Dig Watch: Digging Band of Brothers (teaser)

The dust has barely settled on our latest episodes and already we're back in the field with more Dig Watch action...

We're in for a very special treat over the next week, so clear your diary, dust off your stripey jumper and crack open your rations tin.

Time Team has reunited with Operation Nightingale to investigate a Wiltshire village, once home to Easy Company of the US 101st Airborne Division - the iconic Band of Brothers!

The soldiers were stationed here before embarking on D-Day, and we'll be covering their fascinating story, working alongside military veterans and a few familiar faces.

For all members on the Digger tier and above, we'll be bringing you daily video updates from the site every evening, right here on Patreon. Look out for more details on Patreon and across our channels.

In the meantime, here's a little teaser from the site shortly before the action gets underway. See you tomorrow!

Of course! My first duty station. I was 2/17 CAV there. I lived in the little Tennessee sliver known as “Clarksville Base”. Fort Campbell is in Kentucky because the base post office is just feet over the Kentucky line if I recall. I was there for a year and half. Went through the Air Assault school, and then spent the rest of my time there with the Blackhawk helicopters. After that I ended up in Germany, but in the Armored Calvary. Bradley fighting vehicles and M1 Abrams tanks. I missed the Air Cav! I do have a UK connection as well. We trained the 1st Royal Tank Regiment troops who were based in Hildesheim. They were on rotations for Belfast if I recall. I had loads of fun with those guys.

Then you must be familiar with Fort Campbell. During WWII my great uncle had a farm outside Hopkinsville. A detail of German POWs from (then Camp Campbell) helped work on his farm for a couple of years. Meanwhile, his nephew/my uncle was a POW in Germany (8th Air Force bomber crewman). After the war my great uncle with his church sponsored a couple of the German POWs to return to the U.S. after they were repatriated back to Germany. I was USN, Vietnam.

Looking forward to the updates.

Very excited to see what can be learned with this stellar cooperative/collaborative effort!

Kay Theriault

Love the TT Nightingale association! Looking forward to this latest collaboration.

Doug Mackey

So excited for you to work with them again!

Denise Jones

This is excellent. I actually served with the 101st Airborne. 40 years later, and with the Cavalry rather than the Infantry. I’m very excited to dig in!

Jon Colcord

So excited for this one! I eat up anything related to WW2, especially 101st Airborne Division stuff 🦅

Looking forward to the next dig premiere...
