The Patreon Podcast - Episode 95 - We're Back Baby

Yeah. I'm thinking I'm back.

- Dan

Comments

(I know this is a bit late) I always enjoy watching the youtube videos and I don't really like to watch streams. but after 10 years of free video's which i have enjoyed to incredible amounts and has even influenced something as large in my life as my personality itself. I will keep supporting you on patreon no matter what you choose to do.

Stipsyn

I thoroughly enjoy the youtube videos and get excited every time I see an upload. But genuinely would rather you do what you want and need to do. Pursue your own creative passions Dan, as long as you let us in on it <3

Eli Hoggard

I dont care about youtube ✌

I definitely care more about the streams than the videos! And if I’m ever craving YouTube content, there’s hours and hours already there!

Honestly, as long as you post the vods of the streams I'm fine with you quitting. Love the work you do, be that podcasting, streaming or writing.

im just here for the podcast. i would keep paying for the pod

Hasbreo

While I would be sad to see you quit Youtube, and it is admittedly the reason I started supporting you, I am definately going to continue my support if you do quit. While technically I love your youtube and want it to continue, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if you stopped. I'm amazed you continued for this long through allt he shit that youtube has put you through, god knows I would have quit way earlier. At the end of the day (assuming you can afford it because UBI isn't a thing here yet), you have to go and do what makes you happiest in your life. You may lose a few patrons, but the ones who do stay, you know for sure, will be the ones who are here to support you no matter what.

Amy Arrowsmith

Tbh I wouldn't miss the videos too much. I used to like them back in 12' to 16' but im burnt out of gaming videos now days.

sean jenkins

You're literally the most entertaining person I've hade the chance to watch. Your videos are absolutely fantastic and I've never really been able to catch your streams because of weird times and school and what not. But as long as I have your pods, can watch old streams and in general take part in whatever you feel like doing I'm in! supporting you here on patreon because you just simply deserve everything. You're just an amazing person. Do whatever you want to do and I'll be here with a massive grin without fail. We love you Dan!

Re: 'Life on Mars' and 'Ashes to Ashes' Oh Dan, you're in for a wonderful, happy, sad, beautiful story. Look forward to hearing about this on a future podcast. Re: The US Election An Election Night stream thing might not be the best idea, as with COVID a lot of the vote this year is going to be mail-in ballot voting, and US voting laws require all votes, even the mail-in votes, to be counted on election night. Mail-in votes take a LONG time to count - much longer than normal votes, and so the election result could not even be completed and ratified until several days or WEEKs after election night - and considering a significant portion of Biden's supporters are voting by mail and the opposite for Trump, leading to the scenario where the result could be that Trump wins on election night, but Biden wins after a few days because all the mail-in votes are counted and added to the result. Would Trump accept that result? Will the Electoral College follow the final result or election night? Nobody knows! Re: Why am I here? I, of course, enjoy your videos but honestly I'm here because of not just YOU. I'm here because of the books; I'm here because your community is a pleasant one and they rally around the Nerdcubed Company & Friends and I'd be sad to see that disappear; I'm here because of Rebecca's streams and twitter ramblings; I'm here because of Matt's contributions to the company; I'm here because of the friends I've made from your community; I'm here because your a positive-progressive voice that has a lot of reach and I want to support that voice; I'm here because Matilda needs more toys; I'm here because my girlfriend gets excited every time Rebecca posts a picture of the piggies on Twitter. I'm here because you've made and continue to make positive impacts on a part of society, and I want to see that continue <3

Harmelodic

I'm more than hoppy to support you guys whatever you chose to do, the way I see it, I watch you like I watch the grand tour, I don't really care for the cars I'm just there to watch James, Jeremy and Hammond dick around for an hour or so. I watch you, not completely for the games you play, but rather to watch you dick around in a game for half an hour. So do whatever you want, spend my money as you wish, as long as it supports what you want to do :)

Yeah, I wouldn’t mind. I only really consume books and podcasts now. They’re great! I’d probably move over to watching the occasional stream instead of the occasional video instead. Follow your heart!

Videos are the main reason for supporting, I don’t really watch streams, but as you said in the podcast, you have to do what you enjoy x

I try to watch the videos early but dont always have time but the videos are my main reason for support along with the highly enjoyable podcasts!

Daniel Bennett

I don't watch the early vids on patreon because I only do you on patreon and it's just a hassle to juggle two sites for videos I'll eventually get anyway

Slaughter round

Hi Dan, I've been watching your YouTube content for around 8 years now and I've always enjoyed it and will continue to rewatch it even once you're done! Your videos have always been there to help me laugh and enjoy my day and were especially helpful when I was dealing with depression and had lost my grandma. After watching your videos for years they have sort of become a part of my life, but I'd rather you persue what you really enjoy! I really can't thank you enough for helping me and I will always continue to support your patreon! I really hope that quitting youtube in the futer will help you be happier and healtheir :)

Gameboy

I already get plenty of content from re-watching your old videos, I would still like to see some new videos, maybe a couple a month when you're particularly interested in something rather than making videos to a schedule just for the sake of it

Narmatonia

I’m here as I do enjoy the main channel videos and wanted to support you just for how much joy you have brought me over the years if the main channel did stop I wouldn’t go though as I really enjoy the podcasts I would miss the main channel for sure but there’s a decent backlog to keep me busy and if there was an occasional video after the fact it would be a nice bonus

Jack Draper

I'm here primarily because I like you and I enjoy your content, and I want to support you so you (read: Matt) can continue making said content. I'm one of the 1000 that watches your videos early, and whenever I see you've released a podcast, I download it as soon as I can and listen to it when I need something to listen to. I'm not typically fond of the livestreams, but I'll tune in if you're playing something that interests me. That being said, if you were to quit making YouTube videos, I would totally understand it. I'd probably maintain my support for at least a few months and after that I'd come to a decision: if you were still releasing content that I enjoyed on Patreon or Twitch, I'd either maintain or reduce my support, depending on the content. If you completely dropped off of both platforms, I'd probably stop supporting you. I'll make that judgement call when we get there. Also, a suggestion (read: request): you could reduce your content to only one video a month and I'd gladly maintain my support. On top of that, you could do collabs and tell the other YouTuber to handle all of the recording/editing. For example, Jon regularly does livestreams on Wednesdays and Saturdays, so maybe you could use that time to make some quality videos together. Like that Smash series that ended 2 years ago. Just a thought.

