Magazine System (Opinions)

Hi!

Just wanted to quickly get your general opinion related to magazine systems.

Basically this new UI overhaul, dynamic icons and item combining would allow me to implement a separated magazine system quite easily now.

Option 1 (Magazine System):
- Magazines are separated items and need to be attached to the weapon
- Using weapons would generally require more looting (finding mags)
- Loading magazines happens within inventory (combining ammo)
- Going into maps would need much more preparing (preparing mags)
- Similar approach to games like Tarkov

Option 2 (Ammo System):
- Magazines are always part of the weapons
- Reloading requires just compatible ammo
- Reloading works like in the current demo

There's multiple other aspects related to this topic (like animations) that I have consider, so this opinion thing doesn't affect my final decision whether I implement this now, later (after the early access) or stick with the old system, but just wanted to get your general opinions towards this.

Basically what I'm trying to find out is that how important feature you would consider this at this stage of the project for a game like RtV.

Comment Option 1 or Option 2 to this post and leave some additional thoughts if you have those :)

ps. Sorry there was accidentally some Twitch audio recorded to this clip at the same time from one of the Finnish streamers, so that has nothing to do with this system or me :)

Comment Option 1

Marshal Lindenberg

Option 1! It boosts immersion drastically.

Achilles

#1 and as I saw here having the option to switch if it's easy

Michael Gluz

Option 1 for sure

O. Jonasson

Option 1 on my behalf - magazine management plays a lot to the overall feel of the realistic/HC FPS aspects. Although this part of gameplay is likely to be "just" more inventory activity, taking the time and care to do it will reward the player who prepares well.

Karlo

oh yes, and this comment applies to reload as well as every time animation in the game - there should be a way to cancel animations. Why not eat half of that can of beans? Cancel a reload animation halfway through results in a partially loaded mag, etc.

Romeo.Echo4

You stated in your devlogs early on that you're going for the most realistic survial shooter on the market - doing a mag system is the obvious choice.

Romeo.Echo4

definite preference to option 1 no question. It's more immersive. Magazines could also have durability with low durability having higher propensity for misfeed of cartridge. Also opens up potential crafting ideas like crafting recipies to make custom hot swap magazines using duct tape and 2 mags for a faster reload time. Also additional gear options with extended mags and drum mags.

Romeo.Echo4

Option 1 for me

Skidjit

I agree with most comments that I prefer Option 1. In the future though it would be nice to toggle between Option 1 and 2 for those who would prefer to play with a more relaxed experience. It might also increase the accessibility of the game to more people who don't play tactical shooters as much which would get the game more publicity and popularity.

Titan

I much prefer option 1, whenever I play anomaly nowadays mags redux is one of the first mods I install.

Sam Hardwater

Option 1, more realism

Option 1. For this kind of survival game it's essential for early access launch.

Juho-Matti Vähäjylkkä

Option 1

Patrick Millin

Option 1 please!!!

JessF

Yeah, option 1 and I second Avery's ask of being able to to close the inventory screen while packing.

J

Option 1 please.

themaninblack34

Option 1 - definitly i would love to see other game that isnt tarkov it does this

Jtk17

Option 1. Will stop the reload after every shot

Mike D

Option 1, Please.

BluFalconActual

option 1

Option 1

Krycek

Prefer option 1 but would love if you could close the inventory screen while packing magazines so you can see your surroundings and cancel it if necessary

Avery Uslaner

I love the option to fill mags and them be separate. Makes you think more about how to fill your inventory.

Maff Cornwell

Option 1 for me!!! I love the added layer of immersion and realism.

ENJOIgta3

Option 1 - more realistic, more hardcore :) And i can play like this: my rig has 6 magpouches so i only take 6 mags with me. So my inventory and my loadout are coordinated with each other

happydixiklo

Like the guys said - option 1!

upcdave

Option 1 definitely Was also wondering if we are getting a mag check like Tarkov?

John Doe

Option 1. Feels more realistic and I love it in Tarkov. I also played Stalker 2 and still prefer Tarkov‘s system.

CrystalJoe

Option 1 definitely I don't consider it essential for the current demo version, but it's a feature I really enjoyed in EfT or even more in Stalker EFP so I would totally welcome this feature at any time.

Feruen

option 1 all the way!

Fonzi

Option 1. It matches the complexity of the game more than "magic" mags.

