The Patreon Podcast - Episode 15 - Seven Dirty Pugs

Oh boy here I go talking again.

- Dan

Comments

Is it just me or was the end of the podcast filled with weird gaps and stutters?

fieryaleeco

Slytherin is the house of "selfish racists" in the same way that Gryffindor is the house of "brash assholes". Slytherin house is the house of pride, cunning, ambition, and strong leadership. These traits might be found in villains, but they're found in heroes too- Slughorn was a Slytherin, Tonks was a Slytherin, heck so was Merlin. Read into the Pottermore and other extended universe stuff, it really shows that seeing Slytherins as being inherently villains is kinda shortsighted.

Ryan Boyce

Since you played fortnite for Saturday’s video I wanted to ask if you liked it or not?

Birchwood

Question: Why do you like Slytherin? Not meant as an insult, just genuinely curius, seen as the Slytherins are the selfish racists of Hogwarts, it's practically the requirement for entering there. (Asking because i watched your 3 year old "Nerd³ FW - Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup" video, and you said you liked them best)

The person reading this is sexy and epic

Hey dan, have you seen the game Abandon Ship? It is described as FTL meets pirates and it looks like it would be right up your street.

Zion Aitken

So “Lord” Alan sugar posted a picture/(meme) of Jeremy C with hitler in a car on twitter. What is your opinions on this and with what happened to count dankman (whatever he’s called) how does this tie in to hate speech etc... it’s a discussion topic for you.

Valthexus

Dan will you be playing pc building simulator as it is now available on steam

Have you ever had a salad cream sandwich before? If you like the taste of salad cream, I would give it a try. You can trust me.

Sandwich247

Have you seen the documentary "How Star Wars was saved in the edit" (goo.gl/HyhdFq)? I stumbled across it a couple days ago, seems right up your alley. It's a short documentary about how the original version of A New Hope was shit until George Lucas' wife got her hands on it.

Benjamin Poulson

Hi Dan, I feel the need to create something, but have no idea what. I've tried writing and filming and drawing etc. but can never find what is fulfilling or I feel is okay for me to do. I wondered if you have any suggestions? Don't mind what, just struggling to find a creative outlet

So I got into playing the sims 4 and was enjoying it and decided to watch your old videos because there some of your funniest vids then I come across this women who made you in sim. Take a look😂 https://youtu.be/2HGPseSdIfk

Valthexus

Hey Dan! I was wondering if you've heard of Something Witty Entertainment and/or their main show Sword Art Online Abridged. If you haven't, I would highly recommend checking them out. Their writing and comedy are easily on par with DBZ Abridged, and they even got some of the TeamFourStar crew to voice a few characters in it.

Joseph Henderson

I disagree, for pretty much everyone else believes in absolute free speech. If you give the government the power to police speech in any form, all it becomes the thin edge of the wedge on the slippery slope towards full scale oppression. The only reason I believe it as bi-sexual Irishman is because every time in history that laws like this have been implemented, even in my country; oppression of a certain believes is the always the outcome. Love your content though, which is why I pay you for it. Cheers for the place to vent.

Eoin is indeed pronounced liked Owen. Also the reason is love an x com style Mass Effect game is because I've managed to maintain my love of mass effect (and even quite enjoy andromeda) but can see why you might not like it anymore

Eoin Thorpe

Hey Dan, I've been enjoying your content for years now, just wanted to recommend checking out a game called Superflight. It's essentially a score attack wingsuit game with seed generated terrain. It's really dang cheap too ($3.39 canadian, not sure what it is elsewhere). Hope you give it a go!

Jonah Laramee

Dan did you know part of the reason that jacksepticeye started YouTube was because of you. In his earlier videos he goes on about your videos that had come out at the time. Also can you recommend a good laptop or computer for creating (writing and filmmaking), as I've heard you say razor, Alienware, and apple are shit. Not really sure what else there is. Thanks 😊 love the podcasts by the way, they get me through my night shifts 😊.

