2025-10-22 21:30:38 +0000 UTCGreat seeing you have so much fun with this iconic episode Spike’s and Willow and Tara’s songs are probably my favorite, although they’re all amazing, and I always love Giles getting some singing time. An interesting fan theory is that Willow doesn’t have her own confessional song because she doesn’t feel conflicted about anything and believes her excessive and manipulative magic use is justified and helpful.

I don’t typically like musical episodes (love musicals though) but in this they cover SO MUCH in such a short amount of time by going the musical route that it’s def one of my top 5 episodes

Although the demon's power was to dance people to death, both Spike and Dawn seemed worried that Buffy was welcoming the dance. Luckily Spike would rather kiss our suicidal superhero than kill her these days.

2025-08-28 20:13:07 +0000 UTCNo recency bias for me. I’ve seen the show countless times. This is my favorite episode. Since Buffy is my favorite show, this is therefore my favorite tv episode. You caught most of the reasons why this is so brilliant. I really enjoyed rewatching this with you. As others have said watch the accompanying making of. They all did a wonderful job, playing to their strengths. Alyson didn’t want to sing and Joss managed to incorporate that in the musical in the way that would make sense. Willow is a powerful witch. Makes sense that she would be able to resist the spell more than everyone else. Michelle didn’t want to sing either and, as a trained ballet dancer, wanted a dance scene.

2025-08-28 19:49:24 +0000 UTCYes, we're finally at the fun musical episode where Willow sexually assaults Tara (magically wiping her memory means no ability to give informed consent) and Buffy tries to kill herself. I love this episode, it does kind of remind me of one of my favourite musicals (and movies) of all time, Cabaret, where the songs hide a lot of darkness and deeper meanings. The demon, 'Sweet', is also played by the late Hinton Battle. Hinton Battle was a legendary Tony award winning Broadway star and choreographer, who trained under George Balanchine in the American Ballet Theatre, and danced the role of The Scarecrow in the Wiz, before Michael Jackson took the role on in the screen adaptation. His multi dance genre training basically made him a modern day Gene Kelly in terms of his ability to switch between different dance styles in a single performance, brilliant. They dimmed the lights of Broadway in his honour as a memorial when he passed. 2025-08-28 18:18:48 +0000 UTCWhen I was in middle school, I tried so hard to find the songs on limewire and download them to my mp3 player and the quality was so bad. & later on I saw the OMWF CD at Best Buy when I was shopping with my dad and I don’t think I had ever begged for anything more in my entire life! And he told me no because I was already concerningly obsessed with Buffy and never doing my homework because I was always re-watching episodes on FX in the afternoons🤣 Then for Christmas that year, I ended up getting that CD, and the Radio Sunnydale soundtrack- which is a culmination of a lot of the top songs from the entire series that I really encourage you to check out once you finish the series. It was the last gift I opened. It was all I wanted, and I didn’t think I was getting it. I felt like Ralphie in a Christmas story 😂😂😂 & I only say to wait to check out the radio Sunnydale album because there are a few songs and themes from later this season as well as season seven that you shouldn’t get spoiled for. But it has a bunch of songs from bands that played at the bronze, themes from certain episodes, the original theme song recorded by The Breeders, score from big episodes like restless, the gift, etc.. It was the first time I ever cried from receiving a gift. The only other time I cried from a gift was last year, when my sister paid for a cameo video from james Marsters on my birthday where he sang happy birthday to me and hyped me up in character as Spike. Some obsessions never die LMAO

Each episode is only about 15 minutes long called "Dr Horribles Sing Along Blog". Highly recommend!

I’m not a huge fan of musicals but this episode is far and away my favorite of the entire series, I’m always so careful to not give a whiff of a hint to any reactors 😁😁 this episode literally defined the trope of shows having a musical episode and it did everything exactly right