Joseph Henderson

I just started supporting you on patreon, and tbh, I haven't really regualarly watched your channel, or your streams in a long time. If you stopped producing videos on their I wouldn't mind. If you stopped producing content, I'd be very sad though, so I'm glad the book is coming on (I supported it to get two copies, so am real excited!), and I'm happy you said you'll keep streaming. You are a fun, interesting person to watch and interact with, so I'm happy with whatever you produce!

Hi Dan. Regarding "quitting YouTube". I primarily support you for you. And this is a good way to give you (and your family/job) some support and financial stability. Lessening the financial stress of this situation and work environment. I primarily consume your YT content and the podcast. That's what I like and pay for. I love you in the edited and high energy form. I don't really care about the streams. As thay are mostly low energy and talking to the fans. Instead of it just being you and the game. This gives me little too no value. I have it as background noise sometimes, but thats about it. And the podcast is a better outlet for low energy fan talks. I also supported and loved your last book. And will continue by supporting your writing through backing it on unbound. I loved listening to you read it in audiobook form. You are, and have been my favorite YouT... Sunday Times bestselling author that does the YouTubes for over 8 years. I hope you continue with the edited content. But if you hate it there is no point in it. So follow your hart and that silly thing that sits on your shoulders. I will probably support you in your endeavours, what ever they may be. You have many possible futures ahead of you. But you need to stumble down the paths.

Dan, You should follow your heart wherever it leads but I personally absolutely love the channel. It has been a source of comfort for me for years. If its time then its time but man... I will miss it

I like your YT videos. Your livestreams are great, but the timezones just don't work out. And then there's the problem if I don't like the game in the stream. That's 6 hours of NerdCubed content gone and another week to wait. If I don't like a YT video, i know the next one's in a few days

Mark Fletch

As a fan from the Saints Row 2 days like... the "evil cars" challenge days. I want to say that I really love the videos and don't mind that things have slowed down on the main channel, there's a ton of content that I can rewatch and have a good time with (God help me the desert bus series is something i've watch 4 times). And I love seeing the unedited/completes videos since they are just more of the Dan personality I love to watch. I understand why you wouldn't want the live streams to be on the N3 channel, but... I wouldn't mind seeing them there in the first place. I don't ever go to live steams since they are at times when... really, i'm gaming, working, or just watching other videos. I think I only ever watched live streams during the Podcats. I am one of the 2,000ish members that watch the videos early when they come on patreon (main reason why I joined, also the podcasts. Just more nerd content to enjoy). Overall, I love the main channel stuff, thats the shit i'm here for. Podcasts here are great! I'm glad you have a book and working on more and would support them as they come. The live steams sound like fun, but I can't join often if at all. Sad to hear you're planning on leaving, but the writing has been on the wall since... well... since reboots have been more often in the latter part of the timeline of your channel. Either way. Do what you want! Stream highlights would be fun to see on the main channel more often too.

ectoBiologistNM

Also Dan, do you still want game recommendations? Game coming out next month called Mars Horizon. Devs finally gave a release date. Have Matt check it out for you, think you'd enjoy.

Jason K

I watch the youtube videos, but the unedited relaxed stuff that's the streams are just as interesting to me as anything. I don't have the time to watch stuff live, and I prefer to watch at my own pace so I can pause when I need to. That's the content I care about more these days.

Jason K

Dan have you ever read Redshirts by John Scalzi it's a good Star Trek parody novel, that won the Hugo award for best sci-fi novel in 2013

YourJelly

personally i'd rather the channel stays, but thats mostly cos i dont catch the livestreams. uploaded livestreams dont really have the same draw

Simon Paffett

Wouldn't be bothered if you killed the channel, as long as the streams are uploaded somewhere. Here to support you, not YouTube.

Ben Chilcott

I would support you off YouTube but as I work shifts could you still post the streams on a channel

Stuart O'Hara

I love your videos and all of the other things you do. and if you move away from YouTube I will still support you and the others.

Josh Harding

I joined mainly for your edited videos, but would try to support you if you moved away from youtube. There's no sense staying if you aren't having fun(other than, you know, the money, but you're already thinking about that). I haven't caught many twitch streams(due to the time difference and bad internet connections). I did enjoy your twitch highlights videos; maybe that could be a less intensive way to keep your channel active as you move away from Youtube?

The Parallel Viewmaster

I love streams when I’m able to catch them but they are long and often I have other stuff I need to do. I am here to support you and Rebecca but I am also here to watch the videos. I would much rather biweekly or even monthly videos than no videos because the videos bring me so much joy. I like the news videos but if you wanted those to become part of the podcast as a segment or something like it kinda has been I wouldn’t mind, but also like the more organized and structured format of the news videos. I’ve only read part of fuck yeah video games and I want to finish it but I have trouble dedicating time to reading so I will get to it eventually and I liked the parts I’ve read so far. Basically if you did one video every other week or one a month I’d be okay with that but I and I assume others would be devastated. I’d probably still support you if I could but I would be sad to see the videos go but happy that you are engaged in projects you care about so I’m torn about how to feel about this. Also I’m in the US, so I that makes catching streams harder unless I were to wake up early but sleep is important. Also, random concept is a writing stream where you just put on a timer or something or even webcam and just give people a space to work on stuff kind of like a study hall. Idk but that could be an interesting but odd livestream. This maybe incoherent because I wrote it after just finishing the podcast. Also I totally get that sci-fi names can feel pretentious and ridiculous but i also feel like there is a lot of variation in the sound systems of the world’s languages so there could be a lot of variation in space. Some of that variation might not be easy for English speakers to pronounce but someone who speaks a click language might be able to reproduce the sounds with ease so I think more variety in sci-fi is good given it’s not just for the sake of pretentious name generation. (I’m taking a linguistics course on sound systems right now and have been thinking about this a lot)