Rhys connell

Would you consider a permadeath of fc5?

Jackie

Can you talk about what was wrong with Ricky Gervais' special.

Kloovt

Dan, do you have a lesser known book or book series you would wholeheartedly recommend?

Jack Graham

Happy birthday then =)

Diarmaid Ó Braonáin

On the topic of 'murdering someone to upbeat music' - there's this that stands out in my memory. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkv0RMxIEXI

Nathan Connolly

Hey Dan, does it ever weird you out or randomly hit you that all around the world, there are people who consider themselves your fans, or that you've added something positive to so many people's lives (sometimes to a huge extent!), or just that on any given moment, someone somewhere might be listening to your voice?

PurpleManners

Random ass question right, what do you think about Universal Basic Income, just curious

And some birds have... Wait, is this comment going to be shown in Scotland? Mmrph.

Felice Enellen

TL;DR: Situational ethics NEVER work.

Felice Enellen

You don't go to prison for defamation. You pay damages if found guilty of it. It's a civil offense, not a criminal offense. Incitement to violence is just conspiracy. Conspiracy to commit a crime is illegal not because of what's said, but because of the intent to commit a crime. I don't know why there's even a separate law for it, if there even is.

Felice Enellen

Dan... being arrested over a subjective judgment call IS "bad shit". IT IS ALWAYS "BAD SHIT" TO GIVE YOUR GOVERNMENT THE ABILITY TO ARREST SOMEONE FOR A NON-OBJECTIVE THING. That's way _worse_ shit than allowing the KKK to have marches through the town square. Way, way worse. That's giving the government a blank check to imprison anyone for any reason they can contrive at any time and because YOU allowed it to be made law, YOU are responsible. Freedom always comes with a cost. The cost for freedom of speech is that you have to accept that people will say things you don't want them to say to people you don't want to hear it. Not just comedy. Even stuff like the most horrendous propaganda. Get it straight in your head or you'll never make better decisions than the Scottish judge did. The fact that you think people criticizing school shootings as fake, no matter how stupid they are, deserve to be in jail makes you _just as bad_ as him. smh

Felice Enellen

You actually introduced me to Jackspeticeye when he got his Pewdiepie shoutout in 2013. Think you did a favourite youtuber countdown or something? He's mentioned watching you a few times over the years too. Then he went and got 18.5 million subs and his content became a bit more targeted to the younger viewers. love you, ~Raytheon

Luke Fitzpatrick

Hi Dan I was just wondering why you prefer the vive over the rift? I feel like the oculus has better games, but maybe I just don't know all of them.

Jellex

Have you played Celeste?

If you had to have kids, which method of adoption would you choose?

Douglas Hodgson

Do you ever listen to late night radio 4 (23:00-01:00)

Douglas Hodgson

Which celebrities do you want to see on taskmaster?

Douglas Hodgson

How long does it usually take you to built a lego kit?

Douglas Hodgson

You said that you don't think you should be allowed to incite violence, but what do you think about religious texts such as the Bible and Koran that openly incite violence against groups of people?

Douglas Hodgson

I just saw the trailer for the American Taskmaster, it looks dreadful, thoughts?

Benjamin Blanks

what do you think of jimmy carr and the channel 4 shows he does like 8 out of 10 cats and 8 out of 10 cats does countdown?

Craig (CraigUntlNytTym) Penfold

Random question: Did you ever read ukresistance.co.uk when it was active? You seem like someone who would support their "Blue skies in games Campaign". Quote: "Games need BLUE SKIES! Games need BRIGHT YELLOW SUNS! Games need RED AND BLUE THINGS in them! We want to play in a HAPPY PRETEND LAND, not a shit version of an American slum full of mixed-race gangsters wearing licensed sportswear! "

A way out permadeath with Rebecca please, please, please I've wanted that since the e3 stream when it was announced

William Newing

Can people make Audio intros for the Podcasts like you did for the Live streams?Oh and also, It would be cool if you could get Matt to make a Factorio Server?Thoughts? Thanks,

