Heavy voice acting decision
Added 2025-02-16 14:31:01 +0000 UTCHey there!
I thought I should make a special post about Voice acting sooner or later, so here it is, separately from the Weekly Post I sent to the Gremz, Hobz and Gobz.
Basically, with the Prologue update, I will need to make take some heavy decisions regarding Voice acting.
Tabula Rasa:
The changes mentioned in the Story Round-up post I wrote for my fellow Hobz & Gobz will require me to delete Alexia Renaldis' voice acting for Elena. I'm going to make too many changes to Chapter 1, keeping the current VA would make no sense.
I think the only thing I'll try to keep will be the sex moans/screams in the last part of Chapter 1.
Going forward, the game will not have voice acting for a (long) while, until I get enough funds to pay for it.
When I can, I also would like to get a different VA for Elena, ideally the lady who was my first choice for the role, but was unavailable at the end of last year.
However, I would like to hire Alexia again for a different character (which I already mentioned in the Story round-up post to my Hobz & Gobz), as she was great to work with.
Now the other big decision I'll have to make regarding voice acting will be to decide if I try to go for full voice-acting or generic reaction cue:
Full voice-acting:
Full voice-acting means I would ultimately aim to have every single line of dialogue voiced.
PROs:
• It would make the story far more engaging.
• Big quality selling-point for the game!
• Fairly easy to implement to the game, as there is a way to link voice files to dialogue lines ID.
CONs:
• Extremely expensive.
• Likely a very slow deployement, entirely dependent on Patreon support.
• Will require more work on the animated sprites, to avoid uncanny vibes from characters talking without moving their lips.
Generic reaction cues:
Those would be dozens of "Aaaaah...", "Rrrrrrh!", "Yeah!", "No!", "Ha-ha!", etc. All would be strategically and manually placed when it makes sense, to convey the tone of some lines.
PROs:
• Far less expensive than Full voice-acting.
• I could get away with not animating the lips of character sprites.
• Once I have the generic reaction cues of a character, I would only need to hire the VA to get more sex moans/screams. This means every time I'd add scenes to the game, I could add those generic reaction cues as I write the scenes, if I already have the sound-files.
CONs:
• Bit too generic for my tastes compared to Full voice-acting.
• Would require a LOT more work to implement, as I would manually have to add those to the game's code where it makes sense, to have a nice balance so that it's not too often yet not too rare.
Final thoughts:
This post doesn't feature a poll because that would be a waste of time. I'm merely stating the options for the sake of transparency, knowing that I won't be able to make a decision for many months.
The big deciding factor will be Patreon support. Currently, I can't make a living from it and I don't know what I'll do in 3-4 months if I fail to improve that.
So, obviously, my priority is to increase my output to convince more people to join this community.
Soon enough, I think I will start producing batches of sexy pictures featuring Elena. This will take away from my work on the game, but I'll still be able to throw those in the game's image gallery, and hopefully, those will keep my Hobz & Gobz engaged!
That being said, cheers... and BACK TO WORK!