Michael the Bi Guy

I'm mainly here for these podcasts (,: tho the YouTube videos are still fun, it won't stop me supporting you when they stop ^-^

KingsWit

i readlly really like the lego technic toys videos, other than that i watch the youtube stream vods alot

Jordy_La_Forge

I wouldn't mind if there was no youtube videos I would miss them but I completely understand that youtube is awful. I'm here because I love you, and the team, as people and your values. I support you because your content is great fun and makes me laugh and because you're all great people worth supporting

Nile Baker

As much as I enjoy your videos, they’re no longer the main reason I’m supporting you on here - I know I’ll always be a fan of whatever you create, so as long as you’re enjoying what you’re doing, I’ll be here!

Tristan Stubbs

I think I still appreciate the youtube videos, but the twitch streams and extra stuff are nice too.

Jellex

If you would no longer make regular videos to focus on other stuff I would be happy with that, but I would be even happier if we still got the occasional special video, like a road trip, messing around with Matt and Jon, slideshow about a terrible phone game or whatever silly amazing thing you will inevitably think of. Either way I am happy to be here just to listen to you talk about random stuff.

POM

I'd be sad, but I've known it was coming for a long time (who hasn't?). Though I'm pretty certain you'll always have my support no matter what, but I really hope that I can keep watching streams back later, cause I'm in Aus I rarely ever get to see them live. Also would hope the podcasts continue, it would be like losing a friend if you and Rebecca didn't let us into your lives.

I'm a patron because I love your content period - I think the podcasts are some of my favourites! On that note - Fuck yeah doctor who does star trek discovery???? Please???

matt harris

The primary reason I'm a patron is because I love your amazing youtube videos. If you were to release fewer of them (once or twice a month) I'd be ok with that if they were high quality and had matt's excellent editing.

Aidan Solomon

I pay for the Patreon mainly for your amazing youtube videos. I'd love it if there were less of them, but you released shorter and higher quality ones. I know that might not be what you want to hear, but it's the primary reason I'm here.

Aidan Solomon

I personally enjoy the shorter form content on YouTube, I don’t often have time to watch long videos since I’m either at school or at work and the most I can do is listen to a podcast or watch half an hour of YouTube before bed

Darenax

Hello from New Zealand, I for one would miss YouTube, I never watch Twitch or Livestreams.

Dodger-nzl

This took a bit of thinking to answer. I can't say I wouldn't miss the YouTube videos and not notice their absence. But - and I did think this through - I'm first and foremost here for you as a person and a creator. I've followed you for so long now that it's almost second nature to have you around, whatever form that may take. I barely ever catch the streams, I'm just not a livestream kind of person as I prefer to watch stuff at my own pace and often bit by bit. I listen to these podcasts and watch all your videos. I've read and listened to your book, and I've supported and thus pre-ordered the next one. The more I thought about this the more I realised that the YouTube channel has become just one piece of the whole and that I understand how you feel and know the need to move on. The channel had a solid run and the old stuff isn't going anywhere (apart from the possible platform swap(s)). Moving on could be very healthy, and like you said, would give way more time to your other projects. Again, I'd genuinely miss the channel, but luckily there are still a solid cast of upcoming new generation of channels (e.g. Let's Game It Out). So, in the end, whatever you choose to do, I'll support it and be there to follow along like I always have.

Samppa Alatalo

If you want to stop the main channel could we get a Nerd3 company podcasts with Rebecca and Matt, guests etc? I love listening to the group of you just chat it helps get through work and anxiety lows.

But im here to back you on anything you do

Sean

Like others I don't tend to have the time for streams so love having 1 video a week to watch! But you must do what makes you happy as they say! :)

Matt G

Id genuinely would miss the YouTube vedios

Sean

I'm here for you, but I do ever so love the videos. I don't have time for twitch most of the time, so videos are much more my speed

Will ''The Button King'' Harding

I don't have the time to watch the streams, as much as I want to, so I only watch the YouTube videos and listen to the podcasts. With that said, life is too short to be doing something you don't enjoy. I will definitely miss the YouTube videos if you stop, but I'll keep my Patreon subscription to support everything else you're doing!

This is the first time I've heard someone mention Mad Dogs, quite a good show from what I remember though it's been years since I've seen it

Honestly if you did 1 video a week and more doctor who podcasts I'd stay but I'd rather you not completely drop YouTube.

Curtis

As much as I love the videos on the main channel, I'd still support you if they were gone. The streams are great, even though I mostly just watch the VODs on YouTube (which for me doesn't make much of a difference compared to watching live), I love the podcasts, and there are so many videos already there, I'd probably just watch through them over and over again, to be honest.

Magical Wendy

Always use a spirit level when hanging stuff on the wall, because whoever built your house probably didn't...

Its tricky. I like the videos, 20-30 minutes of Dan being a prat once or twice a week is good. I can rarely catch a stream and watching them back isn't the same, they're long and I don't have that kind of time. I'll still be engaged in Dan's other projects and whats a pound a month to support someone I genuinely admire so I'm not going to cancel patreon. And I'd still listen too these podcasts too. But the thing is I don't want Dan to run himself into the ground I want him too be happy.