Orbbbb

Option 1

SchranzCesco

I would like to see a system involving option 1. I feel as though it definitely adds a level of immersion and tactical gameplay.

maslow

My pick would be option 1, definitely. I've played a lot of Tarkov that uses option 1 and I've found I quite like it. However, my other favorite game series in this genre, STALKER, uses option 2 and is completely viable. (Upgrading the weapon can upgrade the magazine size, etc.) That being said, I wouldn't be offended to see a method to change between the two options (between saves, of course.) Maybe similar to the winter mode you mentioned today too? Obviously understand if that's not the intended goal of asking here, but I play a lot of super customizable games as well, and that's something I've always enjoyed about them. (Could even have the patches apply to the "difficulty" you're on. Similar to something like Tales of Majeyal, which has achievements for every difficulty and game type. A bit overkill for this, but just trying to provide some more feedback on making a toggle viable.)

LarryThreezor

I'd go with Option 1 Especially if you plan do implement different mag sizes with different capacity and effect on weapon handling

Phil

Definitely option 1 It would just add more difficulty, immersion, and realism.

Nolan Facer

Option 1 please! however: when rolling this out, please either ensure that traders keep magazines in stock (perhaps make sure that whenever they have ammo to trade, they also have the magazines for those calibers?) or alternately give us a system for crafting magazines.

Steve Huff

Option 1

JormanDelli

Option 1 for sure. Additionally, consider the customization options for players/modders when you also consider ammo types (i.e. first three or last five rounds in a 30rd mag being tracer)

Jonas R

Option 1 FTW -- immersion, difficulty, and an extra cognitive load/overhead for making risk-reward decisions. Logistics matter!

ea

Definitely Option 1: - weapons with a mag attached being more common loot - weapons without a mag being less common loot - mags having a condition percentage separate from the weapon - trader product range including mags - bots loot tables containing spare mags of his weapon type

Olli Ruohomäki

Option 1 - More immersion, closer to real world, need to put more thought into preparation. Gives the option for different magazine sizes in the future maybe.

Xyver

Option 1 - and keep up the awesome work you're doing!

Gazza.NZ

I agree with the majority here, Option 1. As Kenneth Soerensen stated though, you could polish option 1 to the exact feel you’re going for but use option 2 for now. At the pace you work at, polishing option 1 would only take 1 day lol

securityCase

Definitely option 1

mns1188

Option 1

Kevin Kirkbride

Option 1: I would love this as it give more immersion and an extra depth to the weapon system/mechanic of the game. But this is as you say more work potential with magazine animation and so forth. This could also be a feature for the future, and use option 2 until then. The option 1 is one of the things I like with Tarkov as I need to plan a bit more. And find cover to reload the magazines. That is some of the reasoning behind why I would also love to see it in “Road to Vostok”. But at the end of the day it is important that you do what you think will bring the tone and feeling of the game you want to make. I will support you anyway. 😃

Kenneth Soerensen

Option 1. But we'd need more space in the inventory. With mags + the tetris system, I feel like a limited inventory that doesn't change depending on backpacks or rigs is always going to be full very quickly compared to the current demo Also I instantly recognised the trading UI sound from Tarkov xD

BomberDX

Option 1 for me as well.

Tobias August Williams

I prefer the option 1, it make shooting and ammo managing better

Shamnolya

Id say option 1 as its more immersive and feels like I am actually ,,manipulating" the weapon.

Rottmeister

I think it's clear you'll need to go for Option 1 at some point, but I think considering how well the early access has been going so far, it wouldn't make or break the project at this point if you waited to build that system out. It would primarily depend on what other big ticket items still need to be finished and whether it would be worth doing those first or not.

nosyke

Option 1. In my opinion, advanced reload mechanics such as the one you've mentioned in "option 1" will be an advantage for creating a more immersive survival experience in a harsh and dangerous environment

Kacper Kołodziejek

Option 1. After playing Stalker Gamma for so long i can't play without the mag redux mod. It adds so much more immersion and another layer to planning out your mission.

Quinn Smith

ps. Sorry there accidentally was some Twitch audio recorded to this clip at the same time from one of the Finnish streamers, so that has nothing to do with this system or me :)

Road to Vostok

Option 1🤌🏻 that would be the perfect experience for me. The whole prepairing with filling the mags is pretty satisfying. Maybe both options to choose from would be an idea if this is not to complicated. I loved that in the Stalker G.A.M.M.A Mod.

Cap.C

Since you have decided to go for a realistic approach, I think option 1 would fit the game perfectly in my opinion

Infinity

opinion 1 Because magazines' are gonna give more tention in middle of the fights. + Are you planning to add bullet insert animation like dayz or scum?

Chae moo

Option 1. Almost needed for a realistic feel.

SavRoyale

Option 1. Feels more immersive to me, and I've enjoyed this feature in just about every shooter I've played. Would fit the game's overall vibe better too imho.
