Patron-only poll!

Hi everyone! I have had some burning questions on my mind and your opinions as patrons are super important to me. This post is long.

What do you think about me uploading two medium-effort videos per big, scripted project (e.g. "How it Feels")?

PROS of this:  It will give me more time to flesh out the "big project" scripts over time and will keep my channel more active. Also might prevent some burnout.

CONS of this:  Will slow down big-project frequency (keep in mind that I will be gathering footage and writing the script for big projects while working on the medium-effort videos)

Lastly, making more medium-effort videos will ensure that I upload at least once a month for a more-reliable Patreon income.

To give you an idea of production times: the "medium-effort" videos like Sleeping Dogs and Far Cry 5 have taken me roughly 100 hours each when you include the time spent recording. I would be surprised if any future "How it Feels" videos took less than 200 hours (Soldier video took 271 hours).

If I work 50 hours a week consistently, I could produce two medium-effort videos in a month and one big project in a month. Big projects would be two months apart. Of course, sometimes life gets in the way, and making two medium-effort videos would guarantee I'm posting AT LEAST monthly.

I would be more comfortable that you all consider your patronage as a monthly contribution. I have it set as "per video" because I want you to trust that you won't pay a dime unless I am producing. Please limit your patronage setting to "once a month" if that is a consideration for you on the matter of upload frequency.

I will also happily consider your suggestions in the comments :D

EDIT: PLEASE DO NOT SELECT BOTH OPTIONS! This will muddy the results a bit

I think you should make 2 medium-effort videos per BIG project. but that's up to you though.

Don't overwork yourself! You've got this.

Heck, medium-effort videos are just as much fun as one high-effort. So why not have two? But don't overwork yourself, Lazy. If it doesn't work out, all of us will still support you.

Palpameme

I believe I proposed that exact idea, the two mid-effort vid, so I'm completely on board!

If you can manage the 2 medium effort plan then I emplore you to try it out. But be reasonable tony yourself and monitor how tasking it is. Ill be understanding if you need to change upon realizing the struggle if it poses more of a challenge than you expected. All in all, dip into new waters if you want, but feel free to go back if it doesnt work! You have my support either way.

I would propose that, in a way, your money is going into making his big-effort videos because you're allowing him to take the time necessary to make it. A human is not a factory machine that can just produce at a constant rate, after all. Forcing him to stressfully churn it out at a constant rate will absolutely cause the whole product to fall apart. Everyone loses.

I would like you to make big videos like how it feels and not medium-effort videos because i like money and i want my money to go to content that i like not medium-effort videos.

I already value your medium effort videos higher than nearly any other similar content being produced by anyone else, so for me having more of those + a healthier you + having that extra time when you need it for polish on the big stuff seems like a winning scenario

Exactly so!

LazyPurple

I agree with you, but I'm not sure which path you think is more stressful! Could you clarify?

LazyPurple

The level of quality on "How it Feels" is simply astounding. Anything to keep that afloat is good in my book (although whatever works best for you is kinda the right answer here, the last thing we want is a washed up 'tuber/burn out)

Thank you for this well-thought out and honest comment! This side of thought is just as important to me

I think most people here are very caring and good people and will most likely suggest that you do what you want, because it really is more important that the creator is happy, especially because of how often creators fall apart due to poor mental status. However, that answer will be made clear with each successive comment. I'm going to take the opposite side and look at it completely selfishly for the sake of argument. The How It Feels videos blow me away every time with the quality and creativity and work put into every one. The 'medium-effort' videos are very entertaining and the best that they can be, but they don't even come close to comparing to the 'big projects'. If patreon should be considered once-a-month instead of per-video, then I'd rather that monthly payment go to the next big project be it a How It Feels or whatever you have cooking than an extra medium effort video, even if that means a once-a-month upload schedule is lost. TL;DR: I enjoy the medium effort videos a lot, but I value the big projects exponentially more.

Setting a higher standard of effort is not something you want for the good of your mental health, stress is quite the lethal thing.

you got this

Do whatever you feel is best for you.

I believe that if it means the turnout of the project is better, then take all the time you need

sure, as long as you can handle it all.

As long as at the end of the day you can look at what you've made with pride, then it's all the same
