FIRST TIME WATCHING **THE FIRST OMEN**

Comments

This is my 50th watch and I JUST realized he was looking for the mark on her head when they were dancing in the club. I hate men.

lunarspice

You convinced me with that singing and i had to look up the first song they dance to in the club!

I meant to comment when I first watched this, but...I've ALWAYS had a thing for the catholic aesthetics also. The draping with the robes and head coverings. The cathedrals with the beautiful stained glass windows. There's a queer show called Warrior Nun on Netflix. It's one of my favorites, but the costume design for that show is EVERYTHING. Very worth checking out.

Dear Chat And Comment Peeps, Meant to write this earlier, but there are three films other than the original Omen that this film seems to pay homage to. And they are all good films in their own right. 1) Posession- The scene right after the car accident , where her water breaks and she convulses and thrashes around, before going to the ground, completely taken over by what’s inside her? Well, it instantly reminded me of Isabelle Adjani’s incredible physical acting and performance in this 1981 film. In it, She has her own pre-birthing scene, in a tunnel, and it’s one of the greatest, most committed performances and pieces of acting you will ever witness. Good enough to earn Adjani the best actress award at Cannes that year. Because unlike the nose in the air Oscars, Cannes and the French recognize horror as the legitimate art form that it is. And when it’s brilliant, they actually reward it accordingly (Do NOT get me started on the ahole Academy v. Demi and The Substance. 😡DO NOT). Adjani gives the performance of a lifetime, In what I can only describe as one of the craziest, creepiest, greatest, weirdest and most unsettling films I’ve ever seen: 1981’s Posession. 2) Rosemary’s Baby- For obvious reasons; but the areal shots here are also very reminiscent of those in RB in its’ opening, where the camera is flying over NYC and The Dakota. And of course the theme of women not having autonomy over their own bodies as men make these decisions for them in order to put evil in their tum tum’s is a running theme in both films. 3) The House Of The Devil- David makes reference to this film in his reaction, and I think he’s spot on. Both films are moody and atmospheric, both feature a woman being unknowingly observed and watched at all times by a force or persons that largely remain unseen by them. Until it’s too late. The time periods of both are also closely aligned to the late 60’s early 70’s era, and the devil inseminating some poor girl to give birth to the antichrist is a plot point in both. If you liked The First Omen, it’s worth it to check out these other films if you haven’t yet; if only to spot the inspirations from these earlier works. And hey, you may just like them. 🖤

Rebecca Hopkins

I was too chicken to watch that on my own so this seems more appropriate 🙂‍↕️😅

Tilly

This is by FAR the best Omen Film. It’s got something the others never had- the holy power to scare the 💩 out of you at moments. It’s so unflinching and bold, so coldly, clinically brutal, so well performed and deftly scored, so gothic and creepy, and ultimately so hopeless. It’s why I love it. 🖤😂🤣

Rebecca Hopkins

omg yes he would absolutely gag

Venus

NEED you to watch the Servant on Apple TV. This actress is in it and its so crazy

abby
