.
Then, cautiously, he asked, âYouâre an expert in charms, right? I mean⊠all kinds of charms?â
Sebastian grinned, leaning back in his chair. âDid you know? Almost every nasty curse Harry Potter knows, I taught him in secretâŠâ
At that, Dracoâs expression shifted dramatically.
It was written all over his face: If you donât mind, Iâd love to call you my godfather!