But Tits are birds

Kim Clarke

there are limits to free speech in America. It is not in fact all encompassing like most people seem to think. it does not cover for blatant defamation, inciting of violence , terrorism, threats, etc.

wootifus

Have you played Celeste on the Switch yet? Really unique platforming game with anxiety and overcoming mental struggles as it's theme. Highly praised

The person reading this is sexy and epic

The book thing has actually happened. A lot of 'Autism parent' books basically advocate child abuse and really intense ableism. A lot of people in the autistic community are really vocal about it and call publishers out on it but because it's in line with the prevailing view (see the media reaction to disabled people being killed by their carers and the carers being given sympathy) then it doesn't get taken seriously.

Kittenpyjamas

For me the difference is between freedom of expression and freedom of speech. If you say "I hate Jews" that's a disgusting thing to say, but it's an opinion. However, if you verbally abuse a Jewish person and scream about them that's using your opinion to cause them harm. Still just speech, but more than an expression of opinion. However I'm not totally clear on where I stand on it all. It's a difficult issue.

Stan Gaskell

The issue I have with laws that limit free speach, is when it feels unfair or missuesd. Like Lauren Southern getting kicked out, but Islamic hate preachers are "okay". Or the Radio dawn thing simply getting a fine for islamic nasheed.

When you find out you're closer to Jon's age than Dan's :\

Daniel Marshall

A guy the same floor as me in uni got reported for hate speech. He sent a homophobic tweet to the rugby referee Nigel Owens. He claimed it was 'a dare' and apologised on Twitter, but that wasn't enough. He got reported to the police, and had to meet Owens and apologise in person. Without hate speech laws, these kinds of things would happen everyday, and for all the occasionally iffy cases you see, there a thousands of legitimate cases every day. https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/rugby/rugby-news/welsh-referee-nigel-owens-subjected-8894608

Harry Cochrane

What's the most embarrassing thing you've ever done? (For me, for example, because I believe in reciprocity: I was racing my brother in a public swimming pool. I got water in my goggles, carried on swimming and swam straight into the disabled man who was being aided into the water with the lift. I was mortified, everyone was mortified and I kept apologising. I think he found it pretty funny, watching this poor mortified teenager fall over herself backwards apologising. I'm still mortified to this day. I would probably also apologise again. Also, he was completely fine (I checked on like the fifth time apologising). The only thing injured was my immortal soul).

You mentioned games like xcom and mario + rabids and it got me curious. Have you ever tried fire emblem? It's a bit more 'anime-y' but it's always been a favourite of mine.

Joshua Aarons

I'm looking to get a gaming pc so I can play with mods! Any mods for any games you can recommend. I've looked through your 'nerd³ mods' series and have noted most of them down

Purple Disarray

have you seen sword art online abridged, everyone that watches it says it's better than the original.

I really like the way you think.

Henry

I'd fucking love that. I could really go for some hardwareporn

Mathieu Marlaire

Sea of Thieves is great, I'm enjoying the 'fun stuff'. I was watching back to Little and Cubed and the Heists, they are a lot of fun, glad to hear there will be more collabs stuff soon. Tits should be off that unacceptable words list, it's a category of birds, I saw great tits and blue tits as I cycled to work this morning.

Patrick Jackson

What really pisses me off is that America preaches free speech in totality and yet a shit load of cunts say that kids that get shot by guns do not have the right to talk about guns. Fucking senators telling them they shouldn't be talking about it. The fact they more vermanrly defend the second amendment than the first kills me inside

Peter Barrett

Was the same with me

Stan Gaskell

Is the description of this a reference to Rick and Morty?

You constantly mention the Autism Spectrum, even saying that Rebecca thinks your on the spectrum. As someone who was diagnosed with Aspergers at 9yo, i'm interested in how much do you know about ASD, and do you genuinely think that you could be on the Spectrum?

So when are you going to do something with Tom Scott?

