Added 2018-09-05 16:08:20 +0000 UTCJust re-edited one of my remote camera photos from the recent Parker Solar Probe launch aboard a Delta IV Heavy and tried it as my phone's lock screen. Looks EPIC.
The Delta IV quite literally lights itself on fire. It runs lighter-than-air hydrogen through the engines seconds before launch, which rises up and alongside the vehicle. At engine ignition, some of the denser areas of this free hydrogen ignite and char the orange insulation on the vehicle.
