Fun fact - the guidance counselor in this episode (Miss Kryzanowski) is played by Winnie Holzman - the creator of the show. Her husband, Paul Dooley, plays Patty's dad in this episode.

to your side note - my cousin told the story at our grandpa's funeral about how my aunt had made her miss a dead show to go to his 70th birthday party. it had been a big fight. my aunt said the dead had been and would be touring forever, my cousin could see them any time, but we may not have much time left with grandpa so she'd better find another taker for the ticket. punch line: jerry died three weeks later and our grandpa stuck around for another 18 years.

I don't remember clearly, but I'm not sure that the dad actually cheated (or if we ever know for sure). He basically told his brother he had the chance, but not that he'd actually acted on it. I last watched this show about 10 or so years ago and I remember by halfway through thinking Patty was the worst, but I don't remember exactly why. Maybe just the general suburban "Karen" vibe. But so far this time around Angela seems more awful (but she's also a 15 year old girl, so that's about 70% odds on being terrible for a couple of years yet). I really like the connection between Rayanne and Angela's dad. She says he's hot, but it becomes apparent that she's just really taken by a dad who is around and who does things like teach you to cook and give you Dead tickets. Side note: This episode wounds me because I was offered two chances to see The Grateful Dead in Pittsburgh in 95 and, much like Angela, was just about a year to young to appreciate how amazing an experience that would be. Sadly, Jerry Garcia died later that summer and I've always regretted not taking one of those offers. Also, I distinctly remember having a weird crush on Angela's dad myself. Not that I wanted to date a middle aged man as a teen but that aside from the possible infidelity, the actor and character just seemed like someone I'd hope to be married to one day.
