With the amount of new Patreon supporters, I figured I'd cover some questions I was asked today and add some additional information regarding the news with Mod.io
The model isn’t new, it’s the vanilla model. What changes is I found a way to make animations work with the model. During 1.5 releases I had more time to invest in what I could and couldn’t do in BG3 without an actual modding tool only using vanilla assets.
So in regards to gear working, I’ll be making a separate mod that focuses on armor/weapons/magic items. The exclusive armor designed for the races that aren’t compatible with vanilla armor will also be included in this. So Kobold, Goblins, and Locathah will be included in this mod. You’ll be able to purchase camp clothes and magic item versions of their gear. This will only include assets that was designed for the body type currently though.
They aren’t compatible with vanilla races armor which is why I have to make something separate for them. The body heights/sizes will clip right through. Similar to how Bugbear currently does. They’re a perfect example of why I typically lock armor for these types of species so they don’t display and just put gear on them by default.
Will this change ever in the future?
That depends, it’s a lot of work to rework every piece of armor in BG3 to fit these races. So, I probably won’t do so because of the amount of work it would take and then I’d have to patch every already existing armor in the game or make singular versions of those armors that wouldn’t be compatible with the vanilla races and would only work for those races. This is typically done by a team of game developers, not a single developer. So the only way this would change is if the following happens:
The official modding tool supplies support for this type of conversion and makes it extremely easy.
Other people decide to invest their time into doing this. Making the armor conversions. I fully support and endorse whomever that wishes to do so.
Possibly. If I see that the skin texture isn’t locked and is just tethered to Leather/Cloth color changes. That’s how I got around Kobolds being able to have set colors. By default, The skin texture uses the Leather or Cloth texture color system. Can’t remember which one it is off the top of my head.
This might also change in Septemeber depending on what the official modding tool provides.
Nope. A majority of the races I’ve done and plan on doing are all sourcebook content. I don’t convert monster species into races, I’m just converting everything from D&D Beyond Races into a BG3 Race. They’re using the Kuo-toa body because it’s the closest looking to the sourcebook material. There isn’t a vanilla asset available. If I can get the color changed to work I’ll be making the main version the same color as the sourcebook material. I’m a forever DM that just wanted to be able to play my own role-play characters and this Baldur’s Gate 3 is a great way for me to be able to do so. I also go to college for Game Design so this is a great way to build my portfolio to show companies what I know how to do and can do.

As long as I'm permitted to do so then, yes. I will make sure my mod is compatible with consoles. There isn't much official news on this just yet on what mods will be allowed and won't be allowed but if I'm allowed to upload this and won't have any conflicts with WoTC then yes. I'm not saying they will be opposed to this but because Fantastical Multiverse contains a lot of material from WoTC I'm uncertain if that will be a problem. I'll also try to make sure the mod remains compatible with consoles in the future as well. That way the mod can be enjoyed and used by any device you prefer to play Baldur's Gate 3 on.
Currently, this is the planned release order coming. I've changed Wave 5 from having a bunch of parts (1,2,3) to just naming them Wave 5, Wave 6, and Wave 7. I should have these out way before September. So everyone will get to enjoy these races before Patch 7 gets here. Once I have figured out what all Wave 8 will contain I shall let you know. Wave 5 is taking a bit longer because I got busy with the last week of my college course but now that I'm free again I'll be finishing up Wave 5 which will have new Icons thanks to TheCeruleanWitch!