Stefan Eisenreich

Hi Dan, reusing a discussion I had with my flatmate recently (who is Norwegian): if you could have any accent in the world when speaking the English language, what would you have? Also, consider yourself reminded that you wanted to do more TV rundowns!

Well Read Nomad

Hey Dan, you planning on doing anything with Steve and Larson in the near future?

J Singh

Dan, are there any games you’re aware of that make use of assistive technology to help as many people as possible access their content? Do you think the industry as a whole could do more to allow people with disabilities to enjoy as many gaming experiences as possible?

Vicki Smart

matt would be proud

I love the Doomsday theme by Murray Gold

I have a question about your rule about the target of a joke having to be laughing. what if some people who fall under the target laughs and some don't? I can think of several really crass jokes that I have made about autistic people. Both my brother and my best freind have different kinds of autism, and both mostly find those jokes to be funny. However I can imagine some autistic people not finding them funny (as well as others who would find them funny ETC). How do I then determine whether my joke was funny or not if some if the targets loved it and some hated it? Would love to know your thoughts about that, thank you. (Also, sorry for my long comments I just love discussing these kinds of things :P)

Skylos

I personally think that cuntish people should be allowed to say cuntish things no matter how cuntish they are. If they follow and harass a person and won't leave a victim of a school shooting alone, that is another matter, because then that is repeated targetted harassment towards an individual. That is much more specific than that a group of people could maybe be offended. However, I do think people should be allowed to walk out on the streets and say what they want, even if they are nazis or the KKK and want a bunch of people to die. Partly because words don't harm people, but also because laws silencing racists doesn't get rid of the racists. I'd rather want the racists speak up because then I know who is a racist, who to avoid and who not to hire in a job interview. I think society ostrasizing and judging them would be far more effective at changing their minds rather than to throw them in jail or give them a fine. Also, to clarify about the "words don't harm people" part, I know people will point and say that verbal bullying can harm people mentally. However that is not the words being harmfull, but the repetition that is harmfull, which is why I said earlier that I do think that repeated harassment targeted towards an individual doesn't have to be protected by free speech.

Skylos

Also I always wanted that Zurg figure (or one similar) because I loved (and still love) Toy Story but my mom couldn't find it anywhere but in the States. I had Buzz, Woody, Jess, and a couple others - but I always wanted Zurg! Maybe I'll try and buy one now just to fulfill my childhood dream

Owen Reid

I personally like how the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms deals with freedom of expression. section 2(b) of the charter states that you can have freedom of expression (which includes speech) to the exception of acts of violence and threats of violence. However Canada has its own hate speech laws which technically violate that specific right. However under section 1 of the charter, rights can be limited meaning that the law in violation gets to stay. Rights can only be limited however after the law goes through several "tests" called the Oaks test. If the law fails even one test (out of 5 I believe) then it is deemed unconstitutional and must be fixed somehow (which could mean getting rid of the law completely). So when people leave certain parts of hate speech laws infringe their right under 2(b) then they can bring a charter case which usually ends up in the supreme court (which have 9 judges) and then if the law doesn't pass the tests then you can't be found guilty for that specific offense. I think this works very well to still give people freedom of expression while still making sure everyone feels safe (which is another charter protected right).

Owen Reid

It SHOULD be equal, but those with money and power are always above the law... Until we, the people, say enough, and end their reign. Those who call themselves the "Elite" and think that they are so much better than everyone else always think themselves above the law, as Trump is showing in America right now. But the people can stop them, if they band together and say "Enough!" And that is why the Elite are always trying to keep us fighting each other, over the pettiest things. Race, religion, sexuality, even sports teams! Keep people fighting each other, and they will not be able to band together to eliminate the REAL threat. Divide and conquer is what it's called, and the elite spend all their time inflicting it on the rest of us.

Baz Poulton

I believe it was Comedy. Cos a lot of other people laughed and so did I. Sheer ridiculousness of a Pug doing it is funny

Mark Fletch

America has removed piss thanks to "pissed off" but in the UK that's still considered a swear.

