In that period of my life I spent at least 3 days/evenings at church, spent all summer at a Christian camp in Montana (in my defense I was a white water raft guide, which I loved) and I went to Prairie Bible College. I wasn't thinking, I was young, the tune was "catchy" and I didn't know any better. However I honestly never actually paid any attention to the lyrics or even considered their meaning. TLDR: I used to fucking love the Newsboys.... 😕

2021-08-05 20:20:00 +0000 UTCI absolutely love that you all roasted The Newsboys' "The Breakfast Song"! I remember hearing this on Christian radio as a young teen and loving it. I still own the "Take Me to Your Leader" album on which the song appears, though I was actually introduced to The Newsboys by their 1994 album, Going Public. And I still think that Peter Furler was a kind of Christian Billy Corgan, just not nearly as talented or prolific, but nevertheless not an awful pop music writer.
