Update: Album Artwork/Board Game Work in Progress!

Dearest patrons!

I hope this message finds you all well. Just a quick note to thank you all for your continued support here on Patreon.

Here's an update on what I've been up to here in Montreal. The morning hours are spent working on the album artwork. And the after hours are spent in the recording studio adding final touches and refining the mixes of the tracks. The rest of day we're in quarantine hanging with the kids and watching Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.

The painting you see here is the inside of the gatefold 2LP cover.  So when you open the record it will fold out and BAM! you've got your very own Creatures board game!

I've been using your pledges to buy paint and other art supplies to finish working on the album artwork!  The game board is almost complete!

It's taken several days/nights and LOTS of DOTS!  But I would say it's pretty close!

You'll notice there are some rectangular spaces around the perimeter of the game track such as "FLEA MARKET" "STUDIO TIME" "APARTMENT PARTY" etc. These are for the game cards that will also be included with the album artwork.

In the game you will collect bizarre recording devices from the Flea Market, and also meet various musician/creatures (say a bass-playing Sloth or a Manta Ray vocalist) at the "APARTMENT PARTY".  Eventually when you have collected 1 recording device, 1 instrument and assembled the necessary personnel to create your "impossible band", you're able to create a song using your "STUDIO TIME".  Makes sense, no?  But in order to do that, you'll need the 2 other main ingredients to make a song, namely, EMOTION! and Life Experience. Those things you'll pick up from the "LIFE EXPERIENCE" card deck when you land on certain spaces. Those life experiences will also determine what type of song your "impossible band" will write.  Ballad, Work Out Song, Theme Song, Love Song, Break Up Song... etc.

There will also be:

STARING CONTESTS - where you battle other players for their cards (to an audio staring timer track on the vinyl)

SWAP MEETS - where you can trade cards with other players

and a DIG TIME "memory game" in the middle of the board in order to gain more life experience cards.

For those of you who aren't DJs, finding double copies is sort of a thing in the scratch world, so I thought it would be fun to include that conceptually in the game somehow.  Plus, I've been playing memory with the kids since they were 2 years old and it's still a game we all still enjoy.

It probably all sounds a bit complicated but don't worry it's FUN!  Remember when I tried to explain/describe the Nufonia Live show?? This will make much more sense when you have the board game and game cards all set up in front of you.

So that's the next step!  I'm going to start painting the character and flea market game cards this weekend.  (There are about 80 of them to do.)  I'll be painting those on these 18 x 24 canvases.  (they are the blank ones on the left of the WIP creature canvases)

Anyhow!  That's about it here! Slowly but surely moving it forward. One quarantine day at a time...

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

For those of you in the Singapore Time Zone, we're hosting two Virtual Robot House Parties on Saturday and Sunday.

Also, It's nice to see some of you on the patron-only DISCORD server sharing some laughs, projects, snacks and wax!

Thanks again for joining us here!  Take care everyone!

I would say it's mostly inspired from reading storybook records when I was a kid! Each record would have a 24 page book with words and illustrations. It was so wonderful to have a record to play while reading along with the story. Hearing all the music, sound effects and narration gave it so much dimension. It was like a whole little universe I could happily get lost into!

Although this is something that Kid Koala is known for, It's so exciting to see a physical album that we could interact with physically. Not just a barcode that you can scan to a website. Is there a particular album that inspired you to start making physical copies of your album more interactive? Like the cardboard turntable!

Hey Deneb! Looking forward to getting everything completed to send it to the printers and record pressing plant! E

Great Job! I have enjoyed watching it all come together, it is looking absolutely amazing. I may have peed myself a little thinking about new music and a game!
