The main takeaway from these: 

The most important principle in expressions is the action, which  creates stretching and pinching. 

Whenever one thing stretches, another pinches (the same thing that happens with the figure). For example, when the forehead muscles contract, they shorten (muscles can only shorten), causing the wrinkling (pinching) on the forehead, and simultaneously stretching out the skin in the orbits, around the eyes + opening the eyes further. 

Some more tips when drawing faces:

-don't forget to cast shadows where you can (not only the nose and brows, but also other smaller forms)

-pay attention to the way the facial forms interlock

-choice of light source drastically changes the way the form is represented (as shown in the 2 drawings in the 1st image)


I don't like the last page of drawings, I think they're very stiff and have weak action, but hey
