Public Demo 2 Patch 2 (Must-haves?)
Added 2024-04-04 13:35:31 +0000 UTCHi!
The first Public Demo 2 patch is now out and I'm currently starting to form the second patch for the next week.
Here's few fixes and features that I think are "must-haves":
Increased interaction radius for smaller items / or "looting dot"
Option to active placement mode directly from inventory
More robust shader caching solution (initial stutters)
Toggle settings for lean, crouch, sprint, ADS
Adjusting the AI spawn rates
More common level items / variety
Do you think something else that could be really beneficial for this next patch and relatively easy to implement content-wise at this stage?

2024-04-06 17:58:11 +0000 UTCGood point. That's something I'd also consider, making 3 stages of movement like in the previous unity build. This system was a pretty solid and good foundation imo. Walk, jog, sprint. walking for long distances, jogging at a ~30% faster rate than walking, for crossing an intermediate distance faster and having a stam. consumption about as much for running now, and a short but very straining "tactical sprint" as shown in the clip, as a sort of "last option" movement, for either getting to cover if injured, or switching cover/ approaching the enemy.

2024-04-05 06:38:05 +0000 UTCI know what this game is about, so I don't need to be educated on this topic. Holster your weapon to run? I run if I am attacked to get to cover and during an attack I don't holster my weapon. I do it like this: https://youtu.be/up8ZN_PLgiU?t=214 But I get your point, so maybe the ability to sprint should be limited to a certain amount when you are holding your rifle.

2024-04-05 02:56:56 +0000 UTCIf it's easy to allow walking over the small objects like mattresses, that's a must have.

2024-04-04 23:31:24 +0000 UTCTarkov has a dot that only appears when you're looking near an item. It's done well and seems subtle.
Orion
2024-04-04 23:30:22 +0000 UTCYea already figured out the same and working with that dot would become really messy, I will definitely just go with that larger invisible interaction radius.

2024-04-04 19:35:36 +0000 UTCbtw i don't think that a looting dot is a good idea. When do you want it to appear? If it is there permanently then you can also call it a crosshair and that again goes against the idea of what RtV is. A larger interaction radius is perfectly ok and necessary, but people need to learn where the center of their monitor is.

2024-04-04 19:34:07 +0000 UTC- ability to take ammo out of guns - ammo stacking - pointer to pickup items from the ground - ability to mag check for amount of ammo - ability to check fire mode

2024-04-04 18:14:02 +0000 UTCAn additional FOV slider for the arms/guns like in the unity build would be awesome if that's possible to add in time. I also got a whole idea for altering the movement system, which, in my opinion, needs a pretty good rework, but I think I leave that in the feedback section of the new webside :)

2024-04-04 17:30:09 +0000 UTCThis is perhaps OT but; At some point, do buildings get windows (partially etc..)? If so, will these be breakable or bullets at least leave some sort of ,,spider web" mark at them ?

2024-04-04 17:15:17 +0000 UTCCould you check the selector switch positions on the AK-12? They seem backwards (center is semi, down is full-auto). AKS-74U looks fine.

2024-04-04 16:57:30 +0000 UTCI agree. This would also make the maps feel ever so slightly larger. Kind of how they make cars in open world games (far cry being the best example) slow for the same reason, and just add visual cues to add sense of speed. Continuous sprinting also doesn't have that much of a penalty atm. If there are going to be many shelters along the way, spending more time in the maps doesn't seem like a bad thing at all since you won't always have to run all the way back to village in the future.

2024-04-04 16:26:30 +0000 UTCThis isn't "crucial" and I don't know if anyone else cares, but if you're going to touch the placement mode anyways, it would be nice to have another axis for the item rotation. Guns standing up on the shelves look a big goofy, it'd be nice to have them lying down. This also applies to items like splints and torniquets that look really silly standing up. Also items are constantly falling through the attic carpet for me and many others.

2024-04-04 16:15:00 +0000 UTCThis is not a MP shooter against bots or other players. You dont run like crazy to avoid inc fire (although sometimes its necessary) but you should holster your weapon first. If you look how the character holds its weapon(s) while doing it in-game, it should become clear pretty fast that its next to impossible and uneffective to perform like that in real life.

2024-04-04 16:03:54 +0000 UTCI always found it hard to get ammo for my modified main weapon, because the trader did not sell as much ammo. Maybe implement a feature to unload the ammo of weapons so you could empty found weapons for ammo. Thanks for your effort :)

2024-04-04 15:58:15 +0000 UTCTo add on here, it would be nice for the tooltip to remember if I turn it on rather than have to activate it each time I open the inventory.
Kevin Kirkbride
2024-04-04 15:57:38 +0000 UTCAlso, maybe an "organize" hotkey for the inventory when things are really cluttered and out of order. But then again, encouraging player-drive organization isn't a bad idea, so maybe it's not needed after all!

