A scythe not made into a war scythe is mostly a pulling weapon and a piercing one it's not as well designed as a war pick but it's definitely function like one in a pinch while the blade portion you have to pull towards yourself to do damage instead of hitting away from yourself like most weapons which means catching behind the enemy. If they sharpened the outer edge of the scythe or it was already sharp that mitigates it somewhat because you can still strike outward with the back of the blade.
