Davy shaped her into a weapon, ultimately replacing what he'd lost (in a broad narrative sense and a literal hook hand sense) with his grudge (as in his desire for vengeance against [insert spoiler here] and also his literal pet grudge). Same deal with taking Cody's heart. He's filling voids of loss!