Nathan Malaney

I'm just here to support what you do, maybe as long as the streams are uploaded to YouTube because I can't always catch them live but I'm here to support whatever you do

Nicolas Baker

Honestly.. You’ve helped me through some difficult times and this is the least I can do for all of that... also I love hearing your opinion on things so the podcasts are always something I look forward to.

Amber Jansen

With streams, book, and stuff like the podcast, given that youtube is now a smaller proportion of content I wouldn't mind if it went. As long as there were more streams to offset it. Some of your 'best moments' in recent years have come in streams so perhaps to keep Matt occupied and help smooth the transition economically stream highlights videos on the channel would be good. I get the impression Matt is enjoying editing at the moment, and I remember you saying the GTA vulcan highlights video, for example, getting good feedback. But like others, I'm happy with whatever you make, and when you make what you enjoy the quality shows.

I do prefer the scripted content. Twitch streams are, for me, too chaotic and generally too long. I like “quick” videos. That being said I loved your book and looking forward to PP so I would at least continue to buy your books!

Shaun McAlister

I really enjoy the scripted content, but at the same time... I’m here for content you produce. Honestly, I enjoy most of your other stuff too. I may not be able to watch it as well, and I may still enjoy the scripted stuff more, but that kinda doesn’t matter if you feel worse in making that kind of stuff. Killing yourself to make content makes the content worse, and I’d rather you make things you want.

I would really miss the videos, I've been watching since before the corkboard channel background and your videos were a huge influence for me growing up.

Aidan Hughes

I'd be disappointed to see the videos end, but I've been watching them for scarily close to as long as you've been making them, and nothing can go on forever. I'd probably keep supporting for a while since the podcasts are pretty good and it's not an outrageous amount of money.

Jav

I also like the streams cus as nice as chat is, it very disengaging when you aren't there E.G. during a VOD. The videos are the only thing that give us the single performance focus. Just you and your vision (and matt editing sure) but with streams you miss out to that cus you doing a live performance

Stellar Star

While I do enjoy the Youtube videos, I'm here on Patreon for the Podcast and I support your streams with Prime. So I'd be... Kind of sad to see the videos stop? But I'd still be supporting you. The only problem with streams is how long they can be. So if the channel was reduced to stream highlights that would be fine too. But in the end I'm supporting you either way.

Dylan Parry

I really like the videos, but making them needs to work for you. If you've been playing with the idea of leaving YouTube for so long, then that's very indicitive. I've stopped by streams from time to time, subbed between you, Rebecca, and Matt, but in almost all instances, streams are only interesting if you're engaged with them (I reckon), i.e. in the chat, and the chat is just another conversation I'm kinda left out on the side of, and I really can't be taking them any more between my former best friend and sister, and any other conversations. I generally look at it, conclude I don't really have a place to fill there, and close it to a video... I'm by myself, but that's how I live; in the credits song from When Marnie Was There. But I digress, and probably typing to myself. Glad you're back, though, and hope you're doing well. I tend to walk (generally to Tesco) to your podcasts, and it really brightens the whole thing and gets me off my arse, too.

Michael Edmonston

I really love the podcasts & it's genuinely why I joined your Patreon as I listen to them while driving. I Twitch Prime sub to you each month too. I'm not overly interested in watching videos early, but I do treat them like a weekly TV series & watch them more intently then I would a twitch stream which I'd have on while doing work (excluding the Masterchef which are glorious). I'd personally be disappointed if the videos go but I would stay Twitch Prime & Patreon subbed regardless :)

Matthew Clark

I've loved the YouTube videos for years and still do, but like others have said it's important to do what you enjoy. The stream videos are great too, as long as they continue to be viewable after the livestream I'll be very happy, as I often watch them afterwards on the YouTube channel.

I'm here for stuff you create, and for the stuff you say! Whether that's videos, streams, books, bespoke erotic Brewster X Blathers fanfiction (just a suggestion), a small cake decorating business, whatever you do I'll be following and chucking my couple of quid a month at it. Do what you wanna do, you've done more than enough for us!

Kai

if you asked a year or 2 ago i would have said no but now the content is so good especially the news videos. But to be honest i support simply for this podcast so ill stay no matter what.

Tim Wiles

Yep, like everyone else I've cared about the channel in the past. But now, I'm very much in it for the twitch streams (+ podcats Dan). The MasterChef watch parties are turning out especially well ;)

I probably would care Dan but would support u anyways

Morgan

I've been watching your YouTube content for a very long time now, but honestly as long as you're doing something creative that you're enjoying, and we get to be a part of it in some way, I'll be happy with it. I've loved the streams, the book, the Toys videos, etc. just as much as the main channel content. If I really miss it that much, there're still a few thousand videos on the channel to watch.

Alan Hardman

Honestly it's gotten to the point where I watch the videos early because Patreon sends me the email and I just watch them habitually, with these podcasts and the streams now (which obviously weren't really a thing a few years ago) I feel you're putting enough stuff out there that I probably wouldn't miss them a huge amount because I could just watch a stream or something. So to sum up I'd say go for it, you do so much now why the hell not.

your main channel videos are always going to have a special place in my heart, they've helped me through a lot, but ultimately its you two that keep me coming back, you and rebecca are just the most incredible people and as long as you're happy, and i can keep supporting you in any way i can ill be more than happy with anything you want to do :)

Matthew coggon

I do love the videos but if its not working for you then i'm still going to be here supporting you. love catching the streams when i can and this podcast every(most) weeks. Already planning my 2nd reread of Fuck yeah video games for early next year. I would think that maybe some nicely edited stream videos could be nice instead of the regular videos if they go. I dont mean a video for every stream, but more like Soviet Woble does with pulling together clips from many streams into the best bits edited together nicely. could just be one every now and again when the content is there. Maybe even make them a patreon exclusive to bring more people into supporting you here.

