long read! Somewhere in Montreal. I’ve been working on what will be my first animated feature film, Space Cadet, with the most wonderful team of artists.

We are deep in the animation stage at the moment. And everyday I am astonished at the level of nuance and sensitivity with which this crew is bringing this story to life.

Click by click. Frame by Frame. Every tiny decision each person makes to help each scene become more poignant, funny, suspenseful or joyous.

It’s such a beautiful adventure to see it come together.

I remember when I was first writing the book, I was spending so much time drawing in solitude. It was several years of work, and an often isolating experience. And if you were to tell me that 15 years later I would be working with large team to turn that book into a film, I probably would not have believed you. And yet, I’m so happy the winding road of life has brought me here to this project.

It feels like animation party! Everyone putting a little bit of their heart into each frame. It’s like a symphony of animation energy happening. The story is now inextricably linked to everyone working on it. It’s like we get to tell a new, more connective story together.

Hard to explain but it truly makes me so happy to see. This is very much a dream come true for me. Space Cadet is evolving into something more than I could have ever imagined! A quick thank you to Les Films Outsiders and Singing Frog Studios for making it possible. It’s a pleasure to have the opportunity to work with such great artists, both old and brand new friends (whom I’ve just met through this production!) My new 3D animation family!

We are still only about halfway through the production but I wanted to let you know it is coming along and I believe it will be a beautiful thing.

I can’t wait for you all to see it at some point in the future
