Crash vs. Sonic Art Process Images
Added 2019-09-01 10:34:39 +0000 UTCHere's the art process for the thumbnail for the upcoming Crash Team Racing vs. Team Sonic Racing video (should be out in the next 48 hours). The artwork is obviously based on the concept of the cover art for Mario & Sonic at the 2016 Rio Olympics, with Crash standing in for Mario.
Tried a bit of a new process on this one. Essentially I digitally inked it once with vectors, but then went back over the vectors in a different brush to try and give it more of a hand-drawn feel where lines aren't perfectly straight or all the same width. It ended up being a lot of work for a result that's almost impossible to see.
The colors for both Sonic and Crash came from official artwork via the eyedropper tool. In Crash's case, I actually used some concept art, which is why he might not be 100% on-model with his current incarnation. (I think modern Crash's shoes are a bit more red nowadays)
Once the full video's out there and uploaded I'll see about making proper wallpaper sized versions of the final thumbnail image. Maybe in a couple different variations, too.
