Brian...make your own opinions on the show.....they did get 7 nominations on The Peoples Choice awards and won 5 of them.....and 4 wins were AFTER they were off the air....this fandom can be......different.....so try to keep your own thoughts and not be influenced by others.

2021-05-26 17:08:32 +0000 UTCIf you love the books, take it from someone that does too, but you probably won't like the show. Most people that love the books ended up disliking the show. Even Cassandra Clare didn't like the show. The book fandom and the show fandoms can get pretty ugly against each other on social media for a good reason.

I was super excited when it first started aired, being a TMI fan, but I dropped it halfway S2, cause I really just couldn't watch it anymore. They change directors after S1 and those made it so much worse. To me, you either love it, or you hate. And I really, really tried to love it, because of the source material. Failed hard at it in the end. But try the movie as well. 'City of Bones'. It's actually pretty good, (I hated it when it first came out though, but the show made me appreciate the movie in a whole new light).

The one saving grace (thank god), is the production overall seriously improves in its 2nd season. It's not that good, but it's so much better. The acting is more nuanced, the dialogue is significantly better (though still shaky at times), the directing and cinematography improve, and the show does try and tell deeper stories. If you like the subject matter and melodrama and are willing to swim through the middens to get to clear waters, give it a shot.

2021-04-17 15:44:41 +0000 UTCJust wanted to say that this show is based of a book series called Mortal Instruments and yes there is a movie adaptation of it too, tho the movie is miles more accurate than the show who goes of the rail like 4 episodes in.

I think the show does have a few misses, but what intrigued me about this first episode is the relationships that were established and started to form, as well as the characterizations. And yes, Magnus is Harry Shum, Jr. who played Mike on Glee!

2021-04-16 19:49:05 +0000 UTCYep, I agree with what everyone has said so far. Initially I couldn't watch the show because of the terrible acting in the beginning. Isabel seems especially bad to me. However, it DOES get better with time and becomes a really great show. It's a shame because I think those growing pains really hurt the show's audience retention. Anyway, the fact that they were able to put this world on film is nothing short of incredible. You'll see more of what I'm talking about as time goes on. Also...know that it is based on a book series called the mortal instruments.
