It made the New York Times’ list of the Top 25 Best TV Shows since The Sopranos, which made me happy. I love it when genre shows get the recognition they deserve. Happy you’re doing this!

2019-07-03 18:12:03 +0000 UTCGrowing up both my brothers were huge trekkies as well as Star Wars fans, but those franchises just never clicked with me. Space set shows/movies in general weren’t my cup of tea. I’m not even sure why I tried BSG, it was so long ago, but I did and I am so glad. By the end of the opening mini-series I was hooked. It’s hard to narrow down a top 10 list of shows when you have so many you like. But BSG is easily in my top 10. So thrilled to see this on your list!

Twelve planets which are conveniently named after our 12 horoscope signs. ;-) Caprica City is (most likely) the capital of Caprica. There is a show called Caprica which centers around Cmdr. Adama's father, pre-First-Cylon war. And as for the names: Starbuck, Apollo and Boomer are all their pilot call signs, just like US fighter pilots have them (Maverick and Iceman anyone?). In the original 1978 show those were their actual character names but they changed that for realism.

2019-07-02 11:08:25 +0000 UTCToo clear up a bit of confusion: Commander Adama was about to retire from military service for which he has served many years. The Galactica was built during the first Cylon war 40 years ago and was about to be decommissioned from active service and become a museum. That's why it doesn't have much ammunition and not many fighters anymore and the starboard hangar bay is already a gift shop. The show made it a point not to be a continuation of the 1978 show but also pay homage to it. What you see in the museum area are the 1978 Cylons and their Basestars (Humans have Battlestars, Cylons have Basestars). Also during the fly-by ceremony you can hear the original show's theme music. Easter egg: When you go to the scene where Roslin is informed of her cancer and you look up the glass windows, you can see an actual Firefly-class ship in the sky. ;-)