Nerd³

on the subject of "the seven dirty words" i would debate that 'piss' could be removed, considering it can be used in other context. 'pissed off' 'get pissed(drunk)' or are these just australian things?

CMS creations

Also, you mentioned hero's, would you do an season 1 rundown like you did with doctor who?

Chester

I love it when you do the colabs, are there any YouTubers who you would love to get on the channel, or vice versa..

Chester

Have you played Dobble? I think you'd enjoy it.

Tim Thompson

I made you something for your birthday: https://youtu.be/94serhjMgUI

Stan Gaskell

The thing I thought about when you talked about Nazi dog thing is that pewdiepie did it and well there you go. And trump retweeted Britain first tweets. I don’t see them getting punished/told your not allowed. Hell trumps getting to meet the queen! So in free speech and law why is the exceptions to certain people just because they have money/fame when it should be equal. I was talking about the equal world thing to my physics teacher and he said well yeah but it’s like that will never happen because certain people want power. Then he also said interesting “it’s built in us to compete against each over and be more dominant. It’s there in our dna. It’s our genes. This even happens down to eye colour.” It’s interesting but very real. He also thought us about the golden ratio and said how these things are not shown to us yet they are all round us always happening and people don’t ask the questions anymore. Search up the golden ratio if you don’t know it’s very interesting. Da Vinci is most famous for it in his works and using it which now I applaud him.

Valthexus

Do you still play star trek online. Wonder what your thoughts are on the new expansion.

Harry Turner

Would this be televised?

Cameron White

Not a viewer of jacksepticeye either, but glad he was able to do some positive promotion for youtubers. Being Irish myself I feel he did us proud. Sooo... any chance of you appearing on Graham Norton or similar chatshow Dan? :P

Conor Moran

Hi Dan, We are running a Robot Wars style event in Leeds 25th April. Would you be interested in being special guest judge, should I email Matt about it?

Titusz Ban

I wish I could give you a bigger donation Dan because you so deserve it! As soon as I graduate from Uni my first order of business will be to up that number. Much love my dude <3

Thoughts on the new Infinity war trailer / are you looking forward to the fime coming out?

Stewart Lee dealt with the whole Context issue quite well: (Paraphrasing) "This sentence is so offensive that because we're filming this, I can't say it. It can't be let out into the world. Which is ironic, because in the last 20 minutes I've said every word in that sentence. Although none of you found them offensive because of the context in which they were used."

George Farren

I could never watch the good place after the first season bc I called what the twist was on the first episode and then it felt like those puzzle games that don’t let you go ahead if you’ve already figured it out

Dan, do you honestly think that people who hate gays are literate enough to write a book

Well you do kind of need jokes to be protected for your own sake. Exhibit A https://clips.twitch.tv/OddCleverInternJKanStyle

Dan out of interest alone is there going to be a set up video?

When that shit happend to Pewdiepie, I was on his side because it was clearly intended as a joke. I didn't think it was funny and he was a bit of a cunt for doing it but his jokes were genuinely taken out of context. But then he decided it was a good idea to yell the n-word in anger to a guy who killed him in PUBG... So that support didn't last very long.

Mathieu Marlaire

A funny thing pertaining slightly to the dog case is, that in an old Danish TV-show, which was set in WWII, a guy had taught his dog to not eat a meat ball if he said "it's a Dane". But the dog went to town on the meat ball, if he said "it's a German".

Emil Aagaard Bovbjerg

Far cry 5

Dan, if you want to make more multiplayer videos, I have a great suggestion I saw Sovietwomble play Besiege online and it's basically the best Robotwars game ever made.

Mathieu Marlaire

Where's the ship community video? It's the game where you kill people on a ship, I'm sure you remember. It was ducking fun......P.S I have never seen a star trek episode, what's so good about it....P.P.S I have seen the new movies...they're shit.
