I didn't even know the film existed and knew what this episode was about. I will have to watch the film one day, something I have never got around to.

2021-06-05 15:29:26 +0000 UTCSo, one key thing you miss out on being unfamiliar with the source material (and just not having watched this live) is that the ending was initially "multiple choice" between two filmed options. The original is famous for having aired multiple endings in theaters (only showing all of them together after it went to video as "That's how it could have happened"), and this one was setup with a similar gimmick. It ended up going to viewers' choice as to which one is "canon" even though both are possible. And a third ending was filmed but relegated to just the DVD extras. The other pseudo-canon ending showed that it was Christopher Lloyd's biographer who did it (which honestly I prefer and believe makes more sense). So that's why the ending might seem rushed and why both Lloyd and the book clues sort of disappear.

There are three endings I believe - I’ve only seen the other endings twice because they usually only show The Butler’s ending since that is what won the poll. I do remember the full episode having a few extra parts as well - for example when the groupie opens her wallet showing them the picture of her son Shawn yells “Gus, you have another son!”

2021-06-04 09:30:05 +0000 UTCI love this episode, seeing the actors from Clue in it, plus Curt Smith being back again after the Shawn 2.0 episode, great 100th episode. Yes, Clue and Knives Out are great movies and I definitely recommend watching them.

2021-06-04 07:37:21 +0000 UTCI thought when you said “is this a murder mystery? Clue style?” You had seen “clue” but then said you hadn’t :( The woman( Leslie Ann Warren) was ms scarlet. Christopher loyd aka doc brown was professor plum and the man who died at dinner table(Martin Mull) was Col. Mustard in the movie. Yes many many references to Clue the movie are in this. Madeline Kahn was also in the movie.Watch the movie, I think you’d enjoy it. Garrett Morris(the butler) was an original cast member of first Snl troop and ya he was in both “Martin” and “Jamie Foxx Show”