To answer your question, Dan. Why am I here? I am here for two big reasons. To support you, because I genuinely care, and for the podcast(s)/occasional posts. Live streams have never done it for me. I’ll watch the occasional one but it’s not often, and not for very long. I follow plenty of streamers but rarely watch anything they do, yourself included, unfortunately. I am, however, also one of the 4 000 people who don’t watch your videos early. I always watch them, but I often watch them on YouTube because I spend a lot of time there and will see it pop up. I’ll see the notification that you’ve done a new video from Patreon but if I’m not in a position to watch it immediately, and in the mood to, then I’ll forget. So, the reasons I’m on Patreon is to support and the occasional bonus. Why I follow you, in general, is because of the videos. If I watch a stream it’ll often be a vod, which will be watched on YouTube while I play a game or something. Like I said, love the occasional stream, but I rarely actually watch one live, even if I am in a position to do so, which isn’t always the case. And since I mentioned the videos I should say I am loving them! Rarely one goes by without a proper laugh from me. I think they’re better than ever, and while the older stuff has a sort of nostalgic charm to them, and there are some stellar videos in the “archives” the stuff you put out now is fantastic and I would be very sad to see it go. I hope this has been informative.

Batcat

I can't watch the streams because of work and I've been enjoying your videos since the Minecraft days! But if it's bad for your mental health then for the love of all things just stop!

Jazzy Senpai

I understand the mess that youtube has become but personally i really enjoy the youtube videos and the streams. The videos are a nice kind of break from life and i guess it's also a bit of nostalgia since i've been loving your videos for around 7 years.

Bradley Manson

I really like your main channel videos (also love the toys vids). Especially as I miss streams and don't always have time to watch them when you stream, or they're too long as I've other things to do. They're too long to casually watch back. What would work is using youtube for stream highlights. That would be a nice compromised for me.

I love your videos, they're how i first found you so they will always have a special place in my heart and whenever you release a new video I'm excited for it. You always express exactly how you feel about them, so they're a breath of fresh air from the normal shit. But if you should decide to quit those videos are still there. So do what you'd feel more confident with.

Chester

As someone who has subbed on twitch, bought your books and is now here, I'd be okay with videos ending. I watch pretty much every video, but I prefer streams because I prefer seeing you play something and talk rather than seeing your edited highlights and jokes. The things I'd really miss if the videos went is the Nerdcubed show, collabs and big event things like Desert Bus, the Podcats road trip, the Podcats themselves, the 25 games that defined the decade, and your top 100 games.

BobertoBobert

Obviously I’d be sad but if you genuinely aren’t having fun with YouTube I’d still continue to support you here and on stream and stuff. I honestly think I’d miss the show videos the most but whatever you want to do is good

Abi_kirrin

i don’t watch vids on here that often because they seldom play on here for whatever reason so i really like youtube. if you got rid of the main channel would you still post the live streams? because i can’t catch them a lot of the time so i like to watch them there

id be gutted to see you leave youtube but its whats best for you what matters so if you think that leaving is best then go for it

Jack Jones

You are my favourite content creator of all time. If you decide to stop the main channel I will try to catch streams but I never seem to be able to catch them. I hope you at least decide to not quit the main channel full time and just do videos rarely but if you decide to quit I will still support you.

Joel

I would definitely miss the YouTube videos if they stopped. The only reason I don't tend to watch them early is because it's just easier for them to turn up in my subsrciptions and add them to my Watch Later list. I like to watch the stream VODs in the background while I do other stuff, but the edited videos I sit down and watch and enjoy them. Obviously, put yourself first. But yeah, I still enjoy the videos :)

Jack Parkin

If you continue streaming and uploading VODs to youtube then I'm all for quitting the main channel. Especially if it'll help your health.

Binxx

if you like daisy may you should watch this country its a comedy mocumentary written by her and her brother and both star in it its on bbc iplayer and its quite funny

Jack Jones

personally, if you quit youtube, obviously it would be lowkey odd but i could easily get used to it. im completely fine with it just be streams because i prefer watching longer bits of content and twitch streams are 2-3 hours long. plus youtube is a bit of a shit hole and you are 90% of the reason i watch Youtube so i dont mind what you do. my opinon doesnt matter but yeah

Ben Green

im here purely to hear what you’re up to man

Mia Rolfe

On the one hand I want to say: "You do you. If you want to concentrate on writing or writing scripts or whatever else, just do it" On the other hand I still love your youtube channel. I'm subscribed to dozens of channels but every time you upload a video it makes my day. So while I'm gonna consume anything you create (that sounds more sinister than it is meant to be) I'd love it if you kept the channel alive.

Welf Garkisch

Honestly I wouldn't be happy if the main channel stopped, because I really do enjoy your edited plays videos. I also never catch streams, something about live content doesn't appeal to me loads, I'm more of a stream highlights kind of person. That being said I enjoy these podcasts and like to support the stuff you enjoy doing

Diarmaid Ó Braonáin

Hey Dan, I think that I'd be happy to just have the steams, would just need to make myself go over to twitch to watch them as I normally forget to. Unfortunately work means that I doubt I'll make it to them often, but I do still love watching you and your content. Really glad you're feeling better though, have been watching your videos from nearly the very start of the channel.

I really do love your youtube videos, and rarely have time to commit to streams. I'll support you with whatever you do, but I would really miss em and probably wouldn't watch much of your stuff any more. Maybe gently edited streams?

Stan Gaskell

I'll be honest, I like your channel, but I'm mostly here to listen to you so if you were elsewhere I don't really care if it's not youtube and if it makes you feel better go for it!

