For my job, I recently read a huge article on a well-known foreign game resource, themed "Why we consider Overwatch's Zarya a lesbian".
In truth, 80% of the article was a horror story of Russian state authorities encroach upon gay rights. It was so detailed, frightening and vivid that even I, a heterosexual, am now scared to go outside!
And the other 20% were dissolving of a simple idea that "Blizzard didn't yet tell who's gay in Overwatch, but we know it's Zarya, because (fanfare!) people draw fan arts on that!"
Oh come on! Fan arts have chars having sex in many ways! And, surprise, in that way too! "It never happened and now it happened again!"
And why did the fans decide Zarya is a lesbo? Easily. She's buff and has dyed short hair. The most low minded stereotype on lesbians became the base for a five screen long article.
Well if fan arts matter, here's my stone for the other half of the scales.
Have nothing against lesbians, but if you pump iron and cut you hair short, you can fuck with a guy too.