2024-04-04 15:46:04 +0000 UTCMaybe doesn't have to be for next patch, but I think it would be very nice to have numerical input for FOV/Mouse Sensitivity alongside the sliders :)

2024-04-04 15:19:33 +0000 UTCI have Gsync enabled with vsync and max frame rate set to 162fps (Nvidia control panel), while in game unlimited fps (vsync disabled). - for some reason the frame rate cap does not work.

2024-04-04 14:56:16 +0000 UTCI commented on the last post about the demo - but here is a doc. A lot of this stuff isn't for the next patch, but some of it is - like holding left click to insert cartridges and maybe the dragging in inventory Here's my doc! https://docs.google.com/document/d/1FH9w4b1-Qy1yjkIbNvveExKsfa9L3jjupRrPgDmyjcU/edit?usp=sharing

2024-04-04 14:55:33 +0000 UTCI have Nvidia G-SYNC turned on and still experience some screen tearing when vsync is off. I still think vsync is overall a worse experience with the decrease in responsiveness you get from enabling it. I will test some more when I get home today, and see if there are some settings I could have missed.

2024-04-04 14:52:27 +0000 UTCat the moment you can sell stuff to the trader without choosing an item from him. but then you are just gifting it to him. there is no currency. so if you wanna sell stuff to get inventory space you always have to take an item. once you've had implemented those valuable cans maybe that would be at least a workaround. also some inventory things should be stackable. AND PLEASE: don't lower the running speed. I once tried to play Killing Floor but the movement speed was so slow that I nearly fell asleep

2024-04-04 14:32:45 +0000 UTCOnly HUD will be good, for me at least, it's difficult to read what bar it's what. So I slider or something in the menu to increase or decrease hud can be a cool addition for user experience
Hasky
2024-04-04 14:23:27 +0000 UTCI think running/sprinting speed should be slower. Atm its possible to cover most maps with low effort and rush from house to house while enemies posing next to no threat.
Rottmeister
2024-04-04 14:10:29 +0000 UTCPerhaps it's just me, but I believe a classic hover tooltip would be much more intuitive for new players. Especially since modern games like Baldur's Gate 3 utilize this approach.

2024-04-04 14:09:14 +0000 UTCAre you sure that you are running your monitor at full refresh rate since the Vsync lock directly at the monitor refresh rate and if it lock to 60 it means your monitor is running in 60hz, this is pretty bulletproof concept. I would double check that you have actually enabled that 144hz refresh rate in your Nvidia control panel etc. I would also check the "Manage 3D Settings" from that control panel since something if definitely a bit off if your vsync behaves like that. In that "Manage 3D Settings" it should have Vertical Sync - Use the 3D application setting ON. I would strongly suspect that you have either monitor running at 60hz or you have adaptive (Half refresh rate) or something turned on through Nvidia settings.

2024-04-04 14:06:09 +0000 UTCThe framerate and vsync option is a bit weird for me. I have a 144hz gsync monitor and the only way to avoid screen tearing is to use vsync, which locks to 60. If there was a way to use vsync but cap at 144, it would be nice.

2024-04-04 13:58:33 +0000 UTCThe tooltip is activated with T key at default and this is mentioned in the input settings and in the tutorial.

2024-04-04 13:57:40 +0000 UTCIt seems there might be a bug, as I don't see any tooltips in the inventory. I've tried hovering over items in the inventory and waiting for several seconds. I also attempted the same at the merchant.
Nikita
2024-04-04 13:56:35 +0000 UTCI think a simple pop up dialog asking to confirm your trade if it's far outside equal would prevent new players from giving all their stuff away. Some people think the "value" in the bottom right of your inventory is your money and think they can just buy and sell with currency.
Orion
2024-04-04 13:52:23 +0000 UTCThis is super fast to implement, even though the condition only affect the trading value currently. I will add this to the patch.

2024-04-04 13:50:16 +0000 UTCPerfect. I was asking the toggle lean and you will deliver it. Nice.
BlackVomit
2024-04-04 13:49:59 +0000 UTCThis might be something more for early access or future builds, but I think finding weapons across the maps should have random durability percentages, cause basically every weapon you find besides AI drops are 100% durability. It would make it seem more rewarding to find a fully durable weapon ππΌ

2024-04-04 13:48:22 +0000 UTCI would like the ability to perhaps stack spare ammo to make groups of 30; to reduce inventory clutter.

2024-04-04 13:43:23 +0000 UTCThis may be beyond the scope of Demo 2, but I feel like removing the backpack from the starting loadout would likely expand the progression a fair bit and make initial looting more interesting. As it stands, the inventory weight limit hardly matters as long as you know to equip the backpack at the start.

2024-04-04 13:42:52 +0000 UTCAre you referring the HUD stats or just everything?
Road to Vostok
2024-04-04 13:40:57 +0000 UTC3. Do you think that the tooltip which provides that individual item price is not enough? So you mean that in trading scenarios you would like to have small price attribute text to each item slot automatically?

2024-04-04 13:38:44 +0000 UTCFrom my perspective: 1. Explain that merchant is not βbuying β, but βtradingβ items. 2. Explain (briefly) how to save game in shelter, what is saved and when. 3. Show prices of individual items?