Follow your heart Daniel. It'd be a sad day to not see a YouTube notification for one of your videos as you are the best creator on there, but if it is filling up too much of your time. Then you should go to the other medias. From previous podcast episodes it seems like you and youtube have had a very toxic relationship recently. Nothing is permanent. This would just be the end of an era

Rhys connell

Writing this makes me feel like a bit of a knob really, so Appologies for sounding like one and complaining! That said, I'll never catch a stream live, just doesn't work for me. I watch the VODs sometimes, but primarily it's the videos and podcasts that I'm in it for. I'm Into the books, for sure, but they're not exactly regular. I really don't know if I'd stick around patreon if content I care for more or less stops. Again, not trying to sound like I'm giving orders, because I can clearly hear in your voice how much happier you are after nuking the YouTube videos. That was a good thing! But, you did ask I guess :s

Your Name Here

Honestly, I'm here for whatever you feel like doing. I do enjoy the videos, but firstly I'm not even sure they're my favourite thing you do any longer, and secondly if YOU aren't enjoying them then I'd much rather support you in doing something else. You said something in this podcast about funny people finding it funny being so much better when you were talking about taskmaster, and I fully agree with you; and in that sense, I'd always rather you were doing something you enjoyed, because I think it will be more enjoyable as a result. Either way, no, I'm not here for the videos. I'm here mostly because I want to help support you, and partly for the hours of you rambling into a phone about whatever comes into your head. Oh yeah, and Fuck Yeah Doctor Who.

Well Read Nomad

I rarely make it to streams. I'd be really sad if you never did an edited video again because there are some games where the first thing I think is 'I can't wait to see Dan fuck with this'. But if it became really infrequent and just for special occasions that'd be good by me.

Dylan Evans

I rarely make it to streams, YouTube videos and podcasts are the only ones I make a point to watch.

Yorkshire Chef

Hey Dan, you are sounding so much happier and healthier than last time, it cracks me up. I am here mostly for the videos, it’s what got me to support you. I love the writing you have been doing and these podcasts are fun, but I don’t think you could manage not making videos. I reckon that after three months of no videos you will have an idea that haunts you until it’s a video bookended by your logo. I never got the early release schedule for videos, because you’d just end up waiting another week to watch the next, so I usually watch them in the order they show up in my subscriptions. By the way, have you seen the new Spitting Image series? I think they’ve nailed the designs and the comedy’s very good.

Jord Bijker

I would not like if you stopped the main channel. I'd rather you do it as and when, a few fun videos when you feel like it. I'd miss it for sure if it was gone. I don't watch streams at all.

Mike Jones

Streams are super long and fucking boring imo. So sad to hear you're quitting, you are the only entertaining gaming youtuber i know of. I

Honestly, I’m most invested in twitch, podcasts and books. If you changes it up and did more regular twitch streams instead of YouTube, I would be very happy

Jamie Williams

Hi dan, I have loved your videos for many many years and it would be very sad to see you leave youtube, however I understand the reasons and I know there have been up and downs and the videos lately have been fantastic. I struggle to watch your streams as my internet is not the best for twitch but if voids continued to be uploaded that would make me happy!! An occasional toys or main channel video would be nice and little bits and pieces for us patreons like these podcasts or the dr who ones I really love. Your health and well-being is the most important thing and as much as it will end a big part of my life as you’ve helped me through lots of shit, I completely understand and would send you all the best and luck for the future!! Even though we would hopefully still hear regularly from you about what’s happening cause I really do love listening to how things are going on with you! Stay safe and look after yourselves (you and Rebecca and all the animals)! Leon x

Leon Allen

Hey Dan, I haven't been a patron for long in fact I only just subscribed on Twitch recently as well since Covid has actually put me in a far more financially stable position than I have ever been in (commentary on the benefits of a universal basic income...) so I don't know how much longer I can donate, anyway I have been watching your content for years on Youtube and I have watched your humour and content evolve over time and it has had a really positive impact on my life. Your channel has been such a bright spot in my life and I will be sad to see it go, and while that is the truth and seems to echo what everyone else is saying, it isn't the whole truth. It isn't really the channel that has brought everyone together, it is you, hell you could record vertical videos of yourself slagging off shitty people in the world and upload to vimeo on a random schedule and I think we would follow you there. I don't speak for everyone but I hope we can all agree that we love you and your content in whatever form it takes, especially when it is content that YOU love doing. You have taught me that it is ok and even sometimes necessary to start over with things, that deleting old things is not spitting in the face of progress, it IS progress, whether that is deleting entire books worth of notes to try something new or even acknowledging past wrongs (speaking personally here) and throwing the old you in the bin (again speaking about myself) and moving forward but on a new path. I've been rambling here but I hope you read this, the point I am trying to make is that you have been so impactful on so many lives and I will support you in any way I can, even if it is just watching your content and lurking like a gremlin in the comments, I look fondly on the past and wish you the best for the next stage of your career as a funny internet man with floofy hair. I am with you all the way!

I'd be very sad if you quit YouTube having grown up with those videos as a comfort blanket persay but I'd still definitely support you, would definitely like to see at least a few big specials with Matt and Jon every few months

Omari Antony

Hi Dan, glad you're getting on top of the lack of drug addiction! So for me I'd be very sad to see no more new Youtube videos, but that's only because it would mean an end to the last 8 years of enjoyment they have brought me, so just purely selfish reasons! But sentimentality aside, it's all going to me grand as the streams will remain, woo!! I prefer the streams I think as it's "live" and we can enjoy your comedic brain in real time, and sometimes Rebecca chips in too which is fab! I don't watch the videos you currently do early as I'd have to on my phone and I'd rather wait 24 hours to watch them on my massive tv. I do however miss the random chance of having a notification that "dan is live" and dropping everything and watching a cheeky stream as opposed to waiting for each sunday to come around (it's peak motorsport season at that time, soz). I very much to joining you in taking a month off next month to watch your leisurely playthroughs of AC Valhalla and Watchy Dogs, that's gonna be so cool!! I'd love more toys channel, could be on anything, I just miss your face! And will there ever be a time where we can download your videos for offline viewing?! Thanks for your last 10 years of content, I can keep myself happily entertained for many an hour, hope you like the new wallpaper and please boop the snoot for me too! Much love.

