This show is the definition of the term "dramedy", and was at the time one of the biggest shows along with Lost and Grey's Anatomy. I still love it and it has some of the best lines you will ever hear. There is a lot of comedy, a lot of murder and mystery, and a lot of character introspection. I just love everything about it. I nearly suggested this show as a replacement for Gilmore Girls when you were done with it because Susan and Julie have that mother/daughter vibe and the entire show takes place in a little neighborhood full of eccentric characters, much like Stars Hollow.

2023-07-22 17:38:26 +0000 UTCit's funny that you said this show reminds you of sex and the city because the show creator, marc cherry, has said that sex and the city inspired him to create this show. he was watching one of the episodes and thought...what would this show be like if these 4 single women all got married, had families, and lived in the suburbs. and thats how the premise for desperate housewives was born. always thought that was kinda neat. anywho, this show is great. it has a blend of mystery, dark humor, and good drama. i was a big fan when it originally aired.

Every time we see a new character, I get flashes of their arcs and I remember just how unhinged it can get. Lots of mysteries, lots of murder I think...and lots of comedy. I remember liking Gabrielle's humour the best. This has just inspired me to go rewatch the series myself lol

2023-07-22 02:17:46 +0000 UTCfor a time i went to stay with with relatives that lived in a very wealthy neighborhood. it was eye opening how steeped the wives were in drama, pills, and secrets. this show shows that side of things. it may feel unrealistic but trust me, in those circles, it very much is. women have to be "on" 24/7 to keep up with everyone else also struggling to be "on" there's lies and secrets and yeah, desperation. it's sad and unhinged and i'm so glad i only had to be there for a short time. but i feel like that's what this show is going for. it's telling that story of things

Back then it was absolutely unheard of that a show dives into the hidden burdens and mental load of wives and mothers. Desperate Housewives was one of the first shows that gave the "wives and mothers" roles substance and layers. I get how it is annoying atp but that changes the more the show moves along bc you realise why they are the way they are and also they grow as characters too.

2023-07-21 06:30:38 +0000 UTCI'd never suggest this show for you if it was just about housewives hating their life ;D that would be a pretty miserable show to watch for anyone. But yes, the mystery is a big part of why I think you'd enjoy it, the whole first season til this day is rated very highly. The characters are annoyingly stereotypical at the moment but they definitely don't remain so linear and predictable, that would be boring.
