October Video Updates

Hi everyone, here's a full update on what's going on with the channel at the end of October!

This month I published two videos: Operation C and a more experimental one on the illegal salvaging that has taken place on the Java Sea wrecks in the last decade or so.

I'm quite happy with how both are doing so far, and taken with the really successful Battle of the Java Sea video at the end of September, it means that things are better financially than over the summer.

This is important as the end of the year is traditionally the time when advertising rates are at their highest and the demands for sponsorships is peaking as well. My aim is to try and use November and December to generate enough revenue to see me through what I expect to be quite sparse months in January and February.

I'm hoping to get another 4-5 videos done before Christmas. Without further ado, here's how things are looking on all the various projects I've been working on. I'll go in order of how close to completion they all are.

Edinburgh

The next video on the channel is likely to be one on the remarkable story of HMS Edinburgh in WW2. If you're not aware, Edinburgh was a light cruiser tasked with shipping 5 tons of gold bullion back to the UK from the Soviet Union.

It got into a desperate fight with U-boats and German destroyers en route, and was eventually sunk in the Barents Sea. A few decades later, a very bold salvage attempt was organised, managing to retrieve almost all the gold on board.

I've more or less written the script for this project, though I haven't yet decided whether it should be one video or two- I'm not sure whether the salvage efforts should be their own video or incorporated into a single publication. What do you think?

Likely publication date: 8th Nov

Spring Awakening

Okay so a lot has happened on this project since the last comphrensive update I did. For a while I had moved this project back into the new year to make way for some other videos, but now I'm more inclined to complete it in November.

If you aren't familiar, Spring Awakening is a video about the last German offensive of WW2, which took place in March 1945.

I have a half written script for this video, my plan is probably to finish writing it and then assess how much work needs to be done to complete this project.

Tentative publication date: 23rd Nov

Pacific Submarines

This is a new project, looking at the pacific submarine campaign 1941-45, and the broad offensive against Japanese merchant shipping.

There's a lot of knowledge and emphasis on the battle of the atlantic, but I don't think a lot of people realise just how impactful the allied commerce offensive in the pacific was during the war, so we're taking a look at that.

The idea at the moment is to have two videos in this miniseries. The first will be a broad overview of just how successful the sub campaign was, with lots of numbers and statistics. The second video will be a telling of a single crazy battle between a US sub and a japanese convoy- that of 'Ramage's Rampage' in July 1944.

The research for this series is approaching its end, and I'm targeting a December release for this series.

Battle of Jutland:  Actually a British Victory

This video is in a similar state to the last update. I have now recorded a script and worked on a few minutes of animation. I'm keeping this video in reserve for a rainy day at the moment, to give me something that I could finish up relatively quickly in a pinch.

At the moment I'm targeting a January/February release for it, but it is possible we see it this year. The way this happens is if a potential sponsor comes along with a good offer and I have no other slots free in December. If possible I want to avoid leaving potential income on the table as it may not be available in Q1 2022.

Thanks for reading everyone, and thank you for the ongoing support!

These all seem very interesting videos and I am especially looking forward to The HMS Edinburgh and pacific subs videos. I agree that splitting it if there is sufficient content. As usual, keep up the excellent work.

my thoughts on the HMS Edinburgh video: if it's enough content for two 10 min videos I would say to go with two videos I think that will work better for people that may only be interested in one of the two topics (hopefully increasing views + time watched) and those of us that watch your videos regularly won't mind, we'll watch regardless if it's one or two keep up the good work!