Richard Grayson

So to start, even if you stopped doing YouTube videos I'd still support you, I love everything you do, from the podcasts to the streams (when I have time to watch them, usually on VOD) to your writing that I'll always support you. That being said, if you did decide to stop doing YouTube videos I'd be really sad, simply because they have been such a big part of my life for so long, but at the same time I'd completely understand and the fact that you'd still be doing streams so we'd still be getting some gaming content from you makes me feel a bit better about it. Ultimately like I said at the beginning, whatever you chose to do, I'll follow you and continue to support you.

Hi I’ve been a fan since I was oh about nine, and I just wanted to say I have stuck around for 8-7 years now, I am just one guy and I haven’t even been a patron for very long but the sum cost fallacy has set in by now and there is no chance I am leaving! On a more serious note, your videos have quite literally been the background noise to a major portion of my developmental years, I will hate to see them go but in the end I will hate to watch videos I know you hated making, so do what you must just keep letting us as viewers see you and experience your personality.

I love the streams, but I rarely make it to them and usually don’t have the time to watch them in full. The videos and podcasts are the only ones I watch as soon as they’re out, and they’ve been the highlight of every week for the past decade. But I’m even more excited to see you do books and films, so if you feel like making less videos would help you, then by all means please do. I’ll keep supporting you regardless of what you decide.

ICE Trance

I am here to support you, and if you decide to quit Youtube I will continue to do so. That said, I will always drop what I'm doing (if possible) and watch the newest video. Your Youtube videos have been highlights of my day for the past 9 years, and I agree that right now videos are very good. In my opinion, you're in the TNG Blue-Rays of the channel (seriously, I've mapped this out and your channel lines up very well with Star Trek series). So maybe you should stop before you reach your Discovery phase, but unlike with Discovery I will continue to watch until your last Youtube video. I believe you should do what you think is best for you and your work. I will still watch streams, read books, and consume any other content you produce, but I won't deny that I will miss Youtube videos if you stop.

DaximiousCMV

Dan your back yay!

DapperCyborg

I do really enjoy your videos; you're the only youtuber I make an actual effort to watch. Having said that, I supported Patreon for the podcasts and the early videos. I would still stick around as long as the podcasts did.

Leila Harrison

I don’t watch the videos early because I couldn’t work out how to get them to play on my TV and watching them on my phone sucks. I will absolutely miss the videos. I have trouble getting into the streams because either I miss them live because of shift work, or sitting down to watch a hour and a half plus long video is really difficult a lot of the time for me. Also, rewatching them is never as good as the live watching, interacting with everyone involved. If you got to do it, then by all means stop the videos, I’m a big boy, I’ll get over it.

Thomas N Wyndham

hi! im here to support you! i sure aint here for the patreon podcasts as much as id like to be bcs im always behind on em. this is an exception obviosuly. nd i watch a video early when im in the mood. so yeah do what u want but also, i do like ur youtube videos. an archive of em somewhere else would be cool though

elis one l

I've been watching your videos for 8 years now (hi I'm one of the thousand that watches early) but if you quit YouTube I would absolutely still be here to support you - your judgement on when to change has always proved well and I'd be excited to see what the future brings. I think the livestreams have become one of the real highlights of what you do and the community is incredible, not to mention how excited we all are for the paradox paradox! I'm just speaking for myself here, I really love the videos, but they're not the reason I'm here - I'm here because you've been a big part of my life and consistently created things that have been important to me (videos, livestreams, nerdcubed community, FYVG, podcasts etc) and I will continue to support you in whatever you create for as long as you're creating things! Thank you for everything you do (so take my money pls <3 <3)

Toni Santoyo McLeod

I love your content and it’s been part of my Life for years now. It would be very sad to see it go, and I do not have the time to watch streams, so it would most likely be the end of me watching your content. Although I will continue to support you, other people in my position won’t choose to do the same as me. keep that in mind when you make your decision. To be honest if you had the streams cut down a little and posted that would keep me around. The only reason why I think most people would leave if the YouTube videos leave is because they don’t have the time to watch full streams.

Wyatt Aker

Personally for me I really really like your videos but the be all and end all I am here for you and your personality so if you focus on streams. Hey, I'll watch them instead and I assume there podcasts will survive which I love

I'm here for you in general, in any form. But I do like the youtube videos because I find it hard to make it to/stick around the streams.

I do like your videos a lot but this podcast is what I’m mostly here for, as well as your books of course.

I'm mostly here for the videos and the podcast, so I would be sad to see them end. But honestly, my enjoyment of the videos has always been linked to your enjoyment in making them, so do whatever makes you happy. During the 8 or so years I'v been watching the channel I've lost interest a few times, usually right before you decided to reboot the channel. After that I would go back to watching every video as it came out and really enjoy them again. So whatever you do that you find enjoyment in, I will also be enjoying. Be that books, videos, or whatever else.

Ties van Asseldonk

I'm one of the thousand that watches (almost) every video early, however I just see it as a bonus for supporting you. So if you quit youtube, or just do a video a month/year, I would be slightly sad because of less content, but also really hyped for the projects you are working on! As long as you keep posting podcasts and/or updates on patreon, and finish your projects (and starting more after), I will consume all of them to my hearts content. Because to be honest I'd probably never stop supporting/throw money at your general direction because of all the hard work, dedication, and love you have given us over the years. On a whole different note, that would make you equivalent in my life to nintendo, a company I also give money to in return for joy. Tldr; I love your stuff so I'll support you for at least 20 more years <3

I've been a fan of you and the channel for so long now that even if you stopped everything relating to video games content (streams, videos etc) I would continue to support you here on Patreon. However, I will definitely miss your videos on the main channel since they've been a part of my life for 8 years now. I fear that the community you have built over the last 10 years would gradually die out if the videos stopped coming so even fortnightly or monthly videos would be a great way to keep your subscribers interested (kind of like what UpIsNotJump does on his channel). But in the end it is your decision and I will support you either way. As long as you produce any kind of stuff (be it livestreams, books, videos, games, or other) I'm sure I'll be happy.

