Ranking of episodes is very subjective and I won't try to change your mind about this one, but I think your appraisal of it is based more on your irrational dislike of Lisa than anything in the episode itself. Whenever Lisa appears, you seem to dislike the episode on principle. I don't think Lisa and Dean work as a couple. I actually don't think Dean cares about her much at all. He certainly never shows much sign of caring. He feels an obligation to her and to Ben, but he's not in love with her. However, she and Dean both wish they loved each other and I like her as a character. A lot of female fans hate her because they hate any woman he shows an interest in. With male fans, I think some of them don't like the idea of their action heroes having a home life. Whatever the reason, the actress received so much hatred that she was very hurt by it, which upsets me. The significance of this episode is clearer later and I think you will like it more then. Until then, though, please at least consider the fact that your anti-Lisa bias may be altering your perception of it.

2020-12-23 20:44:14 +0000 UTCThe opening parody of Twilight is kinda long and not interesting for me since a I am not a fan of Twilight. But then Sam letting Dean get turned 😧 and seeing what it’s like for Dean to be a vampire. I found that interesting. And us getting surprised there is a cure and Sam really knew about it but pretending he didn’t because otherwise both Samuel and Dean would be angry with him and no longer trust him. And the leader of the nest was so creepy. Plus BAMF!Dean killing his way through the nest. Oh yeah, I could watch that all day.

2020-09-15 23:45:44 +0000 UTCI like this episode because it strengthens the belief that something isn't right with Sam, he's lying to everyone, he's not opposed to putting people in danger including his own brother something the old Sam would have issues with, like when Sam wouldn't let Gordon kill the Vampire Lenore, yet here he's clearly let Dean be turned, knowing Samuel had a cure but seeing Dean as a means to an end to locate the nest and potentially the Alpha. Similarly, the interaction with Lisa and Ben paves the way to cause more division & guilt for Dean, because after all Dean wouldn't be Dean without a healthy dose of guilt.

2020-07-30 22:01:31 +0000 UTCThis was definitely a parody of Twilight but TVD had just started so don't believe that show played any part of it especially since Dean asked that want to be vampire if he was wearing glitter.

2020-07-22 15:48:09 +0000 UTCAnd about Dean killing all those vamps: he was armed and knew what he was doing. He had the same strength and speed. So if you put a professional killer with a blade against unarmed youngsters (half are teenage girls), it's no wonder it's going to be a one sided massacre.

2020-07-21 14:08:50 +0000 UTCI'm giving this a solid 8. One of my top 20 episodes. One thing I don't get is this is a partial parody on Twilight and Vampire Diaries, but all I see is Twilight. What of TVD is there?

2020-07-21 14:06:46 +0000 UTCMy problem with Lisa is she really doesn't have a personality. She's not an actual character. She's just there to make Dean feel upset

2020-07-21 11:57:14 +0000 UTCI think the reason the episode actually works for me is that I know what's the come and see what gets set up actually pretty well in this episode. Also keep in mind Dean's got Vamp strength when he's taking them all out. He's on an even playing field where as he would be dead if he wasn't turned

2020-07-20 05:52:00 +0000 UTCThis was so-so. Won't have my husband watch it. Maybe, as they say above, it will be more interesting to think about in hindsight - but the only interesting thing for me was that even Samuel thinks that something is wrong with Sammy.

2020-07-20 03:26:07 +0000 UTCI feel like the majority gave this an 8 because this episode is MUCH better when you've already watched the rest of the season, so I get where you're coming from. I also remember being really confused when I watched it for the the first time.

2020-07-19 22:31:51 +0000 UTCWhile I do completely agree with all of your points, I will say that this is one of those episodes where after having watched the rest of the season and looking back, it's much more meaningful and impactful. You don't catch everything and understand why some things are happening right now so much of the events seem almost pointless or like they're completely unnecessary for the episode. I would really be curious to see how you may feel late down the line once more of the storyline is revealed.

