Donna's story was not any more accurate really, and she fully admits she was angry while writing it - at least the part that was released initially. Being a "writer" isn't a pass to misrepresent and hurt someone (it's not a pass for anything ever), at the very least she could have just come clean and told him about the second part instead of goading Eric. Like a lot of things, Eric gets the short end of the stick - he often takes it slightly too far, but is normally right to feel aggrieved yet is the only one who gets looked down on.
