Color sketch

Four notebook sketches, top left corner and clockwise: Hedy, Morgan (previously Morrigan), Lillith and Zee.

Zee is the only one who is not in the SPIKE story ;-)

I drew these to practice more on giving the girls different physiques and figures, because I have long since realised I need way more practice with drawing anatomy, especially on female characters.
I have had this tendency to make them all look sort of the same, either that or very unrealistic. I've still got a lot of practice and learning left to do, but I am trying to give my characters more individual sort of physiques. And since my focus has been on the male characters so long - seeing how the SPIKE story has a very male dominated cast already, I felt it was important to shift focus over to the female cast some more.

Not much has changed regarding these characters' looks, with the exception of Lillith. I have changed her into a very thin character, but not the sort of dieting-to-look-like-emaciated-models thin; more the type of girl who just is thin by default and who even struggles to put on weight. Lillith has had some complexions with her figure, especially in her early years where all the other young teens in her class got boobs and curves while Lillith felt like she was a walking surfboard. In time she learned to not give a shit about the opinions of others.
Lillith is a girl who has two types of "speed modes"; full speed or no speed. She can be chilling on the couch for hours just listening to music and snacking, and then all of a sudden feel very restless and get the urge to get up and do something. Her favorite activities are sports, particularly kick boxing as of late, aspiring to have a part time job as a coach alongside her lifelong pursuit of becoming a music manager.

Morgan is the type of girl Lillith would envy in her early teens due to her womanly curves and large breasts. But for Morgan, having her body develop the way it did was not something she felt comfortable about.
Morgan used to be all about school and focusing on her studies, but the changes in her physique granted her a lot of unwanted attention from the boys at her school, and she started wearing oversized clothes to hide her body from the eerie looks she would get.
Eventually she grew tired of it and rebelled against the boys' lustful gazes and her fellow girls' condescending scowls, and she did this by dressing in formfitting clothes and snapping at anyone who looked at her wrong, verbally punishing them for the disrespectful way they behaved and making everyone understand that she would not tolerate their shitty behavior.
There had been one boy however, whom she had fancied for a long time, but who was also the only boy who didn't oogle at her when her body  matured; he kept on ignoring her like he'd always done. But when she started speaking up against the harassment she felt, this boy she liked finally began noticing her. Happy that someone noticed her for who she was and not what she looked like, she fell even more deeply in love with this boy; Marco.
But while she found Marco to be a sweet person on the inside, his behaviour at school and particularly the bullying he was up to, had Morgan gradually change personality. Marco and Morgan became the King and Queen of the school, but in private they were able to be themselves and feel free. But as time went by, Marco noticed how Morgan's Queen Bully persona was slowly changing into her new personality.

Hedy never thought much of her weight and quite liked how she looked until she moved to a new school in the fourth grade and learned how cruel other kids could truly be. Her mother had dressed her nicely for her first day of school, yet the other girls called her ugly and ganged up on her to break her down. This kept on for days, until one time a boy - who she had noticed was also being bullied by someone - ran over to her and chased off the other girls. He asked Hedy why she kept letting them treat her like that, and Hedy said she couldn't help it; they bullied her because she wasn't thin and beautiful like the other girls were. The boy scoffed and said something she never forgot since: "You don't have to be thin to be beautiful."
This boy, she had noticed, was like her in the way that he was bullied a lot, and everyone knew but nobody cared. Yet he was also unlike her, in the way that he refused to let them break him. No matter how many times they pushed him to the ground, he always got straight back up immediately. He would put up a fight, he would stand his ground, and he would never give up.

He gave her hope. He gave her courage. And he gave her that one little sentence that helped her through countless of hard times later on and became her mantra and a reminder to appreciate herself, dress as nicely as she wanted to, and not let the opinions of bullies bring her down.
Hedy is a shy and quiet girl. She has a bubbly laugh and a positive attitude, is helpful and friendly towards everyone. She doesn't have many friends nor does she feel the need to have them; she has countless of friends and families and different worlds to visit in the many books she keeps reading. Hedy's greatest passion is reading books, and she is always seen carrying around on at least one of them. And when she isn't reading she is busy daydreaming. Walking around with her head in the clouds and also being easily distracted has along with being nervous in interaction with others lead her to develop a certain clumsiness. But she has also learned to not let embarrassment linger or ruin her day. And in all honesty she'll most likely forget about it moments after, already deeply lost into her own little daydreams or fabulous fictions.

Zee. Where to even begin.
Zee has a ceaseless supply of energy within her. Always up to something, unable to sit still - unless when deeply emerged within a video game, which she can play for hours, but even then she moves about and does anything else but sit 'still'. Chatty and energetic, impulsive and enthusiastic, she can be a bit too much for some people, but one thing is for certain; there is never a boring moment when Zee is around.
Zee's high energy also results in a high metabolism. She loves food, especially junk food, but her high appetite is also a cause of moving around constantly.
Zee's hobbies include gaming, gaming, hanging out with her brother's best friend Jason, gaming with Jason, bugging her brother, eating, gaming some more and obsessing about zombies.
She is curious about all things new, but with the attention span of a squirrel she never keeps focus long enough to actually bothering learning much about it. If it can't be explained within ten minutes, why bother.
Zee is also very loyal to her friends and despite seeming to not pay attention at times she is still very supportive and enthusiastic about her friends' interests and passions. If she sees that they are very into something, it doesn't matter if that something is dull to her; she loves seeing enthusiasm in others and will even help push them in the right direction and boost their confidence in pursuing their dreams and not let that enthusiasm die out.
She has energy to spare, and for those who find her too much for their taste will never know how much they've missed out on, as Zee is a wonderful friend and fantastic support and mood booster to have in ones life.

Zee is, as mentioned, not from the SPIKE universe, but is part of the Jason universe (Jason, Seth and Artie, the main characters of another story I have which there are some single page comics about in my DeviantART gallery), but I wanted to draw her with these other three girls either way.

In the SPIKE universe I do have other female characters as well, but most of them are very different in age from these girls. So while the main cast of SPIKE is male dominated, there are all in all an equal amount of, if not even more, female characters in the SPIKE universe as there are males, and I would love to someday draw a lineup of all the female characters from it :-)

Or what do you guys think? :) Would you like to see and learn more about the female characters of the SPIKE universe? ;)

As always; thank you all so much for your feedback, pledges and support <3  It means a whole lot to me <3