2020-07-19 20:22:02 +0000 UTCThe only things I really care about in this is that Sam is completely different now, Dean and Grampa both notice something is wrong with Sam but for different reasons and there is a new Alpha for the show. I don’t think Dean would be down for being turned for undercover work because Grandpa said himself the cure was an old family recipe that hadn’t been used in years. It could work or he could die. Clearly Grandpa wasn’t down for the plan, that mess was all Sam who is clearly not the Sam we know from before the jump into the cage. This builds more on the something is seriously wrong with Sam side plot or maybe that is the main plot I don’t know.

2020-07-19 15:17:21 +0000 UTCI know you'll probably bring it up in the next episode on the user rating vs your rating but for me personally I rate it 8 because of future knowledge. When you get answers and look back things will fall in line but this Season is building towards something, not everyone's cup of tea which is totally OK. But I think the payoff is great and can make even the meh episodes shine a bit brighter

2020-07-19 15:17:16 +0000 UTCIt was a good episode because it deals with two aspects, one the fact that Sam seems to be different, more merciless and devoid of remorse but also the fact that we discover a little more the vampiric hierarchy. These are essentially these two pieces of information to remember, I really liked the cold killer Dean, it changes his personality unlike Sam who seems to change and evolve every season for good or bad. I understand that Steven can find this long and boring episode but it was mainly to highlight that Sam is different but also to discover a new Alpha, we must also remember that we are only at episode 5 and that it takes time for the final plot to develop, we can't have all the answers now, we have to build the suspense. Steven will discover over time the reason why the Alphas appear but also the fact that they seem to want to create more of their congeners like the shapeshifter who wanted to recover the baby, one of his own and the vampires who transform people a lot. They are building armies which means a war is on. I can't wait to see the next episode and the rest of the season because although in my opinion it's not the best, a lot of episodes are interesting as are the evolution of some characters.

2020-07-19 14:58:30 +0000 UTCIts not too hard to believe that Dean killed a nest full of newly turned vamps. The oldest one there was 600 years old and was the only real challenge. Think about it, they weren't even "compliant" when they were let out of their cages to "get Dean". Dean has been a killer since he was a kid, the dude underestimated him since he pretended to not know what a hunter was. Really want you to see the next episode so we can continue on with the Sam stuff! I agree tho, fairly meh episode, but the ideas are there. As for why the Alphas are popping up now, again, think about it. Heaven and Hell lost their biggest weapons in Michael and Lucifer last season, they no longer have any stake in the planet... but what about the monsters? Theres a power play for the seat of power on Earth. We know Crowley is in charge of Hell now, Castiel possibly in charge of Heaven but where does that leave Earth if not totally undefended by creatures already living there? Hope that explains it

2020-07-19 14:27:55 +0000 UTChey is there is a schedule to how put out these reactions to the shows. I'd really like to know the days Angel, The vampire diares, Smallville and The office come out. Of course supernatural as well. Just wondering if you have one.

2020-07-19 14:23:23 +0000 UTCRegarding Dean's relationship ... I always felt it was more about Dean than Lisa. It just seemed like Dean acting on a part of him that desired a normal family. It reminded me of Sam when he thought he might want to be at Law school.

2020-07-19 11:56:03 +0000 UTCWatching this episode live was insane. I remember the message boards being flooded with "WTF SAM?!?!" lol ugh this season so good

2020-07-19 11:36:53 +0000 UTCI actually love this episode but I do see the flaws. I think dean kicked vampire ass so easily because he was a vampire with the instincts of a hunter. So really he’s a killing force lol. Deans women I really like her and they built her up as someone I enjoy but I also don’t think they included her enough in the beginning. Military wives tell their husbands or vice versa that phone conversations are getting old and to come home soon all the time so I didn’t really understand why you were annoyed by that. This episode is really trying to get the viewer to understand that Sam is not who he says he is not exactly anyway. Sam lying to Samuel and Dean is showing he has his own agenda he doesn’t feel the same family bond and his feelings aren’t going to hold him back. Just like how dean changed after hell were he felt broken like was dead inside and he didn’t belong Sam had something happen as well. Anyway sorry you didn’t enjoy the episode but I get it their are issues with it. Can’t wait for the next episode :)