Filip 'PhilTheDead' Kwasniewski

I watch every video, maybe not as soon as it comes out but as soon as I get the time. I know they will be entertaining and funny. I great way to get a short burst of humour. I tend to miss the livestreams and they tend to be too long for me anyway. I wouldn't hold you down to keeping the channel alive if you didn't want to but it would be sorely missed by me. If you could find another way of giving short humorous entertainment between books, then it would be win win for me.

UnSafeStu

think you meant to say no on that second one lol. but i whole heartedly agree with you. I LOVE Dan's videos and it would be strange not to see him upload. Even if the videos are just once a week or every couple of weeks. His channel has been 'dead' for a while. but i still wait for every upload and get excited to watch.

Albie Emery

30:25 I'm writing a screenplay while listening to this, and literally the main protagonist is called Derek WTFFFF. Side note: he's not an alien so we good

Albie Emery

I feel a good compromise would be a monthly video, that way you would only need to put 12 hours or so a year into youtube so you wouldnt be held back creativly as you would have far more time to focus on other projects while keeping your youtube channel alive and lowering the possibllity of loseing too many patrons to damage your income. Sidenote under this sytem you could record 12 videos in a week at the start of the year.

AtticSalt

I like the videos because they are shorter and I don't always have time to watch through the VODs of livestreams (let alone catch them live). So I have to watch livestreams selectively, but I watch every video that comes out on the main channel. I would rather see you do what you want, than to keep the videos; but they will be missed. Maybe jump on MATNs channel every once in a while? Mess around in whatever game he is trying to take seriously. Do what is best for your family and career and I will be waiting to see what you can do. Although if this PP nonsense doesn't live up to the hype I'm outta here. /s

My decision to be here was because of your Sonic 06 playthrough. Giving a Silver lining and all that. Once you retire from Youtube, I'll still donate but I'll lower it to $1 and leave it as passive support.

Dragmire

I Would Still Support You, Videos or not

BMK1571

I'll be quite honest, I watch every video you put out and have for most of the last decade. I'll definitely miss them if you do stop - I do really enjoy the streams too but often don't catch them, so I end up watching the VOD. But if you want to stop videos to do what you want to pursue creatively, I feel like I shouldn't have say in that because it's what's best for you that you decide - it's entirely how you feel comfortable! I would definitely miss if you went away from an online presence completely, though. The NerdCubed community is so lovely and I'm a little fearful that it'd fizzle out without, well, NerdCubed. But it's your plans and your creative decisions so you have that control, and if there's still content in some form I'll probably still try and support in some way if I can! ...that was a lot of words. Why can't I have this many words come to me when I'm trying to write things?! :(

Riley

Im here to support what you do as i enjoy it all, though i will say my favourites are the podcasts, videos and streams. However if you feel like its time to rap up on the videos then i will stll be supporting you!

Purple Disarray

I would miss your plays YouTube videos. but I don't really want to hold you back from you doing what you want. I also think you would come back eventually. Personally, I hated most of your videos when you did the hell videos, and whenever you had less freedom to do what you want. My guess is when you quit YouTube, you will still do videos here and there when you genuinely feel like it. and that will make them epic videos. and other stuff you do will be epic as well. I love your book, its one of my favorite things to read. and I am really excited to read P P (lol) . So go do what you want. I won't stop supporting you. i will also be buying all of your books and anything else epic you make for sale.

Aaron Ortega

I always watch your content early btw

Alyssa Gordon

im gonna really really miss your youtube videos if you stop. You've been a part of my life and something ive watched and looked forward to every release for 9 years. I subscribed to let you do your thing because thats what i love about you, your willingness to jump in to that cold pool. Your content has been a major part of my life and man i am so bad at watching twitch streams especially since its at like 4 am my time lol but I'll stick with you no matter what. I'm a really big fan and i just want you to be happy. Do i want you to keep making youtube videos? yes. Will i stop supporting you if you quit? yes. I want you to have your creative freedom and I want you to have that want to create content and not like you have to.

Alyssa Gordon

As for your question: If you keep streaming I wouldn't miss YouTube videos. As long as you keep the (un)official stream archive on YouTube to watch VODs.

Vincent van Breukelen

I know you've never done a commentary track but I think doing the Sonic movie as your first and then probably last would be amazing, especially if you haven't watched it before.

kai Nolan

I'm here to support you through whatever content you make because you're easily my favorite creator on the internet, and have been since i started going on the internet back in 2012. I'll be sad about there not being anymore videos, but with twitch, the books, and the podcasts, i know I'll still keep supporting.

Don't feel too bad about buying from Amazon, Dan. There's no ethical consumption under capitalism. It's perfectly valid to be critical of Amazon not paying tax and their terrible worker conditions while also purchasing things that you need to live your life from them. Personal boycotts never solved anything. You do what is best for you!

Vincent van Breukelen

I will miss the videos if they stop but it's been 10 years which is a long time. It's been a good run but if you feel like you want to stop I'm sure the community will understand. You should definitely go out with a bang and do the holy grail of videos for the last one!

Jack (Chat Cast) Bantock

On the final topic, I'm one thst watches early, but also if it even only went to podcasts and the occasional titbit I'd be more than happy to stick around.

Nathan Kirby

Hey Dan, did you see the news about how the UK gov threw out a poll on trans rights stuff cus "it was scewd because it was too in favour of trans people" (I'm here to support Rebecca and the pets, you being here too is just a coincidence)
