2021-06-05 15:02:43 +0000 UTC@DelGuy03 also not an expert on the practice. i'd also guess a ceiling fan wouldn't be the best place to tether, though it sounds like carl anchored his very well. as for state of undress required, i imagine there's a range of options, but he'd at least need any pants he had on either down or open for access - which could contribute to bob thinking this was a freak accident that happened when carl was putting on or taking off his belt. i don't know. i may have subconsciously thought the show was more likely to center the joke of bob's cluelessness around a sexual kink than a suicide, though of course either is possible - one just a little darker. i've also gotten used to shows that touch on suicide including a psa card at the end with hotline numbers - though one may not have been needed here because the suicide references were so oblique/implied, or because the show's canadian. but really, i don't know. i can see a basis for either explanation and appreciate hearing alternate perspectives.

He will have a memorable explanation of it in the next episode. @Nancy Smith, I'm intrigued by your autoerotic-asphyxiation explanation, which makes that line so much more meaningful... but would someone who's into that choose a ceiling fan for it? (Maybe so... I know so little about the subject.) Plus surely his necessary state of undress would have been noticed in that case? Again, I don't know, but Johnny seemed to take it as straight suicide, which sent him spinning into his thoughts of "I'm going to die here."
