A trip down memory lane pt. 1: some influential images from my youth

Hi everyone,
My parents just sold their house, home for a big portion of my life. We spent the weekend packing and cleaning up so I snapped a few photos of some things that shaped the artist I am today.

A good example is the wall of the bathroom, a collage of old newspaper engravings done by my mother. Lots of cumulative hours spent on the "the throne" staring at these. No wonder engravings have been such a big influence to my work.

Managed to snag this one for myself.

As you can tell, my family has a taste for classical art (both my parents and grandparents from my fathers side having dealt in antiques professionally at various points).

Most of my comics collection was at the house. Unfortunately I don't have the space to keep it and actually am happy to give it all away. It's good to let stuff go. Most of my job this weekend was to sort it and pack it so it can go to new homes.

The collection is a split of classic French BD from my childhood and the US comics of my teen years. The French comics were passed down from my father to me when I was maybe 5 or 6. Basically learned to read on them.

All these covers are deeply engrained in my subconscious.

As an aside from comics, here's another deeply influential book from my childhood. A book of Russian folktales.

Anyway, I won't bore you with more. It was fun taking a last look into some of the imagery of my childhood. It's interesting to see how it all informed some aspect of what I do today. On the other hand I'm feeling happy to not hold on to every single thing. It's always good to make space for other stuff :). It's the memories that count, as they say.

I also found a ton of old art from yours truly so soon I'll make a follow up post.
Best,
