Quality, burnout, and breasts

In light of the recent poll, I wanted to make this post to elaborate a bit on some things.

I had been talking with Grug (he's the guy who I am working with to develop the "TOBF 2.0" , even though it's much more than that) about a variety of things, particularly about the current state of MUGEN.

The one thing we pretty quickly agreed on, is that, MUGEN is pretty much stagnant.

Every now and then a new aggressor will come around that introduces a relatively new idea, but things generally tend to follow a set structure and for the most part things boil down to being more or less a glorified animation viewer. 

It's kind of funny, because the word "MUGEN" means more or less "unlimited", but most developers have barely scratched the surface in what we could really do with the engine and more or less keep making the same things.

Part of the poll was, in a way, trying to glean what it is you guys were interested in the most, and it was actually not that skewed one way or the other, but I feel like aggressor development won over because a lot of folks feel that things are pretty dry, from a mechanical/gameplay perspective.

When I first started out developing for MUGEN, I could literally sit down all day and code or work on sprites, as opposed to now where I go maybe 1-2 hours before I have to get up and do something else. I never really thought about the why until I made the poll, and saw this comment:

 Do whatever you want to do and offer a 'quality'  product that way. If you begin to feel burnout from constantly working on the same thing then the final product is obviously going to suffer, and I doubt that anyone here wants that. 

This really resonated with me for some reason, and the reason why is I probably feel burnt out from making the same 4 positions over and over..which like this poster said, will inevitably affect the quality of your work..  

Taking your time on each project can kind of ease that sense of burnout, since you aren't completing one thing and then immediately onto the next, but at the same time, a patreon without any type of deadlines never seems to work out well..so i'll have to keep looking for a happy balance between the two.


Sooo, what I typed all of that out for is to basically say that my (late) new years resolution, for MUGEN, is take my time and produce higher quality content, and hopefully Grug and I will be able to put together that next big aggressor that changes the landscape a bit. 

Hopefully this is comprehensible and not just a stream of incoherent text, it's late, I have a big test coming up in a couple of days, and I still need to figure out how to draw better looking pixel tits and ass. which brings me to my final point. If you know of any pixel artists who make good looking animated pixel boobs and butts, please send me a link to their work so I can study it

Random shower thought: instead of re-inventing the wheel what do you think of making your characters backwards compatible with a lot of the aggressors currently out there? Minotaur has some unique holds, Kuromaru has his finishers that you could add unlimited options to, and there's a rather unique aggressor named Murakami Mob that has limitied compatible with a lot of characters.

The author of the futa sanae was unique. Had alot of positions. Even a debuff system. Id like to see a debuff system for your aggressors. Like...the more brian or roxy gropes the more aroused they get. And the first penetration will cause the victim to bleed like kuromaru_press. Id like to see brian. Tobf. Or even your underrated roxy being able to do that.

The only unique adult mugen person i know is mugen_ero but he he kinda dissapeared and he never makes his work public. Only videos. He did the 4 animations anyways. But this seems like a great change! Looking forward to it. Hopefully this changes your aggressors. What your saying sounds like mugen really does have unlimited potential. I hope roxy updates or..id like to see a female aggressor who dominates men. I usually never see those. Or dominate both. This is an intrigueing change! Keep up the great work gettag!

Yeah, can massively agree with this personally. Playing as victims is most of the appeal for me, so having tougher and more varied aggressors in terms of mechanics rather then say, animations really would be a far bigger draw for me. Honestly, wouldn't hurt to get a few new animations here and there of a a different variety, but I'd much prefer more diverse mechanics akin to this then anything else as it'd make it far more enjoyable to play in general as in most enemies cases, you have to pretty much let the animation play out as its fairly easy to break most aggressors grapples, at least the ones that allow you to even escape at that. Of course, there are a few exceptions who make things a little more difficult, like the alternate TOBF and Birdie/Brian with the hearts/stun meters. Either way though, keep up the good work really, trying to inflict different statuses on victims based on whats happened like creampies/orgasms/ahegao could make for both extremely enjoyable, as well as pretty hot ways to expand on things.

My one gripe with adult MUGEN stuff has always been that it feels too much like an animation viewer. I want to play a victim and feel challenged as I try to play through arcade mode fighting tougher and tougher aggressors. I think there is so much room for growth here. There could be victims who are coded to have states, for example maybe they are slower and weaker for a bit after a creampie, and then eventually they are frozen for a moment as it slides out. There could be more interesting ways to try and escape from ongoing assault moves, for example following a ball under a cup and having to pick the right cup after three cups are shuffled. For me, these are the sorts of things that would make me find the game way more interesting and keep coming back.

im glad you're taking a concrete direction. it's not that you didn't have one before but clearly you weren't fully satisfied and it's always cathartic to change things up for the better. this will pay off in the long run
