Field Trip! Dancing on the Holodeck! Work In Progress!

Hello Dear patrons! 

Today was extra fun as I got to go on a field trip to Solotech to check out their XR, AR testing lab.  

I'm currently collaborating with Silent Partners Studios to create some dance performance videos for some of the new tracks from the Creatures Of The Late Afternoon album.  

We got to visit Solotech's XR stage lab to see how some of the tech works. They showed us how the cameras can track in 3D virtual space!  It's basically like having a Star Trek-style Holodeck! 

The XR stage consists of LED screens (floor and walls) that can be mapped/animated in real time with any image.   ** Note ** the image of this talk show room is just some generic image library that they showed us to see how the stage/space works.  Also, the screens Solotech will set up for our shoot will be higher-resolution than the ones you see here capable of a more photorealistic quality.

We're still finalizing the concept for the video but generally speaking, I'll be running, dancing, driving, surfing, through a bunch of different environments that will be inhabited by my creatures.  It'll be a fun and cartoon-y romp through the music! 

Here's what the set up looked like today, although I think we are talking of reconfiguring the screens to better suit the wider shots we're looking for.  

This is me standing on the LED floor.  I'll have to do most of the dancing in a small area of the stage.  

Silent Partners will be working with me on developing the digital video and motion graphics that will appear on the screens and floor.  The exciting part about XR is how the whole room can drastically shift to really great effect. For instance, we could go to zero gravity or dive  underwater or flip the building upside down on beat.  

Meanwhile, I'll be building a bunch of vehicles out of cardboard. Including a cardboard car, cardboard rowboat, cardboard surfboard, possibly a submarine... still figuring it all out.  But the cardboard is here! They're big 4' x 8' x 1" honeycomb sheets. We use this 1" honeycomb for more structural builds and props due to it's incredible strength and load bearing properties.

I'll also be dancing in a few different creature suits which we'll be building in the coming weeks.  One of them will be a lobster x yeti crab.  

Time to get building!  I'll post more updates soon as the designs start coming together!
