Hurray, they're doing American Idol now... Lucky meeee.....

Swan Princess: Kingdom of Music Review

Ahh, I see you discovered the live action "trailer"... Mind boggling that this is not fan made. I discovered it while watching your previous review, when I had to google the series and refresh my memory of the previous movies and oh boy, they are a doozy. I am surprised btw, this series has fans? They have yet to show up in your review's comments.

BB Shockwave

While I am a big fan of American Idol (to the point of where I am the administrator of the American Idol Wiki), even I disliked this movie. The section with the singing contest was hackneyed and contrived. That being said, I do not think it was as bad as the previous one.

Tyler Mannix

SERIOUSLY. Scully TRAVELED to another country... read a random page of a spell book in a language he doesn't know... flew BACK to Swanprincessstan while REMEMBERING the entire page... had to DIRECT someone else to ACCURATELY draw the letters so so someone else can read them? I think this move pulled a muscle for reach out too far for this... Also... why not Bridgette? She was transformed by Rothbart too.... she ALSO cast the spell on Odette in the 2nd movie too, right? I know it was TFA/Joe in that too, but I think she might have some insight on how that kind of magic works....

SilverZeo

Maybe give some broken tulips to Derrick and Odette too... cause they're roles as protagonists in this movie is to setting up the talent show that help the plot for this movie...... which they had NOTHING to do with outside of the opening ceremony. And being Scully's assistants to break Chan's curse... which they also failed at cause someone ELSE had to do it... that's all they kinda did and amount to anything in this movie..

SilverZeo

22:10 - well, clearly there is a Star Sapphire somewhere in SwanPrincessistan because that staircase was sure an energy construct! :D

BB Shockwave

"We need Scully!" - Somewhere, Mulder is feeling incredibly unneeded. :D

BB Shockwave

Augh, the pain never ends! Thank you for enduring these terrible movies for us. I sure as hell would not watch them by themselves, they only become bearable with your commentary! Btw, indeed that dragon is uncanny valley with that creepy half-human face, brrrr. I do wonder though, why is it a curse to be turned into a dragon that can apparently, fly, has magic powers, and he can even turn back to human form? Most people would consider this an upgrade. :D

BB Shockwave

Indeed, he is like Grandma Ghost on Charmed, he might as well be alive considering how he never goes away. Guess he has unfinished business of making everyone's life miserable!

BB Shockwave

There's nothing cynical about observing the blatantly obvious. That broken tulip scene says it all. If you can find value in something broken, that's fine. But then EVERYONE has to break their perfectly fine tulips JUST because Li likes it? Come on...

Bobsheaux

This maybe my inner cynic, but I think this movie is just pleading to the Chinese Numbers overall... the Norm of the North sequels did the same thing too. While I do think it was a fun love triangle this movie... it was rather under utilized.... I think thats the thing with these movies. They have just ONE fraction of an interesting idea/concept... but it rather poorly executed, and those are the GOOD ones... the others are just weak buy-bait for kids... like being spies... or pirates... or a musical showcase.... I mean... they literally shoe-horned a Chinese variant of Derrick and Odette's into this that TRIES to be like their story...

SilverZeo

Like, I’m all for the childhood friends to lovers trope, but it came out of nowhere. No build up, no nothing, it happened off screen. Li and Alise actually had some time to bond and develop their initially rocky friendship. While it’s far from anything spectacular (this is the Swan Princess we’re talking about) it’s a lot more natural and makes me want to root for them. Sorry Lucas, it’s a no from me

Psyc Melone

I’m honestly surprised that Alise and Li managed to have decent romantic chemistry. At the very least a thousand times better than her and.... uh...boy 2.

Psyc Melone

They were very much a thing and they were for the express purpose of announcing that the girl was of legal age to accept suitors. He wasn't saying that coming of age balls didn't happen. He was making a comment that they have always been exploitive and icky.

Raven Fox

Just want to let you know that if they cancel you over any joke contained herein, I will personally double my pledge.

Beau Bureau

To be fair to the movie (and that is VERY hard to say to these movies), "coming of age balls" (or debutante balls, as they were known historically) were a thing. Mainly for upper class or aristocratic women for whom marriage had political ramifications. They still occasionally happen, but mainly died out after WWI.

Meagan

Ditto

Albastruna

I know. It really is sad.

Curtis Rogahn

At least there's no Canadian Wolf Puppy syndrome at play in this franchise. It's really sad when remembering the passage of time is a POSITIVE for a movie franchise. If even for only two characters Okay, I held asking this question for way to long. But since Bob kinda brought it up. Does the Kingdom of Swanprincessstan allow any kind of magic? Because the only magic we’ve seen before was through the Forbidden Arts AKA Joe. But Odette was very strongly against trying to find a way to use the Forbidden Arts for good. So what exactly IS magic in this world? And to answer your question Bob, I’m not. I’m really not. I’m really really not. And I really wouldn't mind a remake. Might even enjoy one. I still love the first movie, but I'd be a fool not to admit it has flaws. A remake could help hammer those out. Maybe we get a new behind the scenes crew though. Don't think the current SP team has what it takes. Especially with the designs of Speed and Jean Bob. But I would LOVE to see the paint arrow scene redone. Always was my favorite.

Curtis Rogahn

If you ever figure it out let me know. I hate the hate the film gets.

Curtis Rogahn

I'd rather have Scully than Rey. At least there aren't a legion of fans demanding I love Scully because he shows how "Anyone can be the hero" or "He's giving squirrels a rolemodel" or "You just hate him because he's not human".

Curtis Rogahn

Geez, am I the only one who likes Sisu’s design in Raya and the Last Dragon? I honestly don’t get the hate for it, she’s very beautiful and very majestic.

Grace Starkes

Who asked for this movie who asked for any of these movies

Jack Sullivan

So Elise and Lucas age but no one else does

churchontime

And they KILLED HIM in his first movie!! What was even the point of that if these writers had such a squirrel-boner for him?!

Bobsheaux

What is the writer's obsession with Scully being involved in the plot? Is he just a self insert fanfic character they want to be the breakout character or something like Rey in the Disney Star Wars trilogy?

Matt R

Not only does one scene rip off the lion king but before that when Odette comes down the staircase the music sounds like the Beauty And The Beast theme song. Sick ‘em Disney lawyers. I wish Dracula would appear since the Swan Lake ballet music is used in the credits for the 1931 Lugosi movie and suck all of their blood

A.T. M

Not yet, anyway...

Ben Molulon

As bad as the series is, at least they didn’t give Elise and Lucas the KateHumph Pups treatment

CliffNoir329

Lucas is the one that said, "Papa" in the last movie? Correct if I'm wrong, but I could have sworn I saw Elise's mouth moving when that line was said. Also, I think they said "coming of age ball" instead of "debutant ball" because they assume the audience is too stupid to know what a debutant ball is. Also also, when Lucas is speaking to Rogers in Alpernian Code, the shutters on his lantern don't move. Smooth job, animators.

Verdant Range

This movie gives off way more sexual tension than Derek and Odette's relationship throughout the entire franchise. That's embarrassing, but at the same time...Derek and Odette are still one of the WORST couples I've ever seen.

Sethunya

Every time I think these sequels can’t get worse, I’m always proven wrong; and as a fan of the first three films, this just hurts

Albastruna

It's time for Swan Princess Idol! Here's our host Bobsheaux!

Daniel J

Geez how many of these things are there now? I only remember watching the original and the first sequel as a kid...

doinkies

Music to my ears! Lol
