Swordtember Day 16 - Behemoth

Crackling Crown

Weapon (Greatsword), rare
This giant sword was crafted using the horn, skull, and special organ of a rare mutated Rahagora. Unlike the regular Rahagora, whose special ability is to heat up its horns, this one can produce and store an enormous amount of electric power in its horn. It uses the stored energy to electrocute a creature that it stabs with its horn or releases all at once as a lightning blast. It was hunted down because it was driven off from its habitat by one of the Ancient Rahagora, causing it to wander too close to civilization. The hunter manages to skillfully preserve its part and mutated organ that let it produce the electric power and then use them to craft this majestic weapon.
—------------------------------------------

You have a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon. If your Strength ability score is lower than 17, your attack using this weapon has a disadvantage. This sword can hold up to 5 charges. While the blade has at least 1 charge, it deals an extra 1d6 lightning damage on a hit.

Charging. After you hit a creature with this weapon, as a bonus action, you can activate the organ on its hilt to produce an electric charge and gain 1 charge. All the charges in the sword will disappear after 1 minute since the last time it was charged.

Storm Barrage. As an action, you can use all the charge and release the lightning energyall at once. You can release it as a 60-foot cone or 90-foot line that is 5 feet wide. Each creature in that line must make a Dexterity saving throw with DC 12 + a number of charges, taking 2d6 lightning damage for each charge used on a failed save or half as much damage on a successful one.

THIS is what I want to reach, holy damn I love it

Hmm, I guess the solution to that flaw is to reduce the charge time limit to 1 minute. That way, at the very least, you won't always be able to prepare the charge unless you're in an ambush position where you control when exactly the battle is going to start.

Strong Monster hunter vibes from this one, and not just from looks and lore. I think the slowly building charges and releasing them sounds very reminiscent to how combat in monster hunter feels: Patterned and methodical. Hit , charge, hit, charge, Release, charge, hit, charge. It has design similar to the attack feel of the actual greatsword in the games. the only design flaw is that you could ALWAYS just be holding the blade and keeping it charged to start every fight with what is essentially an adult dragon's breath weapon, since it only takes a little less than 50 seconds to max it out outside of combat. I might lower the max charges down if i start seeing that.
