How to play?

IMPORTANT!

Development builds uses same save file hierarchy as Public Demos. This means that you can load your existing save files, but you also override them through development builds.

General info

1. Development builds are not designed for public, do not share files or download links.

2. You can share, record and publish content from these development builds.

3. Feel free to leave comments and feedback in this post.

What's new?

- Task system
- Trader levels
- Trader tax (previously know as Profit margin)
- Extended save system (Trader file)

Nice to know (Tasks)

This task system is designed to be as dynamic as possible, so it can be extended in multiple ways. In the near future, tasks are going to be one of the main ways to unlock certain elements like, unique shelters, certain map areas / rooms and lore related items.

This development build includes 4 trader levels and each of those has certain number of tasks. These tasks are not "final tasks", meaning they are for testing purposes.

Once you unlock a new trader level, you get access to new tasks and trader tax decreases which gives you better priced bartering items from the trader supply.

All unlocked levels and completed tasks are saved dynamically.

You have to go back to the attic to save your progress. The game is designed to be a hardcore shooter where what is not in the attic is lost when you die. There is also a place where if you die you loose everything. There is a crate by the door and shelves in the room and a board to hang guns. I tend to stash a spare gun, put on any scope/silencer that will fit and have 30+ bullets spare, so I'm set up for a new explore after I die.

Works really well, the only real thing that bothered me was that if you complete a task, then quit to main menu outside of the attic, the task is still complete after you load your save. This makes it so that if you have to quit for some reason while you have a completed task, but haven't saved, you cannot redo that task and lose the reward. (edit) Also, maybe completed tasks could be archived in a "completed" section, like most games have.

I just did the first trade level. At first tried loading the previous save, but the trade button was grayed out. Started a new game. It was made easier since when the items on the level reload every-time I leave the attic and I've learned to keep going back to stash as much away as possible in case I die. This meant that I bought the coffee off the trader and gave it back to him. Then after I explored some more came back and found peaches on the ground in the trader room. Maybe the task items should appear further away from the trader. After I started the exchange the button for complete stood out less so perhaps when the items are filled it should change to be highlighted more than the other one. Maybe also separate boxes around give and receive to further distinguish them. Sometimes my brain glides over words and it looks me a couple of minutes to realize why trying to give jeans was giving me an error sound. I noticed on my jacket click to activate, after I put it on. Wasn't sure what that meant.

Right. I'm sure this has been explained more than once. I think it's not sticking in my memory because I'm used to games that either autosave or require you to go to a special place (like the attic) and then you can save. Also I'm very tired. I didn't get a chance to visit the tutorial to see if it's explained there too.

The dev build can load your normal save file.

From what I understand, the game saves your backpack and inventory when you return to the attic. If you die, you would lose everything in pack and inventory, but not your stash in the attic. Sounds right, at least for now, that the task remained completed before returning to the attic because its a completely separate save file and has a different save trigger, I.E. completing delivery.

understand. i got kinda worried bc i wanted t debunk this got everything inside godot and i got everything, to se if it really was the case. gona delete everything now. just wanted to let you know.

I am aware of this, you can reverse engineer and decompile almost every game with every engine if you really want that. I will start adding encryptions and stuff like that closer to the commercial release, for now it's kind of irrelevant at this stage.

Road to Vostok

and i senserly hopw you are aware that people now has access to the pck file and can completly get the project as you ahve it in godot as their own... just to let you now its possible.. would recomand to remove the pck file unless you want people to have access to absolutely everything

MrUlfen

it son the dev build but it happen when i frisrt entered the hideout after some looting and task completion hapend once actually so i was forced to quit the game

MrUlfen

I have never heard this bug before, is your Attic quite "normal" or does it have like thousands of items which could cause some issues?

Road to Vostok

everything works flawlesly exept i got infinite loading screen when entering hideout couple of times

MrUlfen

Only missing one battery until I have all items to complete every task. The tasks have really encouraged me to explore the maps more and I have found places/loot spots that I did not even know existed. Very much looking forward to the finished product :)

I had a change to play for about twenty minutes. Here are some things I noticed: - I think I don't understand the save system. I traded for a gun from the trader, then wandered around a bit and then went back to the main menu. I did not return to my shelter first though. When I loaded that save game, the gun I'd traded for was not in my inventory. However, all the items I'd traded for the gun were no longer in my inventory either. I lost both what I paid and what I bought! - I completed a task with the trader, then later died. I was presented with the option to "load game" on the menu, so I chose this. All my items were gone. However, next time I went to the trader, the task I'd completed before was still marked as completed. This seems odd to me Aside from this everything was great. The game continues to play smoothly, no glitches or crashes. I thought the task system was intuitive and it worked fine (I never completed enough tasks to get to the next level so I didn't not observe that working)

After an hour of testing i am missing a peache to complete the last lvl 1 task, no luck in area 5 xD I guess i have to explore vostok. For the first task (toilet paper) i trade it with the NPC and immediatly use it for the quest, it feel like i'm cheating a little. Now that i have a VSS, let's hunt for that damn peache ;)

Shamnolya

Let's go, let me break it! :D Testing now

That two same item for delivery was actually something that I didn't tested, thanks for notice I will check that out.

Road to Vostok

Just got it installed and made a copy of my save to be able to bring items/weapons in to be able to address some of these tasks faster. First thing I noticed is that when a task is complete, it stays visible. I feel it makes more screen noise and information I need to sift through. Two solutions could be, once complete, hide the task, or Reorganize the tasks so completed ones go to the bottom of the list. Second, if I accidently select two of the same item for delivery, two things happen. First, if I deselect one, it removes it from the delivery but leaves the second selected in my inventory. Second is that if the task requires one item (i.e. the third mission (Canned Goods)) you can select multiple and it will remove ALL selected items, even if it only required one. (Ill update this if I notice/accomplish any more feedback topics) I understand that this is just a dev build, but it was way too easy to go into the files and edit the trader file to hack the save file to unlock all the tasks. Do you plan on encrypting files or have a way to prevent editing values?
