An abandoned camp near an ominous looking cave. What could have happened to the people that stayed here?

Recently a group of researchers looking for an ancient artifact came across an unknown cave. They set up camp near the entrance and after sending word back to town, decided to investigate. No one has heard from them since, and the town council has gathered a group of adventurer's to investigate.

As you get nearer to the location of the cave a sense of dread creeps over you which only grows stronger as you get closer. The rest of the party feels it too. They haven't spoken of it, but you can see it in the way they move, look around.

Finally you get to the cave. The camp set up by the researchers is abandoned. It seems like they expected to be back soon, but something must have kept them from returning...

You and your group take a final moment to discuss your next steps. Your entire body tell you, screams at you to go away, but against your gut feeling you decide to move on, into the cave.
