2019-06-28 09:03:43 +0000 UTCThere are many legends of King Arthur and Merlin, and this show is simply a different take on them. In most of the legends, Merlin is an old man... like we see in the movie you talked about titled King Arthur starring Clive Owen, Ioan Gruffudd, and Kiera Knightly, as well as in the Disney movie, The Sword in the Stone. And Arthur is usually seen as a young boy in them as well. This show is centered around the friendship between Merlin and Arthur, as well as their destinies and so the creators wanted to make them the same age, along with Guinevere, who is destined to become Queen and to marry Arthur. As for Morgana... in the legends she is also known as Morgan Le Fay, who also has a powerful destiny that intertwines with Arthur. And here, she is King Uther's ward, like Dick Grayson is ward to Bruce Wayne in Batman. She is as close to being Uther's adopted daughter as she can be. Overall, I love the developing friendship between Merlin and Arthur shown throughout this show, as it's barely begun, as well as the overall storylines. If you do continue to watch this series, I will definitely watch because I really enjoyed watching Merlin as it aired. It's fun, cheesy in the best of ways, and the characters are all a lot of fun. And the storylines are entertaining. Thank you so much for your reaction!!!

As for your question about getting rewarded by becoming Arthur's manservant...It actually would be a great honor for most lowborn people or commoners. Being a servant in the royal palace is big, even bigger if it is to a royal, and even bigger than that to serve a crown prince who will later become king. It's a much better position than the pageboy/apprentice to the court physician. For Merlin, it would mean higher pay, higher references, more respect from other people, trust from the future king, and maybe even the chance to later be rewarded with minor lands and titles. If Merlin didn't despise Arthur, it would be considered a great promotion for him.
