Hey Everyone!
Yesterday, I got to check out some of the work in progress shots from Space Cadet at an actual movie theatre!
Ginette Petit (Les Films Outsiders) who is producing the film arranged for a small team of us to view it on an actual film. Not only is it fun to watch it on big screen, it is very useful to see how the animation reacts at this scale. Framerates, focus points, can look/feel quite different than on a desktop monitor (which is what we and the animators mainly use while working on the film.)
Here is the outside of the Cinemathèque it's in downtown Montreal. I've been here to see a few film premieres and film festivals and it's an amazing facility with several screens inside.

Here is a look development shot of a scene that takes place on the beach.

You can see our producer of the film, Ginette Petit in the bottom left corner of the photo!
Here's another look development shot of the sidewalk in the city of Nufonia.

Here's a light test from the rooftop!

FYI, these are not final images. They are just basic lighting and texturing on characters in a space. We will be adding more dramatic and bespoke lighting to scenes if the scene requires it.
I am currently working on directing the animation for each shot in the film, of which there are many (over 900!) But I've been told we are at the halfway point of the production and on track to finish the animation by the end of March. At which point, I will shift gears to audio and finish working on the soundtrack, sound effects and foley with a different team.
It's been a lot of work, but a lot of laughs along the way! And it's so great to see this film growing into itself at every stage.
More updates soon!
Thank you for your continued support!
