2025-02-23 22:51:50 +0000 UTCThe old man in Jinshi's dream was the previous Emperor he died 5 years before the start of the story (by now it's probably been 6 years), which is why the current emperor is now the emperor. As for the really aggressive look of the one Jinshi called his mother, the current Empress Dowager, just a little reminder, last season it was mentioned that the previous Emperor "liked them young". You know with Lishu becoming his concubine at 9 years old, and the current Empress Dowager having given birth to the current emperor at an age so young that it visibly shocked and disgusted Maomao. So it might not be just the "mother in law" thing.

2025-02-22 17:22:50 +0000 UTC- I love these little bottle episodes with one location, a small group of characters, and one obvious puzzle that they must solve! - The emperor was absolute 🔥 this episode!! - And oof, this line hit me SO HARD in today's world of gossip and hearsay with people shouting and repeating anecdotes, misinformation, and disinformation to drown out the truth while not bothering to listen to or look for primary sources: When nobody with first-hand knowledge remains, the story becomes the truth.

2025-02-22 17:11:35 +0000 UTCSo in Jinshi's dream the old man was the previous emperor (i.e. the father of the current emperor), the old woman was the mother of the previous emperor (i.e. the grandmother of the current emperor). Currently, everyone thinks Jinshi is the current emperor's younger brother (including Jinshi), however, last season Maomao posited there was a baby switch and Jinshi is actually the current emperor's son. If there was a switch we have not been given enough info as to who actually knows Jinshi's true itentity, but someone found out because that was the reason Luomen was ousted from the rear palace. Young Jinshi thought his "brother" was his father since their mother was so young and there was such a large gap in the ages between Jinshi and his "brother". He was later corrected and told the old man (previous emperor) was his father. There have been hints dropped that the previous emperor was a weak one and his mother (the old woman) was really the one ruling the nation...that is why she seems to be in control of a cowering emperor in the dream.
