Lab Rats 2 Girl Examples

A couple of days ago I posted an example render from Daz Studio showing off what a base character from Lab Rats 2 would look like. Since then I've gotten a small collection of test clothing implemented in the game and wanted to show off the kinds of variation that's possible with the system I've built.

The collection of images above show off 6 separate randomly generated characters. Each girl has one of three body types (skinny, average, or curvy), one of 10 breast sizes (They range from AA up to FF), one of 3 hair styles (and 4 hair colours), and is wearing one of three outfits I predefined. It's important to note that the outfits are completely modular; there's nothing stopping you from having the sweater shown off in one of the pictures combined with the shorts shown off in another, or having no shirt as part of the outfit at all. All of that clothing can also be stripped away one piece at a time during sex scenes, with different sex options becoming possible as you pull pieces off.

There are a few things that are being worked on right now, but that aren't shown in the picture above. The first is obviously more pieces of clothing to assemble outfits from; this first proof of concept batch consisted of 10 or so items but there's no reason I can't have many, many more supported. Second, the characters entire facial region is a placeholder. Different facial designs and moods are being worked on which should stop them from looking similar to each other. Finally, accessories like watches, tattoos, makeup, etc. is possible with the clothing system, but there are no items implemented yet to show it off.

1) I've emphasised the body types in the newest render batch, hopefully it looks a little more different from the waist down. 2) I like the idea of age relating to different stats, I'll see what I can do about that going forward.

Not floating, but a temporary background that happens to put them near a floor gives them that appearance. There's a lot of graphics work to do to get everything looking good.

Are they floating? Maybe don't render their feet since it makes solving the perspective with background issue easier.

The only major queries I have are (1) are any of the option girl going to be slim hipped (all of the above are very similar from the waist down), and (2) is there going to be an age range similar to the Mom / Nora -> Lily / Alexia options in LR1? OK, the latter isn't really to do with the test pictures, but perhaps younger girls would work for less but have lower skills, while the older ladies would be more skilled and resistant to being corrupted, but once they were could act as "den-mothers" to make it easier to corrupt the younger employees. But let's wait to see how the game develops.

I agree that the slouching pose makes their breasts look a bit lopsided, but I think that is mostly down to the way DAZ accurately maps gravity effects. Similarly I think the skin-tight jumper is also an artefact of how DAZ renders some clothing unless you buy add-on software to tweak the way it hangs. I think the LR1 pics look a bit cuter, but DAZ allows for a lot more options which seems to be one thing LR2 is going for.

im sure youre working on some of these right now as were mentioning them in the comments but, one thing that ive noticed is i think the hair needs to be worked on as well at the moment it just kind of seems plopped on? I think ill just need to wait and see how well the updated models come out to really make a full statement. But even though they are randomly generated don't forget to give the characters that same kind of "Vren" charm you had in LR1! Just keep at it my friend im interested to see how LR2 is gonna pan out!

Procedural generation really shouldn't be necessary unless you're really deviating from the first game? Seems like an odd choice. The potential for this feature seems to lure lots of game devs from indie to AAA and very few games are benefited from it at all.

I like the bottom left the most. All are definitely better then the last naked example. You might argue if they are pretty, but I do no longer think they are ugly. And I think it depends on the variety of poses how realistic they look. I like the idea of being able to (un)dress them ;) But you still need to work on the hair, it does not look right as it is now.

Even setting aside the faces, there's still a sameness to the images. Differences in body type are perhaps too subtle (you might not recognise the differences in a looser outfit), and the height and skin tone has no variation. This is a problem with procedural generation - you need to get a lot of different factors to vary before you really get a realistic variety, and it's worse when generating characters since parts of our brains are optimised for recognising other humans. The problem from a game design view is that this leads to a combinatorial explosion if using pre-rendered images. The clothing is also hanging in a very unnatural way, as pointed out by Anthony and Josh

I agree with Anthony that something seems off about the boobs. I think it's that the shirts are clinging to them way too much, especially in the examples of extremely large boobs. The shirts should be stretched over them instead of clinging like that. Also, a general thought - I notice that (at least) two of the example women generated without bras, and you mentioned the possibility of them generating without shirts. When they generate, they should be selected based on the woman's slut score (or whatever the equivalent is for Lab Rats 2) so that only sufficiently slutty women will go around without underwear, or with ONLY underwear.

I do too, but I think it's because the girl is slouching to one side. I'd assume that in the final game there will be multiple postures.

All of the boobs seem really off for some reason, they seem lopsided to me. Also the bigger ones seem too big, and look even weirder due to being lopsided. Do you see the same thing?
